  1. I usually have some memory work to do , and like to warm up with scales , but I have to give myself a good chunk of time to simply goof around and explore. That time has certainly been a gift when I get a solo.
  2. At the jam there are some that are just ear players without a lot of theory, and others that have completed music degrees. Some that can lead a band with gestures , and some that are terrible communicators. We get the dog’s dinner …
  3. With E, G , B , C and D sounding so similar in a noisy room with musicians that I suspect suffer some hearing issues … we have a recipe for disaster at the best of times.
  4. I’m in a long running house band for a blues jam every Sunday , I always write down several songs to listen to. Sometimes I’m surprised at how close I imagined the bass part might go. And sometimes not. As long as one person in the house band knew what was going on we’re usually fine. It’s a fascinating dynamic when most of the band has no clue as to what’s about to happen.
  5. You could buy the Exponent and have both pedals in the software Suite.
  6. It’s a lot of fun , it takes a little time to get comfy with the Suite , but it quickly falls into place. I’m still discovering what various things can do , it’s easy to edit and save presets. So you can continue to fine tune anything you construct at a later time. I hope you find the fun I’ve been having with it! Enjoy!
  7. I approve of the 200 500 900 watt choices. My little GK MB200 was a favourite home practice amp, it could also handle small and mid sized rooms. I was heartbroken when it stopped working and went looking for a replacement, couldn’t find anything at the time that I liked better. I did get it repaired. But if these had been around I might well have picked one up.
  8. I hope you have the fun I’ve been having. The software takes some time to get , but it doesn’t take too long. I enjoy constructing presets , and I’ve noticed they seem to be a little more subtle as I become more familiar with the process. The amp carries a good learning curve.
  9. I do mostly mid sized rooms , and am not in the PA for most gigs , so my amp has to fill the room. I like modern heads and cabs. I’m lugging them.

  11. What’s not to love? I bought a Squier VI last year and continue to spend a surprising amount of time on it. Love the thing. I really didn’t expect to enjoy it nearly as much as I have. edit It came with fairly light strings , people complained , and Fender made a heavier string set available. I put on the heavier strings and like them a lot better. I had to slightly file the nut on the low E slot , and re-intonate. No big deal.

  13. They often seemed to do various pickup combinations with each option. I’ve seen that shape referred to as Specter or NS 2J for the one that had two Jazz pickups.
  14. That has the half slotted headstock , the OP’s bass has a standard 2+2. I found a Jupiter on kijiji recently and convinced an old friend to snag it. He once sold me a Riverhead Unicorn.
  15. I’ve been hoping for a tremolo pedal sim , they’ve added more options to the Suite since it became available , but there’s still some effects it would be nice to access. I simply hope maybe with the next update … no idea when that might happen. An octave pedal would also be nice! Not aware of any news on the controller they’ve hinted at. Heck , I was willing to buy a hoodie , but those are sold out at the moment too. It would be nice to find a Darkglass forum , haven’t really found one yet.
  16. That will change. As cheap labour becomes more expensive things will even out. I’ve got some instruments from Japan , Korea , China , Hong Kong and Indonesia. And have not discovered shoddy workmanship on any of them. Aside from the US the largest group are from Korea. Well made.
  17. Great thread! I‘ve generally played in blues bands , some with fussy old school types , some with more interpretation. Years ago I was in a play about Hank Williams Sr, we wore suits and copped the feel of the material quite well. It was a nice study , the audience loved it. It was a good gig. it was just a stand up and play situation.

  20. Welcome , where are you living now Cayote? Fretless is a joy. It will take time to become comfortable , and your ear will improve. I picked it up for a number of years and then went back to fretted instruments. I regret selling my fretless Pbass.
  21. There was a time cheap instruments were awful , that’s changed. Many today are quite nice. Good players that hold a setup. So settle on one and enjoy.
  22. I’ve been putting a lot of time in with this. The software did take some time , but I managed to get comfy with it surprisingly quickly. The whole point of this is the ability to create custom presets , and store them so you can quickly retrieve them. And I’ve succeeded! There are twenty two available effects and pedals in the software Suite. I wish there was tremolo , but aside from that I’m quite happy with the selection . I’m looking forward to the next software update to see what might be included next. It’s pretty straightforward building a preset , and you can only combine eight. You can store any number , and load five at a time for immediate access. Those are the rules/limitations. They work for me. I don’t mind using a tablet to program the amp. It sounds real good , but it’s up to you to program the presets. It does come preloaded with a selection that showcases much of what’s available. It’s simple to return any effect to the “factory” setting. I enjoy spinning the knobs and seeing exactly what everything does. You can turn every effect you’ve loaded off to dial something in and then individually check how everything works together. You can re-assign the functions of five knobs on the front of the amp to suit your preset. You can easily edit and save any changes at a future point. I do wish there was a forum for Exponent users to exchange tips and tricks , I haven’t found anything specific yet. I’m using this with a Phil Jones C2 cabinet at a reasonably low volume , although last week did have it plugged into an Ampeg 210AV. I’m getting nice tone. I like this amp. You are given incredible control to craft and shape whatever tone you’re looking for. It’s a complete chameleon.
  23. I used to think the rosewood boards were best , and then noticed that the Fenders I had been mostly playing both had maple. So I ditched that preconception.
