I like little short scales where the bridge is close to the body edge , but have several that are quite set in. They don’t have the same short feel , despite still being short scale basses.
-
The bridge is set considerably in from the edge so it won’t really feel like a short scale. It looks like a winner.

Jule Amps Simone All Tube Preamp/DI - *SOLD*
msb replied to The Bucket's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
With a house it never ends. I’ve paid off my mortgage , but there was also windows and doors , (we bought an older home) and a steep roof to shingle , and the endless trips to the hardware store with every seasonal change. Patio furniture and spending a fortune in the garden. It never ends , but home ownership is a wonderful thing. Congratulations GR7G5TER ! I’m looking at a new shed now … -
Downsizing, juxtapositioned with value of big old gear.

I have a little GKMB200 that developed the pink ring of doom , but a qualified repair friend had no problems fixing it. Not all Class D amps are disposable. (the fan had become gunked up and things heated up) (yes the fan was repaired too) Also have an older GenzBenz Streamliner. The LED light was out but was working fine otherwise. When I heard agedhorse was maintaining them I sent it off to him. And it’s like a brand new amp. Well worth investing in. I do have an older SWR HeadLite that may prove difficult to fix , but it still runs perfectly … but some parts might become difficult to source. -
I find metronomes and click tracks to be highly over rated. Never found one that could keep up with me.

Welcome. For some years I just had one bass. I thought it was all I could need. I was terribly wrong.

Jule Amps Simone All Tube Preamp/DI - *SOLD*
msb replied to The Bucket's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
I was looking at them for several years before one finally came my way. I found one in the US and found the exchange to the Cdn dollar brutal , and then taxes. So it wound up being considerably more than I initially expected. But I got it. And it lived up to the reviews I had been reading. As I said , I’m now a believer. I’ve only seen one other come up for sale since. So I’m glad I made the purchase. It was funny , I mentioned in a TalkBass forum that a Monique was on the way to Nova Scotia, and received an email from Jule himself. He thought he might have misplaced an order , I told him I had purchased a slightly used Monique , and he told me I could have kept him going for several days … -

Both amp and cab design have come a long way. I used to haul a fridge around. Today I use modern , modular , lightweight gear. And have never sounded better. Now I’m nerdy about amps and cabs but simply don’t have the space to store extra stuff. And I’m not about to begin renting storage space for gear I’m not using. -
The designer of the Streamliner created the Subway amps for Mesa. They are highly regarded.

Jule Amps Simone All Tube Preamp/DI - *SOLD*

Jule’s creations are pricey , but are beautiful things. Simone was designed to give one the richness of a tube amp and yet be small enough to be carried in a backpack. He mentioned that it was ideal for someone that relied on public transit to get to a gig. He also makes a tiny 500 watt amp for use with Simone. I have Monique in a birdcage. And believe in the magic Jule creates. I’m surprised someone didn’t immediately grab this. -
I’d love to try some of their cabs , but they do not have much presence here.
-
Congratulations! That is one beauty of an amp. And hopefully the dealers in the UK will soon have stock. The Mesa cabs are wonderful too , although with Aguilar and Barefaced you should be ok.

I always plug into an amp , but my practice level is not loud. It’s not difficult to keep a volume knob down. I also use a headphone amp for silent practice. I live in a self contained unit so there’s no immediate neighbour to annoy. But if I was in an apartment building I doubt anyone else would hear me.

I’m perfectly ok with you using a pick. Welcome , Natalie.

I mostly see older mid sized Fender combos. We have some great tube techs in town so most of the older Fenders I see really sing.

I’m pretty sure that if he saw the house PA in the Land of Dreams he’d change his tune pretty quickly. There’s a reason most bands just run vocals through it. And very few can manage to get the monitors working.

Lightweight cabs here , I smile every time I pick one up. And my stage sound is gorgeous.

If that doesn’t work here’s an older YouTube of a different song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpDtoZ3sOos

Bergantino rig , often with a tube preamp. Mostly play mid sized rooms downtown. So I pack it , drive it downtown , set it up , play , pack , and drive it home. I appreciate small , and powerful , and light weight.

I still manage to play every weekend , and have an interesting new project on the go , so all is good.

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
msb replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
I’m quite taken with the retro look of the Talman. Communicated with the seller but haven’t picked it up , he lives about an hour away in Lunenburg. It will probably be mine tomorrow. I’ve heard good things about the Talman pickups although the Lobster thought they were a bit too bright. I have an old Fender grey bobbin Pbass pickup from the 70’s sitting in a drawer , and have just bought a Tbird style pickup to put in the bridge position. So I’m pretty committed to this as a project at this point. If I pass on this used one it’s pretty easy to get one delivered to my door. They’re cheap little basses. I might well be just putting lipstick on a pig , but it will be my pig. -
I’ve dropped gigs or venues because the fun was no longer there. I don’t depend on the money for expenses or bills , in fact I usually put it in a sock for future musical emergencies. And the sock at the moment is fairly flush. Music can become a complete misery if the joy is not there.

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
msb replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
The Dano was my first cheap good bass. Up until that I had simply bought the standard classics , but the Dano was cheap , sounded great , was light as a feather , and fun to play. It time it became a favourite bass and I’d inevitably choose that over basses that had cost many times what the Dano did. And so I started picking up other short scales … some US made name brands , some licensed offshore builds , some oddballs. And found that I was getting a surprising level of enjoyment from some of the cheaper basses. I recently picked up a vintage UniVox HiFlier , one from the early 70’s that was originally quite a cheap little thing , but one today that fetches inflated vintage prices. I got a pretty good deal and was quite surprised by both how good it sounds , and the fun I’m having playing it. Score! So it’s interesting for me to be after a truly budget bass with the intention of fixing it up. This is a new detour. If you like that Sandberg Florence keep your eyes peeled for that little Gibson bass that probably inspired it. The LesPaul , Double Cut Jr. Recently said to be discontinued , but a really nice little bass … and the cheapest thing Gibson make. If you see a used one for a good price , grab it. -

Those Sandbergs have a wonderful reputation but they are not common here in Nova Scotia. I’ve never actually seen one. This Florence had my attention simply because I have a Gibson LP DC Jr. But I love the look of this. https://www.sandberg-guitars.de/basses/sandberg-florence-bass-series/
