  1. They were all over the map, but the boat anchors first appeared around 74 or so , and usually had black pickguards , and the tug bar was repositioned to be a thumb rest. I still have my 72 , it’s light , and whenever someone would pick it up would invariably say “nice one”. I got lucky.
  2. At the time they were built the tv logo Fenders were horribly inconsistent , you’d play a dozen or so and one would clearly be “the one”. And the next person would choose a different one. You really need to play them before purchase , they were all over the map. But the “good” ones were gorgeous. And some were simply god awful.
  3. Me too , after just playing a Pbass for so many years it seems I play just about everything but these days …
  4. Jimmy Johnson invented the 5 string bass as we know it.
  5. Looks like a fine little rig , glad you found a way for it to find you.
  6. I was looking at the custom build and it just said 34 . I’d love to see an Epi Pro short scale Tbird for under a thousand , but it ain’t about to happen. Gibson once did a small run of 30 in Tbirds and they sold fairly fast , but that was it.
  7. It would be tempting if they did this in a 30in scale.
  8. I know musicians that are great readers , but are not great improvisers. But from their first look at a piece can play with conviction , emotion , and depth , and not just follow the dots. But most of the ones I play with are the opposite.
  9. I feel the pain , I’ve had a number of close calls but they’ve been just outside my budget , I could sell some stuff but I’m still more inclined to hang on to what I have than order a Dingwall. I’d be looking at the smaller SuperJ or SuperP if I did.
  10. I slip it a fresh battery every once in a while.
  11. Much of learning an instrument is repetition and practice, developing a muscle memory, and I see the time and work that’s involved in getting there. Playing simple scales can be an art form. You can make them fun , and even exciting. I would never discourage good technique.
  12. When I first went to Bergantino it was a revelation. Good cabs can make a huge difference.
  13. I loved his Super P in a four , but it was just beyond my snack bracket at the time.
  14. I picked up a fiver some years back but didn’t make the transition. Still a four string guy.
  15. I have a regular Ray 3 band that’s about twenty years old ,I don’t really compare it to other basses , it’s got a unique thing going on . And I like it. I usually gig with something that’s more thumpy , but for home practice that Ray stays beside the couch.
  16. We had to walk through the snow to get to school , uphill … both ways.
  17. There’s some amazing clips of fairly young players with great feel , and a joy in playing , she’s a bit busy here but the sense of sheer fun is infectious.
  18. The gnome is on my radar as something to check out , I’m pretty well amped up , but more likely to see an amp than a bass show up on the doorstop. No local dealers. edit it appears there are no Warwick dealers in Canada
  19. It’s been a while , but I’ve played a ton of bike rallies. Never seen any problems , but they self discipline , if anyone acts like an ***hole the hive quickly steps in. I’ve only been told that , never seen any issues.
  20. Old Pbass guy that loves a nice Ric and acquired many of the classics over the years , somehow got hooked on Danelectros. Don’t know just how it happened but I’m ok with it. They weigh next to nothing , sound great and are a heck of a lot of fun to play. Also developing a thing for Gibson short scales.
  21. Check out the Hollywood Fats stuff he did , some more things have been surfacing but they just released one album , and it became such a major influence for so many. Deadly little band. Their classic take of Rock This House …
  22. Welcome Urko , I hope you’ll find what you need to get that amp going. Trace amps are well worth the repair, just make sure whoever does the work is qualified.
