1. Glad to see John Deacon sneaking in top left! 😁
2. Well, this is my 1000th post and I have realised, I have not done an intro! So, I'm 39 been playing since 14, not a gifted player, but I'd like to think I have accomplished a few bass player 'to do's before I die'. Like most I have been through loads of gear in an attempt to find my perfect setup. Not quite there yet!! I'm currently in one pub covers band that also does a tribute with the addition of a percussionist. Been in it for about seven years. In all the the bands I have been in, this is one without an ego, we get on great. I have the feeling some of the audience 'get' bass players, others just wonder why the bloke at the back is not picking up the empty pint glasses. I'd like to gig till I drop of old age and hope I can still play a bass in a pub even when I'm too old to cart gear around. And of course, I love BC and loiter on a daily basis!
3. Kev, is this a slim d neck like the early thumb 5's?
4. Right, I have a Warwick 87 SS2 nt. I love the feel of the neck and string spacing at the nut. For me, I think the 35inch scale is a little too long. Problem is, I can't get on with the tone, it's too harsh and clangy compared to my old 80's thumb which sounded rich with warmth. The rounder neck was not as comfortable as my current SS2. So, any recommendations on a bass (not specifically Warwick)? Slim/fast jazz style neck (d shape?), prefer NT, but not essential. Medium scale 5 string A deep resonant rich sounding wood body Narrow string spacing, possibly with adjustable bridge. Active or passive Quite tempted by a double humbucker option, but not essential for pickups Simple controls - I'm not up for parametric mid tone super bendy multiple dial do dats. Budget around £1500 - happy to buy used.
5. Could you provide nut and bridge string measurements? What style is the neck?
6. A good selection of responses btw!
7. I'm not sure TBH. I'm thinking a pickup with a kind of stingray sound that comes in a traditional single jazz pickup design. It could be active or passive..
8. Is there such a pickup that comes in a jazz pickup style but is a double humbucker? Or at the very least mimicks the sound?
9. This is back at Bassdirect, I was quite interested last time before it went. Do you reckon its still the slim neck era? Id beinterested to see if the LEDs could be added back in, as my onstage eyesight is getting a little dodgy under stage lights.
10. I have just bought the Ampeg and am very happy with it. I initially had a clipping issue with it until i discovered the internal pad (my bass is active). It really kicks out a good tone, I have also found the scrambler to add just that bit of OD that I wanted. I have had a sans amp in the past and feel the Ampeg is better. Just my opinion though!
11.
No trades Thanks. I'd describe the neck as slim.
Ah ok, .... and string spacing at the bridge and nut? Thanks.
12. There used to be on off Putney high st, can't remember the name though.
13.
In the spirit of the OP... I picked up the bass because I couldn't manage the full six strings in the standard gee-tar. Why would I want to complicate that by adding one more... and me back couldn't handle the extra weight anyway...
Same here, glad I did!!
14. These little doozies are my new tone now I have no valve amp (Di straight to the pa from now on) I have an autowah, microsynth and octave pedals to go with them. From the YouTube reviews, I am looking forward to trying them out!
15. Olivier bought my TE Hexavalve head from me, great comms nice fella. He is based in Europe and met me a Dover port to collect. I would happily sell to him again.
16.
My funeral bass is going to be funding my car repairs this week to get the kids to and from nursery.
Yep, my kit has just paid for a new wheel bearing, belt pulley and dpf. It's a Nissan primastar, A gift that just keeps on giving!
17. Well, I sold my Hexavalve to a lovely fella from Belgium. He met me at Dover port a really nice guy. He paid via bank transfer, however, it came out £6 short, I didn't mind. We meet up and low a behold, he has brought some traditional locally brewed beer as a gift! I had one last night, absolutely beautiful beer! Sweet, light with plenty of head. 9% mind, so I only had 1 (he gave me three 75cl bottles). It's been said before, but some really top people on BC, a great community to cherish! Cheers Olivier, enjoy the amp!
18. Ok, it's gone... so who had it??? In a way I'm glad at my procrastination, i could have recieved a bass that I really didn't 'feel'..... that's what I'm telling myself anyway. If the new owner is on here, fancy a NBD review? 😀
