  1. I'm from all over really but studied in Leeds, then lived in Huddersfield and Halifax for a few years. Never lived anywhere else as long until I moved to London... What about thee?
  2. Ooh, I don't know Widders Morris. I have a couple of friends in Clerical Error and know a couple of people in Shrewsbury Morris. I can't imagine trucking around with a big double bass will be much fun at all! Although you might be able to press some of the younger members to carry it for you!
  3. Ooh, hi! Which Morris side do you play for? I used to dance with White Rose (Huddersfield / Halifax) and then Rampant Rooster in Dorking.
  4. Hahaha! No, I don't dance any more! Damaged tendons in both my heels from too much dancing one day. But Morris dancing and Goth are pretty much the same thing... you get dressed up, dance around and drink a lot of beer! I don't have any recent photos but here's an accordion video from about 3 years ago... https://youtu.be/b1EdQXmbY_Q
  5. Would using a midi drum controller with velocity sensitive keys make a difference? I use the Novation Launchpad X to input approximate rhythms which I then quantize to varying degrees. Or you can get an Alesis drum pad for around £40 on eBay if you want to actually use sticks. I think that variation in trigger velocity and slight timing variation would make a difference?
  6. For gear reviews I like BassTheWorld. Then for playing and the occasional bits of tuition, Nicki Tedesco is really good and just for playing / bass covers, Skinny Bass is very good. I'm not really a fan of bass lessons too much, I find them quite demotivating (that's just me and my autism though!). Oh, and Andertons..... I watched a review of the Boss GT-1B. One of the testers started complaining about how it was sounding a bit too gain-y. He was running his active bass through the GT-1B's preamp sims with cab sims, then into a bass head (another preamp and power amp) and into a mic'ed up speaker. Yeah, that's going to sound a bit gain-y, ya big lump of gorgonzola. Haven't been able to take them seriously since.
  7. Hi everyone, I thought I'd pop in and say hello. I've been playing bass for the last three years or so, having played in my late teens (I'm now 50) but never in a band. Joined a covers band last year, we did a gig before Christmas but I've decided they weren't really for me. I'm noodling around on my own for the moment, which makes me happy. I'm slowly making my own tunes, teaching myself guitar and learning to program drums and snip audio samples in Reaper. I come from a goth / alternative / industrial background via folk music and Morris dancing (I also play diatonic accordion). Oh, also teaching myself violin with a customised / upgraded gear4music electric model. I'm a bit of a gear / tech fan, not really a nerd as such but enjoy learning new things. I'm a big fan of TC Electronic stereo effects and run my signal into an FRFR setup using an Ampeg PF-500 as a preamp. Happy to talk about my setup for anyone who's interested! Oh, I'm autistic too.
