Time for the mighty Overloaded to return to Behind the Wall, Falkirk this Saturday. 6, count em, 6 new songs including Superstition, 20th Century Boy, Won't back down, Take me To the River, Won't get fooled again and Feel Like Making Love as well as the usual energetic Overloaded set. Its a veritable musical smorgasbord in the middle of down town Scotland.

I always regret not picking up the Alembic Epic 5 string in Glasgow Guitar Guitar a couple of years ago for £850. The used prices of those have certainly jumped. I'll have a look into A bass. I remember a story about the other two Ronnies -Wood and Lane going into Tony's shop and saying "I'll have that one and that one and that one" and just taking half the shop away with them

Surprised this hasn't came up yet. This is the kind of playing that you absorb when your bass player happens to be Abe Laboriel Snr

When August 13th arrives this year I will have been playing the bass for 25 years and have always promised myself something special. I've had a lot of basses over the years and more or less kept buying and selling cos I just fancied something else and I am at the stage where I'd like to buy myself a retirement bass - that is something I can keep until I end my playing career. I've had a lot of basses from stuff that I got for nowt to £3000 jobbies and everything in between. I always say that I've had everything from A to Z (except Alembic & Zon) I'm going to have somewhere in the region of about £2-2500 which would pretty much buy anything within reason second hand and quite a lot brand new. This thread isn't about what I should buy but to give me some pointers to stuff that I could try that I maybe hadn't thought about. I have a list of things that I don't like which includes: Fenders - unless its something unusual like a Coronado or Bass V or even a Precision Elite II Anything with fanned frets Musicman Stingrays Coffee table basses, including single cuts Fretless - much as I enjoy playing them its not a sound I can use live Anything with more than 4 strings Anything beat up, reliced, cracked, scratched, dinged, donged, dirty and so on so it has to be pretty much perfect condition which rules out most vintage stuff unless its been kept in your uncle's loft for the past 30 years just waiting for something along the lines of Ebay to be invented. I had at first thought about getting myself a new Rickenbacker 4003 but I've seen some early 70s and older Fenders going for less on the forum so that's got me thinking about what else I could try. I really like the look of the Spector Doug Wimbish but on that style of bass I really prefer an EMG 35xx style pickup, plus its over budget. I want to try a Wal as certain models are within my budget as are certain Alembics and Ken Smiths. I wouldn't be adverse to buying a top end Ibanez, Peavey or Yamaha either, I've actually always wanted to try the Yamaha BB3000MA and still have a nostalgic look at the Peavey TL5s and Rudy Sarzos that appear on Ebay from time to time . Any ideas would be most welcome. I will most likely begin trying stuff in about 3 weeks time so would like to have a good idea of what else is out there. Thanks in advance

Behind the cloth of this cab was a standard Trace Elliot grill I'm planning on doing something removable myself with my GK combo and cab when I play with the Getback band so it looks a bit more Vox

I began using flats about 18 months ago as I was fed up of the roughness of rounds. I've been using Rotos and they are fantastic and the strings I put on all my basses now. Punchy, growly and fantastic when slapped. To be honest, when I play people do a double take as they think I'm using slightly used rounds. They don't change between out of the box and 18 months later. Still sound exactly the same

I've been using the MB210 combo with 115MBE cab since the end of last year. They are very loud and I often use both of them with no PA support. They produce some serious trouser flapping bass that I can really feel for first time since I had my Trace 4x12". As for sturdiness, I have the combo sitting on top of the cab in the house with their Roqsolid covers on. On top of them is a pair of iColour 4 lights in a flight case and on top of that is a large holdall with all my leads and stands. I'm tempted to buy a couple of 2x12"s myself for a second rig.
-
If you can't find a use for any more than 4 strings then you don't need any more. Be like buying an SVT 8x10" rig for bedroom practice. Nice to have but not necessary

You could try contactingThomann. They don't have them up yet but are usually the cheapest.

