I’m glad you found the fault , it’s best to be familiar with an amp when you gig with it , I know sometimes that’s simply not possible. My experience with Darkglass so far has been very positive.

This Trace Elliot ELF never ceases to amaze me!!!!
msb replied to Mike Bungo's topic in Amps and Cabs
The fan in my MB200 went , and I started getting “ the pink ring of doom”. My repair guy discovered that the fan had become gunked up and stopped working , and that caused some major components to overheat and burn out. Including the power module. So I looked around at other amps , and then decided that the GK was the perfect amp for what I was using it for. Strictly home practice , sometimes plugged into a C2 Phil Jones cab , or with just headphones and a tablet plugged into the aux in. So I looked at amps that could handle both headphones and an aux input. I decided that if we couldn’t resuscitate the little GK I’d buy another. It survived the repair , and has run like a top since we got it fixed. Should add that the e500 has replaced it as the primary practice head , and I use a Hotone Thunderbass as a headphone/tablet quiet practice rig. So the feature set I was originally looking at has shifted a little. Almost bought a Darkglass Microtubes recently … moment of weakness , it was a great deal but in the end I decided I’m already well amped. And if I see an Elf for a good price I’m liable to snag it , simply because it has a great rep. edit I’m also curious about the new Ampeg line … and sometimes think I really should have a Mesa Subway head … it never ends. There’s always something. -

I’m pretty much amped up , but everything I’ve heard from people that use the Elf suggest that it would be a good amp to have. -
That’s the ticket right there. Welcome.

Both of my Rics have the old style spring rods. You have to position the neck before attempting to tighten them , but they’re incredibly stable. In well over 25 years I’ve only had to touch them twice. My Fenders require seasonal adjustments. I haven’t had my 4000 as long , but I haven’t touched it after initially setting it up. Adjusting two rods instead of one isn’t exactly rocket science. It’s not that difficult to figure out. If you can adjust one , it’s easy to do two. The old bridge is a pain , but once set you can forget about it. Rics are built differently , and they feel different from other basses. I do love a nice Ric. They might be making some of their best basses today (but I do love the older necks).

That is one funky little bass.

Picked up an e500 to just use at home and love to plug in a tablet and spin the knobs. Almost picked up a MicroTube V1 recently.

One of these days I’ll pick one up. I really haven’t found any complaints. -
I played French horn very badly in a High School band. I was once a Fender guy , but now tend to use short scale basses. And generally ones that have a different shape.

Welcome! Sounds like you’re all over the map.

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!

I have the 34 in reissue , but mostly play short scales. So I would instantly pick up a short scale Samurai. -
One of these days I’ll fire up a stereo rig.

How do you find the Sisma compared to Class D heads?

One of the first batch of Tributes G&L had done in Korea, an L2500.

A couple of five string basses. … was not able to bond with them. Still have one I should sell.

I love those later 4001 basses with the one inch spacing! … the earlier features too. They fetch silly money these days. The necks on those last 4001 basses are comfortable , when they introduced the improved 4003 the necks became significantly thicker. I’m mostly using short scale basses now , and have two older Rics. Still get a little weak in the knees when I look at them , and when I pick one up they feel like home.

The beauty of Baxandall eq!

Welcome!

Welcome ! I do love a nice Ric! And those later 4001 basses are lovely things. Is the . 0047 cap still engaged? Much of that prog clank is in that capacitor. I wanted mine to be more thumpy so I bypassed it. But if are looking for that classic prog sound …

Welcome! As an amp nerd I’d say this is a wonderful time to be looking at amps.

Welcome. I’m the first to say it’s not the gear , it’s your touch. And I seem to be constantly finding something else to invest in. So maybe it’s a bit of both.

How was Your rehearsal last morning or night ?
msb replied to nilorius's topic in General Discussion
New drummer is great, and comes prepared for rehearsal. We postponed the first gig with him until December. We had a great rehearsal last night. Both trumpet players were there! Band is sounding really good. And the other 2Young 2Old will do the first gig with the new guitar player nine two weeks. I just got the set lists today , there will not be rehearsal , we’re simply expected to know the material. I’ll be camped out with the headphones this weekend. -
Why is it that some drummers have no concept of dynamics?

Just got this “ he kind of fell off the map, moved his business but things obviously didnt work out. No one in our little bass community has heard from Tommy for long time.” Still waiting to hear from Jan.
