  1. I have the book. It’s a beautiful work! I don’t know if there’s much of a difference between the real Gibson Tbird pickups and those made in Korea. I should just take the covers of my Rumblekat pickups off and have a look at them. I have an Epi Flying V with Tbird pickups. And an SG and Jr bass with Tbird pickups (although the Jr just has the single pickup) edit … the Kat has a four pole pickup
  2. Andy Field still services those amps , unfortunately he’s in California, but after a trip to the spa they’re like a brand new amp. I had him check out my Streamliner. The only catch is if an unauthorized repair person has been at the amp he charges extra to undo the “repairs”. Thankfully mine had never been molested, I think he only charged about $85 for the overhaul. It was money well spent.
  3. Trying to learn a little more about the Epiphone NYC pickups used in the Rumblekat. I was reading that Alan Woody had a thing for Firebird guitar pickups but that some Gibsons in the mid 60’s used Epiphone pickups before the stock ran out. I’ve read the original Epi NYC pickups were mini humbuckers. Do the Rumblekat Epi NYC pickups have six pole pieces? And the Gibson Tbird pickups that keep popping on other basses. They’re underneath the covers on a SG and a single one is on the DC Jr. what other basses are they on ? I know the Epi version was used on some of the Flying V reissues. And suspect they are on Gibson Vs as well.

There’s still many in Halifax without , some intersection lights are still dark , but as you go North the devastation increases , it will be a while before we see normal again. But we are among the lucky with power and no real damage.

We spend much of our time looking after my mother in law , she was lucky and had power restored the next afternoon. We just got power back at our place last night. One large branch fell on our shed, it’s been removed and we’re just chunking it now , fortunately our freezer had little in it as we mostly eat at the in-laws. It’s been cleaned out. We had a twelve hour storm , a lot of trees were down , most of the province lost power , but it was the North Eastern section of NS that bore the brunt of it. We were the lucky ones this time. Just the usual cleanup to finish up now. Extreme weather is no fun. And is happening more frequently. When Juan hit , we got a direct hit and lost twenty trees in our back yard. It was a mess. So this one’s easy.

They’re all very different amps. Missing Aguilar and Mesa , but that could change. And there’s a bunch of British and European amps that we rarely see out here that I’d love to try. Amp design has come such a long way in the last twenty years , now there’s some old school tube heads that don’t care for Class D , and I totally respect that opinion , but for my needs they do the job beautifully. I love them!
  7. With a recent arrival I thought it might be a good time to get a group shot. Mostly Class D heads these days , I have Ampeg , Bergantino and Phil Jones cabs. Genz Benz Streamliner 900 , a powerhouse with a tube preamp , overhauled a while back by Andy Field , it’s like a brand new amp. Bergantino Forte , clean transparent , but with some serious slam , my main gig amp , SWR Headlite fairly recent addition and has a surprising number of features packed in a small box, Darkglass Exponent , wild little thing you can program with a tablet , GK MB200 great little practice amp , and a Hotone Thunderbass , I use as a headphone amp. Missing , my ancient little GK MB150 combo. Originally bought for upright , became a favourite practice , studio , rehearsal amp. Now mostly grab and go for rehearsals. I’m a bit of an amp nerd , and there’s a bunch I’d love to try out that we never see around here , most of the local stores stock the same stuff.
  8. I can’t compare them , I just have the Exponent. And no dealer in the region. But I suspect the basic amp stage is the same although the Micro and Omega have six band slider eq and the Exponent has four band eq.
  9. I suspect it is , but I can’t confirm. You do have access to both pedals in the Suite.
  10. You’re starting out on the right foot! welcome !
  11. One of these days I’m going to try stereo. I just need a stereo cable and a splitter.
  12. The fan in my MB200 stopped working and that led to the end of the ICE power module. I looked around at other amps and decided the MB was worth saving. I did find a qualified repair guy , and it’s been running like it’s old self once more. I love that little amp , but it’s been sidelined since I picked up a Darkglass Exponent.
  13. I was surprised by the time I’ve spent on my Squier VI , so when a baritone popped up on kijiji I snagged it. The Gretsch was originally designed to be a BassVI , but they strung it as a baritone when it went to market. It’s a 30 in scale , like the Squier but I tune it A-A.
  14. An old friend used to go on about how he hated music , he did have a stereo and the entire Joni Mitchell discography. When I asked about that it was said to aid him in the quest of getting lucky. Fair enough…
  15. Trickfish is another amplification company with no presence here whatsoever. I love a nice clean transparent head with some serious slam.
  16. It made landfall quite North of us but the hurricane was enormous , and we had one ripper for about twelve hours. Lost power for a day , we’re back but much of the city is still dark. A lot of trees down. We had one large branch land on our shed , that’s the only big cleanup for us this time , when Juan hit we lost twenty trees. No structural damage to the house. Lucky. The Northern parts of the province got nailed. It’s a declared disaster area. The storm was severe enough to rip the roofs off buildings , severe flooding. It’s left quite the mess. On the other hand whenever a big tropical storm moves up the coast the surfing community come for the big waves. They come from all over the Eastern Seaboard. Those maniacs surf the North Atlantic all winter…
  17. Everybody back then was using Pbasses. (myself included) There was the rare EB3 or Jazz , but almost everybody seemed to have a Pbass , there were a couple of players with Rics , but they weren’t selling , and the local stores never had them. They were rare around here , but I could have picked up pre CBS Pbasses for $3-400 at the time. The old ones were cheaper than new ones. Thought I had all the bass I needed , I was an idiot.
  18. One of my interests coming into this forum was to check out cabs and amps that seem pretty common in Europe and the UK but that are fairly rare over here. Barefaced cabs are one of those companies. I hear great things about them but you rarely see them over here. Ashdown was rare around here but have recently been making an appearance in L&M. Eich and Vanderkley are two more we never see. Heck, we don’t even have anybody around here carrying Darkglass. edit we used to see tons of Ampeg and Sunn , then GK was everywhere. Then came a Eden , Trace , SWR period and then Markbass was everywhere, today it seems to be Mesa.
  19. Spent years looking for a Ric back before the internet , they simply never came up locally. Finally scored one on a visit to Toronto. I’ve had it for a good while now , still get a little weak in the knees when I look at it. I love a nice Ric , it was my main player for a good number of years. 80 4001 , one of the later ones , and a 76 4000.
  20. Yes indeed , and then re-assign specific effect functions to the knobs on the amp so you can quickly readjust things. So with each preset you can change what the knobs control , except for gain and volume. And it’s easy to see what functions the knobs now control with each preset. There’s a library of twenty two effects in the Suite now. They say more on the way… You can load five presets at a time , and store as many as you can write. You can store and load them in seconds.
  21. After about a week playing with the Darkglass Suite it’s pretty much all fallen into place , there’s still moments of discovery. Most of the presets I’ve loaded are ones I’ve created. My only complaint is I’m still fiddling more with what the knobs can do than simply playing , but there’s twenty something pedals and effects available. It does take time to digest all that. I’m wondering what Darkglass might add to the suite next. And after all that playing around , the presets I enjoy the most emulate a nice old school warm woody thump. It’s that classic bass sound. It will do it.
