I just recently picked up an SL 112 after looking at them for a while now. The two DB 112 rig is legend. My usual gig rig is Bergantino with a mixed set , a 112 and 210. Designed to be used together. There’s some magic that happens with that pairing. Much of the time I just require one cab.

Therein lies the joy! I hope things will pan out.

Dragged it out to my favourite dive downtown for the Sunday jam , so I also got to hear it out front. I usually run a single Bergantino 112 in that room. I was hoping it would sound gorgeous , and it certainly did. I was using a Forte with a Monique pre. So I was after a classic old school thump. Delivered! Nice cab. I’ll probably keep it for home use and go back to the Bergs for gigs. But it is a nice sounding thing , full , rich . With authority.

Brought a HiFlier and. Longhorn to the gig. Hadn’t touched the HiFlier since I played it at a gig last week. It’s that time of year , the relief had shifted and the first two frets were buzzing out. I didn’t have my trusty Allen keys with me. Thankfully the Longhorn doesn’t have much of a seasonal shift. Slightly loosened the truss rod this morning and all is once again good. I’m going to be checking neck relief before I head out the door for the next while. Keep an eye on your stuff , it’s that time of year again.

Phase 2 UniVox HiFlier , it was made in the Matsumoku plant in Japan around 72/3. A copy of the Mosrite model the Ventures made famous. The original Mosrite has some design oddities so many feel the UniVox copy is actually a better bass. I can’t say , but my Flier is very light , and is a great sounding bass. It’s fun to play. 30 in shortscale.

It hasn’t seen much use , and I have turned it up for a quick check. No concerns. It’s not a real loud gig by any means , but I’m not in the PA so my stage sound has to fill the room.

It’s 3500 km each way.

After looking around for what seemed like ages an Aguilar SL112 popped up in our local market , so I immediately snagged it. It will be mostly for home use but I’ll take it downtown this weekend to hear it at room volume.

There are fake Epiphones going around. It’s not just high end vintage that’s being copied these days.

It’s still hard to believe someone would go on that kind of rampage in rural Nova Scotia. I’m a bit nerdy about gear and do enough gigs to justify buying good stuff. I use it. I usually just play mid sized bars and am frequently not in the PA so my stage sound is the room sound. I put it in the car , drive downtown , set it up play , and drive it home. So I like modern cab design that’s smaller , lighter , and can pack a good wallop. This cab checks all those boxes , but I’ll keep this mostly for home use , although I’m tempted to try it out downtown this weekend. I would love to hear it at room levels…

As long as Kinga Glyk pops up I’m ok… I’ve got a bit of a bass crush on her. Great player !

Once you get up around snare drum levels the sound does get more electric , but it’s still a different thing than an electric bass. I’ve used a mix of magnetic and piezo pickups , it becomes quite the rabbit hole.

I love those later 4001 basses!
