It remind me of a Fender Roscoe Beck with Delano Pickups

A couple of times a year I cross paths with a drummer called Alan Brown who is an amazing player who also plays with Bags of Rock which was a spinoff of The Red Hot Chili Pipers. I call Him Mr Entertainment as he's always got good stories from either when touring Japan or playing at Berkley and meeting drumming monsters like Dennis Chambers. We played recently at a 60th birthday of a singer we've both played for and we were both absolutely guttered yet never missed a beat
Either the Gothic or Nikki Sixx model get my vote, as both are made of mahogany like the Gibsons, so have a deeper tone.
I've currently got both and am in the process of doing a switcheroo. I'm taking the EMG HZs that I have out of the goth, putting them in the Blackbird, swapping necks, fitting a normal bridge, painting silver and having just one volume for the bridge pickup as that's all I use. I'll be selling the Blackthunderbird once its complete - goth body, blackbird neck, deep sixx pickups and volume/tone controls.
Once again thanks for your replies. I was pretty much sold on this until I spotted the mb500, so final question (I promise) what are the pros and cons of the mb500 vs rb700? As I'm really unsure which to go for!!
For me its the weight. 9kg for the 700 versus 15kg for the 2x10" combo. The main differences are that the 700RB is I think made in the USA and the mb500 is made in china, the weight, the ability to biamp with GK cabs which I never used and the size.

woops.sorted now.

Just been online and saw these EB-3 in Pelham Blue, Jack Casady in Silver but the daddy is the new Thunderbirds with Gibson USA pickups for £349. They're also doing a proper silver thunderbird rather than that awful silverburst they did last year which is a huge coincidence as I am painting my own thunderbird silver

I have the MB210 which is a 2x10" combo containing the MB500 so a third option. It was a little bit weird getting used to the controls being on top at the back but even with the 115MBE cab underneath, its still easy to get to them.
-
I'm using an MB210 combo with one of these cabs underneath. IMO they are exceptionally good. I can get some seriously trouser flapping, in fact the last cab to do that was my old heavy trace 4x12". I've had 3 700RB II heads and sold my last one to buy the combo. A wee bit different to set up but once it was how Iliked it, I haven't touched anything other than the volume. Easily the best and lightest rig I've ever owned and part of the reason I'm not on here as often as I used to be.
Stewmac in the States sell a dedicated 'knob and bushing puller' (insert smutty remarks here). I'm not suggesting you pay the high price they show but looking at the picture of the device may give you an idea of creating something similar?
The ferrules in the body are flush so I wouldn't get anything under them but if I put the bolts all the way in the that would give me something to pull on. I'll see if I can put something together at the weekend. As far as I know the inserts are splined so it'll be the combined effect of the jaggy bits and the glue that are keeping them from coming out. Thanks for all the suggestions so far. I'm going to have another go at the weekend.

Yeah, I couldn't think of any other way of putting this. I would like to install a normal bridge onto my Epi Thunderbird but seem to have the opposite problem to most in that I can't get the little ferrule thingies that sit inside the body out. I've tried screwing the screw things in and pulling with a pair of pliers but that hasn't worked. I've thought about heating up the metal with a soldering iron to melt the glue but it would probably also have the effect of making the ferrule thingies expand with the heat. I don't want to exert too much force in case I damage the body. Any ideas.

I'm pretty sure they're still the same company like Squier are to Fender and currently being built by either Unsung or DaeWon in China. Epiphones appear on the Gibson website as well as the Epiphone one

I'm going to be tinkering with my Thunderbird very soon and fancy some changes. I'll be putting everything from my current bass into a NIkki Sixx Blackbird body. The body has some dings so I plan on repainting it. I quite fancy using this as an opportunity to fit a more regular bridge. So far I've found the Schaller 463, the Kahler 2440, Schaller 3-D4 and Hipshot A-style. Are there any others that I may have missed? I'm more or less ruling the Kahler out cos I had one years ago and remember it being really fiddly. Next up - what colour?
you replace the wings?
No, it came with the parts that broke off so I glued it all back together and filled in the blanks with wood filler. Its currently primed and sanded. I'm painting it tomorrow in Ford Imperial Blue

When I received this bass it was trashed. Completely broken below the control knobs.

Some basses are only really ever out on loan!

I'm still awaiting that call when the Galveston 12ver will be mine -
I use 000 grade steel wool on my basses. It dulls the finish but if its the best bass you've ever played then what they hay.
Thanks, its good to get feedback from someone who actually owns and uses Ashdown! What could you add to the comment about them being really heavy?
they're 65kg. I'm a big guy and can lift heavy stuff but the sheer weight combined with the size and shape means that realistically you're looking at a two man lift to move it without doing yourself an injury. I used my two 4x10"s with a band that were seriously loud. 3 guitarists all playing at guitaristy like volume levels and it coped easily with the volume, in fact I could've gone louder. I couldn't believe how loud it was
