  1. Whenever I’d get a new bass I’d gig it until it paid for itself , and then go back to the old reliable.
  2. I have twenty something , and it’s been over a year since I bought one , there’s one I might sell. I have a nice selection at this point , but there’s always room for another. No gas at all right now. I have picked up several amps in the last year.
  3. I mostly gig with a Dano because of the way it sits in a stage mix , but the Jr is the first one I pick up at home. And is easily my favourite one to play.
  4. I bought a Dano Longhorn when they first reissued , and did not care for the short scale , but after playing it for a while it became comfy , and then I came to prefer it. I still have a bunch of classic basses I really don’t play much anymore.
  5. I’ve been watching , and waiting , and hoping to find a used one. Might eventually wind up ordering a new one from Jule. But I’ve got a great gig rig , and nice home practice rigs now. It’s not something I need, but it’s something I’d love to have.

    Plexi fakes

Those vintage Ampegs fetch silly prices these days. And the later small runs of reissues are too. The Grecos are hard to find, so a MIC copy delivered for $400 with no fuss is tempting. I’ve played the originals. I’ve hit the pause button for now , but the temptation remains. A friend just ordered one , I’m looking forward to hearing his experience and review.
  7. If you drop the nose of the Gibson 3point bridge too much then the back ferrules can lift.
  8. Nice score! I have the Unicorn that was based on that , but headless.

Just discovered it is not a shortscale , unfortunately a game changer for me.

    Plexi fakes

Looking at plexi Dan Armstrong fakes for fun today, it seems I can get one delivered to my door for under four hundred. The originals fetch serious prices , and certainly had their issues. I’m tempted , but have yet to order one. Some reviews say they’re wretched , others were pleasantly surprised to find a bass they said “wasn’t bad at all”. So there’s some luck involved. This would not be a primary bass , simply something fun and funky.
  11. You look happy! Congratulations , gorgeous bass!

    Show us your rig!

At a rehearsal last week , I usually lug my ancient GK MB150, noticed it wasn’t up to snuff. Volume dropped and it was sounding distorted. I once blew the amp up and loved it enough to get the power module replaced. At the time GK were moving their manufacturing , it took about a year to get the part. I have a friend that knows these well , and it’s off for repair. Should return like a brand new amp.
  13. They truly are gorgeous things.
  14. I went looking in the uk and couldn’t find a thing. Thomann did have some Gibson guitar pickup covers online so they might be able to order some , might be faster to just buy on on eBay though…
  15. I’ll say it again , those are really nice little basses. They’re light , and with the pickup in the classic sweet spot they work much like a Pbass. The simplicity of two knobs. And they just happen to be a short scaled set necked Gibsons. They really are fun to play.
  16. I’ve never had an issue with the stock 3point bridge , but I’ve loved the look of the hipshot. This has been my favourite player for quite a while now, it’s a beautiful little thing to play. With a single pickup in the classic sweet spot this actually behaves much like a Pbass. Lightweight , and fun. I love this bass.
  17. I played in several bands that never rehearsed but were always adding new material. You’d get a tape or a link with the material and work it out on stage. Always fun to have a fresh go at something. It made me appreciate a good practice where you can stop everything mid tune and say “what is going on here?” Doing a project this afternoon that does rehearse. Everyone has been coming in prepared. It’s fun, but I’d really love this material to see an audience.
  18. Generally three sets that can be from 50-75 minutes. Plus encore. We generally do the whole night , but many of the kids will have three or four bands split the night. They’re lucky to get beer money doing that …
  19. Many of my amps were bought on kijiji. I bought my DB from a friend that refurbishes them. But I found a GenzBenz Streamliner (that I had agedhorse check and upgrade) , a GK MB200 , an SWR Headlite (a hundred bucks) a Darkglass e500 , and a Hotone. And various basses and pedals. The secret is to simply keep a musical emergency fund in a sock so you can instantly spring when you spot something interesting. There’s only certain things I’ll entertain now. But I watch it like a hawk.
  20. I’m probably not going to bother , there’s nothing I need. However … I watch kijiji , like a hawk , and have found some great deals there over the years. Sometime I can’t resist.
