It could be the valve, you can pick them up for less than £10 on Ebay. Just look for an 12AX7 or ECC83. You don't need anything fancy. A JJ Tesla will do the trick Is it, all the time or just with the valve preamp selected? There will be people more expert than me along but that's what I would try first before taking it to an amp tech

I'll be using this for gig number 2 on Friday night with the Getback band at 20 Rocks in Falkirk if anyone would like to see or hear it in action. Its £7 on the door. There will be a support act first then we're on about 9:30pm. I've bought one of those black things that go around the pickup when you take the cover off so you don't take the skin off your fingers. If the bass is still here by then I'll be fitting it for the gig. They're anything from £20-40 for these but it will be included with the bass when it sells
Always fancied a Rick but never took the plunge... :-/
Go on, dive in One of the really good things about Ricks is that they hold their value remarkably well. The prices always seem to be going up as well. I bought a midnight blue one about 5 years ago and it was £1169 from GuitarGuitar, their now about £1849

highest tension flatwound strings for a 5 stringer
Delberthot replied to Old Horse Murphy's topic in Bass Guitars
The Rotos are totally smooth, quite high tension and the best sounding of all the flats I've used but I would say that Chromes are the highest tension -
oh yes If you want grinding Chris Squire tones then with the right EQ/overdrive it can do it but favour the neck pickup and it becomes very mellow but still retains and amazing tone that I've never found on any other bass. Do not think that these are pure clank machines that can't do anything else. There's a huge selection of tones available here. I was using this with a Hartke LH500 and its actually capable of overdriving the preamp valve. I'm also in no rush to sell so won't accept any lowball offers. If its still here by the end of August then it'll be coming with me to Liverpool when my band play the Cavern club amongst other venues as part of International Beatles week.

I haven't had this very long but already I realise that its just not the bass for me. This is a 2010 model so it has the full width fretboard inlays, vintage tone selector and walnut headstock wings. I've had a good look and cannot find a single mark on it which is unsurprising considering its only done 2 gigs since new. I always find the A & D strings on Ricks too floppy so I've fitted a set of Legacy 45 -105 gauge strings which are apparently Roto nickels in a different box. I will be including the original ones as well. It comes in its case with keys, allen keys for the bridge and original Rick polish cloth which is unused. [s]I'm looking for £1350 which includes fully insured postage to mainland UK[/s]. I'm now going to offer this for £1200 plus postage, no offers and no trades. Bank transfer or cash on collection preferred as I don't want any Paypal charges at this price. This is still available for trade but the trade value is £1300 You're not going to find a Rickenbacker in better condition than this one - its in better condition than some 'new' shop basses I've seen. Now for the porn:

"Real bass players don't use picks"
Delberthot replied to EdwardHimself's topic in General Discussion
The big ****** for me is that I really wanted a violin bass to use with the Getback band but could I find a Youtube vid with someone using just their fingers? Could I buggery. Just those big macho pick players I use a pick for maybe 4 songs in a night and the rest is pure fingers. One of my all time favourite bass players is big Chris Squire and guess what? he uses a pick -
How to get a deeper sound around Bf on the G string from a 5 string bass?
Delberthot replied to molan's topic in Bass Guitars
The actual answer is Rotosound 45 Jazz Flatwounds. In fact the only string I can get a great, full sound as far up as fret 11on the G when playing Hey Bulldog. Play them near the neck and they can be quite floppy but next to the bridge they're the epitome of short sharp punchy bass tones/ Still going strong after 19 months. Currently working out at a pound odds per month -
We're currently getting a few gigs in before we head down to Liverpool International Beatles Week beginning on Friday 24th August which will culminate in the big one on Monday 27th August where we play the Matthew Street Music Festival. Our next gig will be at 20 Rocks in Falkirk on Friday 22nd June - Tickets will be £7on the door -more info about the Getback band available here

yes, I had a D string that the windings looked like they had a gap on them but the others didn't so I emailed Rotosound and got a brand new one through the post. Another long time Rotoflats user - that set of strings is now on my Precision and as still good as ever after 20 months and dozens of gigs
