  1. I know Jan used them at one point , but he’s away on the motorbike , I’ll ask when he’s back in Stockholm. edit … my other friend there simply said he stopped making them some years ago. I’ve asked if he knows anything more
  2. I’ve asked a couple of friends in Stockholm if they know what happened , however one is off on vacation biking around Eastern Europe.
  3. That TKS cab looks quite interesting. Never heard of the company. I gather they make serious cabs.
  4. Our old drummer is actually one of the better bass players in this region , and he snagged a gig he could not turn down. So we went looking for a new drummer. This is a project doing Mexican music. So the material is not the standard stuff. Beautiful material. You’ll never have a great band unless you have a great drummer. Did some auditions and one guy was it. Thankfully he signed up and we’re getting back up to speed. We have a December gig so there’s lots of time , we have a bunch of new material to add as well so I’m looking forward to the upcoming rehearsals. And in another project we do , one guitar player has returned to Boston to finish the degree at Berklee. We’ve got a replacement and he should be the perfect fit. We’ll simply get a list of tunes to learn and then have at’em. Next gig is mid next month. The rhythm section has been in the house band at the local blue dive’s Sunday jam for the last twenty years. And some young ones asked us to do the gig , we have a good number down now. It’s called 2Young 2Old and it’s the perfect name. So no full rehearsal but we’re expected to know the material , and be ready for anything. Should be fun.
  5. I once walked into a local pawnshop and there was an odd Gibson hanging over the cash register. The guitar looked Japanese , the logo was close , but not quite right. So I asked the owner what it was and he said. “A lesson , and it’s not for sale”
  6. I saw this Hotone on kijiji for a good price and picked it up. It was just an impulse. I had no idea I would wind up using it as a headphone amp with my IPad. It does that well.
  7. I like cheap vintage short scale basses. I often use a UniVox for gigs these days. Don’t quite understand how that happened but I’m ok with it However I do use great amps and cabs. amp nerd
  8. Leo was a repair man and made things so they could be easily adjusted and fixed. This is evident in his amp design , and right down to his bridges. A masterpiece of form and function. He did not do fancy binding , carved tops , or elaborate inlays , but I would not say his work was inferior. His slab body , bolt on neck aesthetic was functional. There was a practical reason behind every design decision. I see genius in his simplicity.
  9. I’ve never seen one , and from the sounds of this , that’s a good thing.
  10. The LP DC Jr is said to be out of production , but is still on the website. It’s similar to this , and a fraction of the price. Gibson has been doing pricey limited custom runs for quite a while , most have been guitars , but I suppose it’s nice for them to acknowledge the bass section. These will probably quickly sell out, and the new owners will undoubtably be very happy with them. Well beyond my snack bracket. And I’m someone that loves Gibson short scale basses.
  11. My Visa card was recently hacked after buying something on Amazon. Visa contacted me , so I phoned the contact number on the back of my card. My card was immediately cancelled. There were a number of fraudulent charges from several countries. And it happened quickly. This after several years of hassle free transactions.
  12. And Rickenbacker were making a lovely electric upright around that time too.
  13. When I started playing in blues bands about forty five odd years ago I gave up any dreams of rock stardom. I thought success would simply wind up playing in local bars with some really nice players. I did not want travel. So I found success but wealth and stardom were not to happen. And I’m perfectly ok with the way things have turned out.
  14. Welcome! There seems to be a couple of just about everything here , and I do say that in a good way. I think most anybody can easily settle in and get comfy. I’ve been fascinated by gear that’s commonplace in Europe and the UK but has little presence in North America. So it’s wonderful to have some insight into other’s experience. I’ve found this site to be wonderful resource.
  15. More often than not tuners can easily be cleaned and lubed , unless you’re looking for lightweight tuners the ones you have might well be fine.
  16. I seem to buy a bass every other year or so , I have twenty something , there’s really only a couple I’d sell right now. I’m more likely to buy an amp (self confessed amp nerd) but I’m well amped too. Almost bought a Darkglass Microtubes 500 last week. Was a good price , and it’s an amp I like. … close call. So I’m relatively gas free , but if I see something for a good price I can be tempted.
  17. There’s something to be said for having very different basses.
  18. Some say Ernie Ball make the finest production instruments in the US. I have some old friends that went a little nutty after buying Bongos. So be careful …
  19. I believe in Jule’s work. I have a Monique birdcage.
  20. I first saw my Korina Flying V when I was looking at an old Rickenbacker 4000 , played the V for a couple of minutes and instantly had the big grin. Bought the Ric , and totally depleted my discretionary funds I had at the time. And about a month later phoned the seller to see what had happened to the V , miraculously it was still there , and had not sold… and so I snagged it. I play mostly in blues and roots environments , but not heavy blues rock , so I was curious as to what the reaction might be. As it turned out most felt it was cool as hell. Some may find the sight of an old geezer in jeans and high tops playing a Flying V pathetic , I’m totally ok with that , and don’t really give a #*%!. I love the cheesy thing. Enjoy!
  21. I’ve been using a tube preamp , and it sits nicely between the preamp and the main amp. I’ve found the difference to be slight , but for the time being am going to continue using it. Many Class D amps have built in high pass filters , some are adjustable , some are not.
