1. I've been using the MB210 combo with 115MBE cab since the end of last year. They are very loud and I often use both of them with no PA support. They produce some serious trouser flapping bass that I can really feel for first time since I had my Trace 4x12". As for sturdiness, I have the combo sitting on top of the cab in the house with their Roqsolid covers on. On top of them is a pair of iColour 4 lights in a flight case and on top of that is a large holdall with all my leads and stands. I'm tempted to buy a couple of 2x12"s myself for a second rig.
2. If you can't find a use for any more than 4 strings then you don't need any more. Be like buying an SVT 8x10" rig for bedroom practice. Nice to have but not necessary
3. You could try contactingThomann. They don't have them up yet but are usually the cheapest.
4. Didn't Fender tell Gibson to change the original Thunderbird cos it looked too much like their basses? Fast forward 40 odd years, will we see an actual "Gibson Lawsuit" as opposed to that fake one everyone goes on about in Matsumoku land (otherwise known as Egay) for Fender copying the design that they created to get around the original thunderbird looking like one of their basses? (albeit in the distance, on a foggy night with grit in your eye)
5.
I swap and change basses all the time, so they are used to me turning up with a different one every week, so I think they've given up.
Yeah I'm with you on that one. I've had about 80 odd basses over the past few years so the guys in the bands I play in don't even say anything when I turn up with something new
6. Played quite a bit of jazz tonight. In other words quite a few mistakes were made by all of us during the night First gig with the Ibanez Doug Wimbish with EMG 35HZs and Roto flats. What a beast. Caught me out a few times cos I've not played a 24 fret bass in a lot of years so sometimes what I thought was fret 12 was in fact fret 10. We did Its My Life by Bon Jovi tonight as a request for the Bride and Groom (amongst about 20 other songs they asked for) so I had the first chance to try out the Yamaha RBX 775. Would've been really good had the battery not decided to die during the song so it was quite distorted. Again, first time with an active bass in a couple of years and my favourite 5 string strings - Warwick Yellow Label 45s. Bit of a funny one tonight. I've had some of my best gigs with hangovers but I just couldn't get into it tonight. The first gig in years where I haven't got that huge adrenalin buzz by the end of the night.
7. A couple of the Ricks I have owned. A Jetglo 4003, 4000 fireglo and the mintiest green Blue Boy I've ever seen

9. All still available. I really must get a new charger for my own camera, the pictures of the bass body especially are terrible. It looks almost brand new in the flesh
10. Finally for now I have a set of EMG pickups. These are active P4 & J4 models, come in the same size housings as the 35xx range but contain a precision layout in one and a jazz in the other. They came out of my Ibanez Doug Wimbish. Some marking on these consistent with the strings being very close to them as you do with EMGs. One of the wires was cut and then soldered together again to get it though the hole in the body, the other was separated at the connector, put back together then insulation taped The P4 normally retails at £69 and the J4 at £75 (£144 in total) but I'll do or both delivered for £80. For everything here, prices for delivery is for UK mainland only but I can post abroad for the extra cost of doing so.
11. First up I have the clear scratch plate and optigrab from an Epiphone NIkki Sixx Blackbird. The scratchplate has very slight surface marking but nothing significant but it is a scratchplate so is doing its job. Comes with all its screws. Next I have an Optigrab from the same bass. No marks, comes with the screws Looking for £30 delivered for both of them
12. I have a load of bits that I now need to sell, presumably to buy more bits Fast forward to post two for details
13. Well silly me didn't test it before I disconnected it so I assumed it was working
14. I might just wire this up with passive volume and tone controls until I can afford a decent preamp. Just going to order some 25k pots now.
15. I'm right at the end of my Ibanez Doug Wimbish rebuild and I've hit a snag. None of the controls seem to do anything. The volume is on full but is very quiet and very fuzzy sounding. I've had the battery sitting for maybe a year but the best before date is 2015. When wiring it back up, all had to do was firstly reconnect the red battery lead from the preamp to the battery clip. I'd clipped it to remove it and marked each end so I know I've got that right. I then had three wires to connect to the jack. The first one was the black lead from the battery to the ring of the jack. I was then left with two more, a black and a white. According to EMG the white is the signal and goes to the tip and the black is the ground and goes to the sleeve but this is an Ibanez preamp and when wired that way there is no sound. When I swap the two wires I get the fuzzy, does nothing output. Even if it was a duff battery, surely the volume control would do something and cut the signal when completely off? Any ideas what could be wrong?
16. Last bump before I split it and sell the parts separately
17. And that's just a small selection. I remember watching a documentary shortly before Les passed away and he had dozens of guitars in cases. So much so that he couldn't remember what half of them were.
18. MIght give it a try. Is there somewhere online that sells a bag of the bits you need or do you have to source each bit separately?
19. I'll happily wire passive basses up all day long but I don't feel confident enough to tackle one of these. Is anyone selling these yet on the forum? Cheers
20. I'm looking to do something a bit different with my Epi Blackbird so have decided to have a single pickup at the bridge, blank off the neck pickup route and use the space to route through the back for a battery box and to contain the pre amp bit as well. I'm looking for something that has active bass/treble controls but most of the preamps I've seen have small PCBs attached to at least one of the pots. Space is limited in the control cavity of the bass so I need something that uses standard or mini sized pots but still with a long enough shaft to allow them to be rear mounted. I'm not planning on spending a lot on this so the cheaper the better Any suggestions?
21. Its currently got tapewounds so plenty of thump. The action is quite high for me because of the type of strings as well but it sure is beefy
22.
The only time I've used anything else is some extra long D'addario XLs for my RD Artist for the through body stringing. Had a play with flats a while back - hated Rotos and Fenders, loved Thomastiks. Tried D'addario half rounds and didn't like them - felt sticky to me.
I've tried everywhere for these cos I love them too but they seem to have vanished. Currently I only use Roto flats £26 a set and they've lasted 18 months so far so that's working out at around £1.45 per month currently
23. If my Thunderbird sells and this is still here I'll be in touch. That's a really nice bass.
