No not used it before only thought of it very recently. Just got to thinking why not try something natural and see how it goes. Since then I have found there are people on Google who have done similar with natural products to make all sorts of colours. Icing on the cake is I've now finished it for the time being and for me it plays and sounds spot on. I think I struck lucky 😀

That's the beastie. Looks good to me at that money.

Welcome to BC where there is lots of info about how great noise now comes out of little packages
-
Welcome home. Pull up a chair and start writing banter 😀

Thank you so much that clears up my question about them and the query about them getting shipped from China. All the fraction of the real price strings have to be fake. I did wonder when I first saw them why the Nano coating appeared to be invisible. Your answer explains a great deal.😀

I bought some Elixir strings several years ago now from wish. They cost about £11.50 a set. I have to admit I had never heard of them so gave them a try anyway. First opening of the packet they felt like fret saw blades and very stiff as well. Never put them on anything after giving them a quick try on a bass. Openened another packet recently same batch and they feel different to how I remember the first packet. Still feel vey stiff. Bottom line. I don't like them. I use Daddario's for all but my Fretless basses. I believe Elixir are a brand of a USA company. Do they claim to make them in the USA or are they just taking the cheap manufacturing route and having them made in China? It stands to reason you would not make strings in the USA and ship them to China to then sell them and ship them back across the face of the earth to the USA and Europe. So if they are Made in China it might come as no surprise if some large quantities are finding their way out of the back door and into the marketplace. I assume the factory makes other brands as well so the lesser brands might also find themselves packed in Elixir boxes. Either way I still don't like them. For me what I have seen of them has given them a bad rap. Just to qualify that. I have a friend who uses nothing else. He pays top money for them and gigs regularly in North London. I fail to see how they make his bass sound any better than anything else he used before. Fakes destroy collectibles! Just my feelings about them.

Welcome I am a fellow returned to playing time outer but not from shift work. Children, divorce, industrial injury. Glad you have found getting back into it such a positive thing. Look forward to hearing how it goes and more.

Strangely enough the Mike Brooks bass collection video linked in the "do you know how many basses you own" question shows an Ibinez that he owns that looks just like what your photo shows and it has no pickup. He says it's great and they are relatively cheap to buy. It is a semi hollow by the way so might not be what you are aiming for.
-
Did you want semi hollow like that one or solid body? PIezo bridges and kits are available with the required controls. I am thinking you will need some routing done to accommodate the battery etc most likely from the back
-
I'll get one out and put a photo on if I find time. Got a busy day today and guitarist friend coming round for a jam this evening.

The design of my Kala bridges are the black plastic ones with the piezo molded into the bottom of the plastic in one piece. Don't favour trying to cut one of those in half so I will investigate what I can do with the other methods. I might make up a jig and very gently run a router along the slot to make sure its level. Or maybe hand scrape it flat. I have hand scraped lathe beds in the past so I can't be that inaccurate. Amazing how you remember forgotten skills in your later years.🤔

Stunning and it looks so fast! Like sports car or Aero influences. Ready to fly

Just got the SB900 out to measure for you. Neck is 270 mm from 12th fret to centre of pickup Bridge is 375 mm Puts the neck pickup rather close to the 24th fret. This one came to me with what I was told was the factory fitted optional USA made Kahler whammy. Unfortunately I have no bar for it which may be a good thing. I know it's scruffy but I still love it.
-
Just had the thought if you are building this as a project how about considering the movable sliding pickup idea that was used years ago? I can't remember the maker was it a Dan Armstrong? Maybe some kind of mini rails built into it with a cam locking mechanism to set the locations as required. Just exploring ideas.
-
Thanks for this info. Does it deal with the latency so you can realy jam without being out of sync with each other.
-
I would go 295mm from the 12th fret which is the neck position of my G&L 2000 Legacy, Westone Spectrum and Thunder 3 but I like neck pickup sound over bridge position anyway so for you it might be pants. I would coil tap the pickup as if the option is there why not take advantage of it? You paid for it might as well use it. I like the idea of the rotary tone selection. Kind of like the Aria SB 900. Speaking of Arias getting hold of the measurement of the single pickup Aria SB1000, 600 etc might help you. They sound awesome. Can't tell you what they measure as I only have the twin pickup SB900. Someone on here will have some. Hope that helps.

Have you been listening to Brothers in Arms by any chance? 🤣
-
The fact that they were too lazy to rub down the sanding sealer so it didn't accept the stain Oh and apparently they burn well 🤣
-
This yes all those issues and more. If they can't give God their best then why are they there? It is not about them it is about Yahosha/Yashuah. If you stayed you would be condoning what they are doing which is serving self not our Father in heaven.
-
They look wonderful! Just the job. Reminded me I use these in place of wood screws for cover plates and battery covers that need regular removal.
-
I love mutiscale basses but I don't plan a different approach to playing them. I just play them. Maybe you are overthinking it. I only move my plucking hand back and forth if I want a harder sound or softer bridge or even fretboard sound but I don't plan it or think about it. I just let my ears judge and let it happen. By the time I would have thought about it the momment is gone.

Some types of hardwood can be cut with a normal metal working tap. Alternative ideas are a captive nut put in with epoxy parallel to the shaft. A plain shaft cross drilled for a roll pin with blanking either one side or both (bit permanent that one) Thread the shaft and cut an internal thread or press in a captive nut from the bottom (epoxy the nut or superglue it as well if necessary) Food for thought

They are lovely and such a good match to the original body colour also making them like buttons adds class rather than going oh look filled in holes. They make the plastic controls look out of place. Matching control knobs would be the icing on that cake. 🤗

What has a professional bassist got, that I have not
