My usual gigging bass is a Dano Longhorn , I don’t really understand just how that happened , I’ve learned to live with it. It weighs nothing , sounds great , and is fun to play. I still haven’t decided if it’s cool as heck , or butt ugly.

It does have that retro futurism happening. The future ain’t what it used to be.

I’ve mostly moved to short scales , but the Sam is comfortable to play. -

I used to go looking for them , there were always several in Japan , the odd one in the US , sometimes one in the UK or Australia. Never here in Canada , so when one popped up in Toronto I got it. -

Quiet weekend , aside from a hurricane hitting the coast Saturday, so if things are open Sunday I have the gig in the local blues dive. I’ll bring the Forte and a 112. Small light , sounds great. Bought a toy recently , a Darkglass Exponent, it’s replaced the GK MB200 on the Phil Jones cab for the time being. I’m maybe knee deep into the software , I’m really enjoying the discovery. There’s a steep learning curve on this. -
At that time they were not making a lot of basses , and the specs were frequently changing so it’s fairly simple to spot each period. And they are beautiful things. The later 4001 basses don’t have “the features” but they are more affordable. They’ve been creeping up in value though. It always seems that yesterday was the best time to buy one.

I was not aware of LeFay, that simply looks gorgeous. Nice catch.

Walked into the little vintage shop we used to have and saw a Wishbass hanging on the wall. I was familiar with them but had never seen one in the flesh. It did not disappoint. Dog ugly. It had the crudest finish I’ve seen on any instrument , the neck was enormous , everything about it was primitive. And this was one of the uglier ones. Oh , I’ve seen tons of bad lutherie , and questionable design over the years , but nothing could hold a candle to that thing.

I hope things will be all right , Telebass.

I saw it on kijiji , but dawdled and a friend snapped it up. I messaged him that I was going to breakdown and bid on it , he told me he just got it home. Several weeks later he flipped it to me at cost. He bought another headless bass. Said there was only room in the stable for one headless bass. I like it ! It’s surprisingly balanced (didn’t expect that) comfortable to play , nice neck , sounds good. And recently I spotted an even rarer Riverhead Jupiter bass by Headway on kijiji and suggested my friend go for it. Silly good price. He got it. -

Welcome , it’s a comfortable place for the nerdy! At least I’ve found it so … guilty.

I keep a big felt one in my case , ready in case a guitar player asks if I have a pick.

made fun of them myself and wound up with several , naturally , they’ve become favourites. You might be next.

I managed to find one of those ! And it’s a lovely thing , I got it just in case I might have the need to run away and join a new wave outfit. If this blues thing doesn’t pan out … -

Measure first , it might well fit in a guitar case. Congratulations on the Ray ! EB make some of the best production instruments in the US. -
The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!
msb replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars
There’s quite a difference in size from one short scale to another , much of it is how the bridge sits on the body. Sometimes the bridge is right at the edge , on other basses it might be 1/3 of the way into the body. Here’s two Dano shortscales , the Longhorn will fit in many guitar cases , the DC will not. -
I’ve been fine with the Snarks , if I had issues they would be gone. I rarely try and tune while the stage is noisy , I generally tune before we start , and sometimes do quick checks between songs . My usual bass holds tuning well. No real issues or complaints.

Two practice rigs , one at home , one at the in-laws (looking after my mother-in-law) . Home rig … SWR Headlite into an Ampeg210AV, fan in the SWR is a bit noisy , but tolerable. And at the in-laws , Darkglass Exponent 500 into a little Phil Jones C2. I had been using a GK MB200 with the C2 , GK might move home in place of the SWR … we’ll see. I really love that little GK. Also have a handy GK MB150 combo when I have to go out for rehearsal. Still a great little amp!