Didn't Fender tell Gibson to change the original Thunderbird cos it looked too much like their basses? Fast forward 40 odd years, will we see an actual "Gibson Lawsuit" as opposed to that fake one everyone goes on about in Matsumoku land (otherwise known as Egay) for Fender copying the design that they created to get around the original thunderbird looking like one of their basses? (albeit in the distance, on a foggy night with grit in your eye)
I swap and change basses all the time, so they are used to me turning up with a different one every week, so I think they've given up.
Yeah I'm with you on that one. I've had about 80 odd basses over the past few years so the guys in the bands I play in don't even say anything when I turn up with something new

Played quite a bit of jazz tonight. In other words quite a few mistakes were made by all of us during the night First gig with the Ibanez Doug Wimbish with EMG 35HZs and Roto flats. What a beast. Caught me out a few times cos I've not played a 24 fret bass in a lot of years so sometimes what I thought was fret 12 was in fact fret 10. We did Its My Life by Bon Jovi tonight as a request for the Bride and Groom (amongst about 20 other songs they asked for) so I had the first chance to try out the Yamaha RBX 775. Would've been really good had the battery not decided to die during the song so it was quite distorted. Again, first time with an active bass in a couple of years and my favourite 5 string strings - Warwick Yellow Label 45s. Bit of a funny one tonight. I've had some of my best gigs with hangovers but I just couldn't get into it tonight. The first gig in years where I haven't got that huge adrenalin buzz by the end of the night.

A couple of the Ricks I have owned. A Jetglo 4003, 4000 fireglo and the mintiest green Blue Boy I've ever seen

Finally for now I have a set of EMG pickups. These are active P4 & J4 models, come in the same size housings as the 35xx range but contain a precision layout in one and a jazz in the other. They came out of my Ibanez Doug Wimbish. Some marking on these consistent with the strings being very close to them as you do with EMGs. One of the wires was cut and then soldered together again to get it though the hole in the body, the other was separated at the connector, put back together then insulation taped The P4 normally retails at £69 and the J4 at £75 (£144 in total) but I'll do or both delivered for £80. For everything here, prices for delivery is for UK mainland only but I can post abroad for the extra cost of doing so.

First up I have the clear scratch plate and optigrab from an Epiphone NIkki Sixx Blackbird. The scratchplate has very slight surface marking but nothing significant but it is a scratchplate so is doing its job. Comes with all its screws. Next I have an Optigrab from the same bass. No marks, comes with the screws Looking for £30 delivered for both of them

Ibanez DWB3 Onboard preamp does not seem to be working
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in Repairs and Technical
I might just wire this up with passive volume and tone controls until I can afford a decent preamp. Just going to order some 25k pots now. -
I'm right at the end of my Ibanez Doug Wimbish rebuild and I've hit a snag. None of the controls seem to do anything. The volume is on full but is very quiet and very fuzzy sounding. I've had the battery sitting for maybe a year but the best before date is 2015. When wiring it back up, all had to do was firstly reconnect the red battery lead from the preamp to the battery clip. I'd clipped it to remove it and marked each end so I know I've got that right. I then had three wires to connect to the jack. The first one was the black lead from the battery to the ring of the jack. I was then left with two more, a black and a white. According to EMG the white is the signal and goes to the tip and the black is the ground and goes to the sleeve but this is an Ibanez preamp and when wired that way there is no sound. When I swap the two wires I get the fuzzy, does nothing output. Even if it was a duff battery, surely the volume control would do something and cut the signal when completely off? Any ideas what could be wrong?

Les Paul's guitars and other equipment up for auction
Delberthot replied to EssentialTension's topic in General Discussion
And that's just a small selection. I remember watching a documentary shortly before Les passed away and he had dozens of guitars in cases. So much so that he couldn't remember what half of them were. -
Active EQ pots that don't have loads of gubbins attached
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in Accessories and Misc
MIght give it a try. Is there somewhere online that sells a bag of the bits you need or do you have to source each bit separately?
