  1. But of an update. Been some delays so far. The original side dot markers were centred between the fret lines. That doesn't work for me so I drilled them out and filled them with drops of superglue and nice dark dust made from of all things the bark waney edge from a bit of American black walnut patted in with the finger tip and then gone over a second time. Not perfect but OK for what I wanted and to be honest all done in just over 1 to 1.5 hours. Dot markers are plastic things commonly available online. Only used one piece of each. S/glue cut of with chiesel then clean with chiesel and a rub with 1500 wet and dry. Next l found the bridge had been fitted 1/2 inch out giving a 33 1/2 inch scale length so this morning I moved it and while I was at it drilled out and counter sunk two more holes to make the 5 as it only came with 3 when I bought the bass home. Being a bit fussy about that as I thought 3 wasn't enough. New Scratch plate is now fitted and as I found a dodgy volume pot I am replacing all three. Similar thread and depth but full size bodies. They should be arriveing today.
  2. Paprika will give a dark orange to reddish stain.
  3. Sometimes it's what we have to do. I have also walked away from my playing every week gospel church. Straight into a Vineyard church much closer to home with far less time demands and a healthier atmosphere. Maybe you just need some time and another door wil open when it's right. Thanks for sharing God bless.
  4. I worked for a courier company that used DHL for overseas shipping 30 years ago. They were always trouble laden and in my view have always been the bottom if the pile as far as courier companies go. Just so unprofessional. I find DPD to be always very effective.
  5. Done and dusted report non delivery to PayPal
  6. For me it would be the only one I own. The 2006 USA Highway one I bought recently. But it is unlikely to be my #1 as there are lots here to choose from.
  7. That is the point I failed to make. It isn't necessarily better quality because it is marketed as Luthier tools. They just market what works for them as a retail outlet. Doesn't make it any better just because they buy the same stuff yet specifically say "luthier tools". At one time in the distant past, not long ago that term didn't exist. Now it equals a path to increased prices. Does that mean the quality is better? As an ex engineer you know is doesn't.
  8. Bah Humbug. Some of us can rock with the best. Not that they cant rock either. They just only know blues scales lol Money money money. Its all lies. Or is it. My next door neighbor of years ago as a pro went to meet Mr Epstiene for a place in a new band (he was already established at the time) BOTTOM Line " I like you lets go to bed and we will sign contacts in the morning! Get it! got it! good!
  9. I might be wrong but I think Victor Wooten said "No one ever danced to a scale" We are there to support and make a groove. I have been known to get to an event and get asked we have no bass can you play, Go home grab my rig and bass and go back to set up within 5 minutes as they had started to play. They loved it. So did I! Pressure brings out the best in you or the worst. I have been asked what other (professional) bands do I play with? I have been told by a fantastic singer from a choral society. "I don't usually say anything but thank you for tonight's playing, most professional" I am not pro by any means can't read dots or tab.I have a good ear and timing/rhythm but the get in do the job get out is a way I have always used. I set up fast then help others. Break down fast then help others. Then get out fast. I am there to make music not wet knickers lol
  10. Years ago we bought a set of round needle files and they were usually up to what you needed.(other shapes as well) Now it has to be labelled luthier tools and of course cost much more. A good Japan maker C L tools, Hilka Or Bacho Sweden I recently bought some hex wrenches on Amazon for a Fender bridge. I bought a whole set to make sure I got the right size 1.5 turned out to be more like 1.25 others were equally totally miles away from size USELESS! Sent back as you do. Took an oversize one and ground it down myself. Perfect! What I am saying is don't jump in, look around. I see so much stuff that I can see is coming out of the same cheap factories in China under different brand names and also imported and sold as OURS. Try to buy nut files you get offered bits of wire with barbs on, crap! You want respectable needle files. You can't expect to look after a fair quality instrument with jamboree bag tools. As Paul_5 said above buy them right buy them once Rant over Sorry forgot the fret leveling tool Good quality oil or water stone which will be level, then fret crowning file. Small areas Diamond sharpening card D3F fine 25 micron. DMT www. dmtsharp.com Made in USA. Does the fret ends as well
  11. Welcome Jon, Stay safe, keep warm. One door closes and another opens. Great that you found others to play with even at work.
  12. Most of the side markers I see on instruments here seem to be at the 2mm point. I looked for paint earlier and didn't see anything to impress me so am reverting to plan A which is white and black plastic markers I already bought. Issue I have is side dot markers put it between the fret lines on a fretless? I am used to them being on the fret lines in two different colours which is what my Westone Spectrum has in white and red. If I leave the ones between the lines on the one I am working on I will get confused. I know I will.🤣
  13. That has just reminded me we used two buy fine brass tube from the model making shop and put that in as side markers then a drop of liminous paint down the centre. Works a treat. Bugger that has spoiled my plans to use the 2mm plastic rods I got from Amazon
  14. Like the neck grain and the scratch plate never been peeled off yet. Looking forward to seeing this
  15. Welcome to the forum. Hint turn that Eden 500w up and tickle the strings you won't need to pound them to be heard. Surgical spirit on the fingertips will help harden them off as will the woodworking mods you are going to get involved with. I gather you don't use flat wound strings. Great to have you here, have fun and buy a packet of salt, you will need a pinch every now and then for some of the comments made on here 😀
  16. Is there as bobbin sander at the maker space? They are very popular for body shaping (the fine detail)
  17. (so much so I am almost too terrified to use them lol!) That is a good place to be. It is complacency or lack of concentration when they bite you. Didn't know of your back. Will pray it gets better🤗
  18. Looks filled in and badly at that. Maybe carefully clean the muck out and buy new inlays then fit them if you are serious about restoration. A baby router or router attachment with a Dremel will help you. If you have to fill around them make up a paste using sanding dust of real timber of the same type/colour with a clear dying wood glue or epoxy. Trick I learned on a personal tour of the Patrick Eggle factory longer than I care to remember ago.
  19. fretmeister knows more than google and he isn't trying to sell you anything 🤣
  20. Do you have a link to a genuine item I could do with a easier to use one
  21. I have had Antex but for some reason now find myself using a Hilka 100w instant heat one. A bit clumsy for tight spaces but it does the job if you are careful. Probably too much for circuit boards though, not pointy enough
  22. Gordon Smith Graduate guitars used to have. 2 x Volume with push pull coil tap 1 for each pickup 2 x Tone 1 for each pickup 1 x three way switch neck-both-bridge Kind of like a Les Paul but with coil taps using all four wires to choose hum bucking or single coil for each pickup That combo of switching might do what you want (not sure I have my head around it) using the 5 holes without risking ends getting broken off switches as happens sometimes.
  23. Yes for sure. Never look up to answer someones question when using any of them. It drove me crazy how many people would throw away the push sticks I used to regularly make in the work place. Like they think its not manly to use them Ah we forgot bandsaws!
