After reading a lot of very positive comments on the Elf I’m thinking of finding one that’s lightly used. They do pop up on TB from time to time and despite the exchange shipping and duties sometimes one can find things that are simply not around locally. In the past I’ve bought quite a number of things from classifieds in the US and everything has gone well. I don’t need another amp. But I’m a little nerdy about them.

The closest I’d have is a well worn 72 Pbass. That was my first real bass though so it would be one of the last ones I’d sell. For many years my only bass , it was mint when I first got it , and looks like it went through the Boer War now … still plays like a dream.

I do have a tiny practice rig , a PhilJones C2 cab with a Darkglass e500.

My mini rig for gigs. I also have a 210 Berg cab if I need more but this will cover most situations . Bergantino HDN112 with a Forte amp and a Monique preamp for warmth. I use the effect return input and bypass the tone stack on the Forte.

Geezer here. 2 Young 2 Old will be at it again this weekend. This time we’re doing a rehearsal to add some more adventurous things on the set list.

How does it sound? Is the neck acrylic too , how did the truss rod deal with it? Are you planning further mods? How is the fretwork?

Unfortunately Thomann do not have the profile in North America that they do in Europe.

Those small tuners can be a misery if you don’t have the exact length of string. Some flats will break if they are wound too tight. It will start with separations in the wrap … and then the big “pop”. Is this an older bass ? It seems most modern short scale basses have a larger post.

I was asking some things about the SWR Headlite once on TB and there was a mini reunion of SWR and GenzBenz alumni that were all working for Fender at that time on the thread. (Some of them poking fun of the guy that designed the HeadLite) sometimes TB delivers

There’s a lot of European amps that have little presence here , the main reason I initially signed up here was to get a better handle on some of that stuff. I’m kinda nerdy about amps , but I do tend to hang on to them. Here it’s mostly Mesa , GK , Markbass , Fender, Ampeg , Traynor. I need to add the little Aguilar to the pic.

I usually leave the back up in it’s case. Untouched. And usually gig with fairly inexpensive basses , but through a nice amp.

My approach was always to buy another and keep both , because there were going to be times I wanted to use what I liked about the first one. I like different amps.

I rarely bring a stand. guilty but most basses seem to be pretty tough units

I often use a thumb and finger approach like you would fingerpicking a guitar , I get a little nail in there doing that and it sounds more like I’m using a pick. I started doing that after goofing around on a Bass VI and now do it a fair bit on regular basses. I’ve seen videos of some funk players using the technique after I was doing it. … it works. edit the quick video

It’s nice to see Fender licensed product at an affordable price point. The upper level Epiphones can be very good too. I know of some Tbird enthusiasts that say the Epi Pro bird surpasses the current Gibson bird. All good.

I bought a Jazz V , and then a L2500 Tribute and sold the Jazz , but I never really got along with the B string. Still have the Trib , but I simply prefer short scale four string basses , they work better for me , despite the more frequent position changes.

Some short scales have much smaller string posts on the tuners and that can be an issue with longer scale strings. Especially with flat wound strings. And short scale basses with a trapeze style bridge will often need a medium scale string. I just find it simpler to get a string that’s designed for the bass in question.
