  1. Well, @skelf pulled it out of the bag and got me my new Custom Recurve before I have to go back to Mexico and even before my *redacted* birthday tomorrow. But it's clearly not a rush job. Arrived about half an hour ago and it's all I could have wished for! Gorgeous, crafted to the highest standards and after just 10 minutes noodling it already feels completely like home. The neck is absurdly playable, as anyone who has played an ACG will know. There's just something about them that feels intuitive and right and fast and confidence inspiring. And this one also happens to look incredible. Recurve 4, 33 inch scale, East pre and combination of PB and RFB pickups. Hybrid Turkish Walnut top, birch accent, alder body, mac ebony board, maple and wenge neck. Looking forward to getting it home and playing around with the sounds with my usual setup and not a shitty 15w practice amp that distorts if you even breathe on it.
  2. I am a complete Newtone comvert. Wonderful strings. I wind them to tension with the end in the slot horizontally (i.e. not put down into the body of the peg) then unwind and cut then reinstall. Bit of a pain but never a problem.
  3. Not sure that kind of sensible advice will get through to most of us on here😁
  4. Thanks Andy. A pleasure to deal with someone so open, clear and organised!
  5. Glad to have played a small part in this rather wholesome story. As the Bard nearly has it "Let me not to the marriage of true bass, Admit impediments"
  6. Too slim at the nut for me, unfortunately but someone is going to get a lovely bass there!
  7. Very lovely, also pretty local. Is it a Jazz neck (38mm nut and slim profile) or is it a bit more chunky?
  8. It's sensational, but ACG seems to be a limited, hardcore fan base kind of thing, which is a shame because they are also very playable and sound great.
  9. Going to a shop on 13th August so time to get off any fences you may be on...
  10. It's Chinese. 2020 according to the guitarproject lookup and Andy Travis as the original owner was selling it as less than a year old in 2021 so it seems to make sense.
  11. I will probably feel the same way one day.
  12. It's like a bring and buy sale on here! It's still a lovely bass....
  13. The lovely, lovely Faded Pelham Blue 🤤 In great conditon with some really light rash and one tiny imperfection that I have to search to find. Upgraded Babicz bridge and Grover tuners and some nice thumpy flats. Got this a couple of years ago from Happypants (feel free to search his advert as it has a lot of details - hope you don't mind @Happypants) and I was planning to buy the hardcase and take it over to Mexico with me but it didn't happen that tme and with one thing and another (to be honest, one ACG, one T40 and now a new ACG and an acoustic) it's not going to happen so it should go and get played, or drooled over, somewhere else. I've had it out of the bag literally twice. Once when I got it and gave it a quick play and jus now to check all is in order and take some picture. That was a mistake because it feels great and it looks dreamy but I have to harden the heart (and I need the money to cover what I just spent on the acoustic!) Asking what I paid for it. Collect or meetup within reason in North Kent or South London. Really not a great idea to courier this but if you want to risk it I have a strong cardboard box and some bubble wrap.
  14. This is a hard one to let go, mainly because it is the best bass I have ever owned but also because it means I am admitting I am just not a 5 player. I practically stole this from @Descendent of this parish last year for a grand so that's what I want to get back from it. Worth every penny and more but ACGs are criminally undervalued. Fair to say the shape isn't for everyone but it's very pretty in the flesh, well balanced on strap or lap, a very reasonable 3.9kg ...... oh and it sounds fantastic with a huge tonal range from the filter preamp and the coil switches. Amazing resonance that sends every note through the body, the gorgeous ACG neck with flat board so you can get it set up very low (as I have it) and some lovely figuring on the woods, especially the Black Limba body. I could sit and stare at it all day just as a piece of craftsmanship and aesthetic beauty but it deserves to be played by someone with better technique than me and I need to get some money in and create the space for a new custom build from Alan. 34 inch scale. Filter preamp so controls are: stacked volume and pickup selection sweep; individual frequency filters by pickup; stacked treble gain and frequency. In very very good condition, with only one small nick on the body that looks much worse in the picture than in reality. Prefer not to courier as I don't really have the time to sort it all out during the holidays but can always discuss with a potential buyer if needs be. Collection from Medway or SE London or can meet up within reason. I'll put this up for 2 weeks then it goes to Bass Bros for a commission sale as I can't hang around I'm afraid.
  15. I think you're ok on this one because it's a man's bass, so no explanation required!
  16. This is quite the boutique bass clearout you've got going on here, Jack! Luckily all way beyond my budget but great to drool over!
  17. I really don't need an acoustic bass and I have too many basses and I need to sell some, but that's really very handsome indeed ..... do you know the nut width?
  18. Nice Yin Yang lines going there. You should organise a big ACG appreciation society meeting to try and achieve some Escher-style regular division of a plane.
  19. Oof! Rays aren't really my thing but that is special!
  20. 13 is unlucky for some - I think you need another one 😁 Lovely figuring on the top of this one.
  21. Or maybe Alan will send me a WIP picture and I won't be able to resist...
  22. Fully agree. I started playing way back when because I was a Stranglers obsessed 15 year old. I wanted that JJ look but my dad got me a Squier Jazz - black and rosewood. When I got back into playing a few years ago I had a nostalgia trip. Couldn't afford a Shuker but this was a very good alternative.
  23. Going to a shop on 13th of August if there is no interest. 650 with Fender hard case or 600 without. Collected or meetup around Medway or SE London. Can post if you arrange courier. I've let my GAS get the better of me and with three new additions to the stable on their way in I need to make some room (and some cash) so this and a couple of others are going to have to find new homes. MIM but very much at the higher end of the quality scale. Alder body, weighs a lovely comfy 3.6kg and balances well. Previous owner upgraded the bridge, which was the one weak link in the original hardware, to a much nicer Babicz but other than that it is all stock. I don't think this has ever been gigged - the previous owner had it in the studio and I've had it at home so overall it's in really nice condition. Not a ding or scratch on the neck or headstock at all. Paintwork is good, no buckle rash but one small ding on the underside of the body close to the pots (see pic). The scratchplate which is a kind of matte rubber effect is a bit tired. I was going to replace it with a more standard hard plastic one but never got round to it. Playing wise, the neck is fantastic: chunky but great to get around (this is the bass that killed me for Jazz or slim necks in general). Frets fine, truss rod fine. The action can be set super low if you want. Seymour Duncan quarter pounders so it has a strong output. To me it sounds much more at home with rounds than flats, possibly something to do with the brass nut? These came originally with a branded gig bag but it lives in a Fender´deluxe' (ooh!) hard case now. I've seen these going for anything from a grand to 600 quid. In this condition with the upgraded bridge and the hard case I think this is a steal but I need it gone and would rather it goes to someone here than selling it to an online store.
  24. I'll keep the details for the big reveal on here 😀
