1. I didn't realise that part of "Come Back and Stay" was slapped until I saw this
2. My '51 reissue was one of the best basses I have ever owned but I couldn't get on with the lack of contour so that's partly why I had the Warmoth built with the '54 style body - which is now for sale
3. It almost got sold or traded but I have seen sense. Its not a megabucks bass but its given me a lot of happiness to play and it sounds the mutts. 4. I've had quite a good year. previously I've only ever played in bands that I was a permanent member but this year I've depped with quite a few bands - partly because I enjoy playing and partly because it should generate more dep gigs for next year with these bands and others to fill in the gaps in the diary. plus its nice to get complements. when you play in a steady band for so long you forget how good your band mates are so to get complements on my playing is nice
5. That's quite common on those basses. If you can get the stud out then fire some glue into it and push it back in. They either don't use glue in the factory or Pritt Stick
6. I could be interested in trades with either cash your way or mine. A headless Status would be ideal but not too pricey, maybe one of the older ones. Failing that, a Washburn Status headless. Let me know what you've got if you're interested.
7.
I thought you two had only just been reunited, were deeply in love and would be together for the rest of eternity. Good luck with the sale, it's a lovely looker
Yeah so did I but its not giving me what I want. Plus if I ever changed my sound there's a chance I could get it back if it goes to someone on the forum.
I have a warmoth jazz in my picture Nordstrands audere baddass schallers. I love it its up there with custom shop fender quality. This by the way looks absolutely awesome. skez
Its top banana as far as quality goes.
8. It is the sound but also the feel. I've got used to playing the Thunderbird which has a really slim neck. I've played 5, 6, 8 and 12 strings so when i went back to a 4 I could pretty much pick up anything and it would seem easy to play but its been a while since I had anything with more than 4 strings so that nice slim Thunderbird neck is what I am used to. The pickup choice was down to my Fender '51 reissue being one of my favourite basses out of all of the ones that I have owned but as things move on I've got used to having a bridge pickup. I don't need to sell the bass but
9. I've come to the conclusion that the Thunderbird is the one and only bass that I want. I've posted a thread in the repair/technical section to get a bit of advice regarding routing for a set of EMGs so I'll see what some people say there before deciding for definite. Anyway this, as you may know, is a very highly specced bass and was a culmination of playing many different basses to find the combination that I wanted. The body is mahogany, rear routed so it has a huge control cavity for adding a preamp (no battery box though). Its finished in gold flake and fitted with a Gotoh 201 gold bridge, 500k caps, paper-in-oil cap, Schaller strap locks and has been recently fitted with a Seymour Duncan Stack for Single Coil Precision bass pickup which comes from the SD custom shop and is about £160 new. The jazz bass width neck is wenge with an ebony fretboard and side dots only. I also specified the gold frets which I believe have something like copper or brass or something like that to make them look gold. It is also fitted with a Warwick JAN III nut for added adjustability. The neck is fitted with a gold string tree and Gotoh BML tuners. The wenge neck is very slippery and if it starts to feel sticky from gigging, simply run some 000 grade steel wool over it and its back to being slippery as an eel. I currently have this fitted with a set of 50 gauge Rotosound flats and it sounds amazing. Nice fat bottom end but stilll clear as a bell. The necks on Warmoth basses are rock solid. This bass has 50 gauge strings and the truss rod is as loose as it will go. There was a bit of back bow when I got the bass back and I mean a little bit but it could have been due to a change in temperature or something and that's totally gone since I fitted these strings. I've had a look for marks and there's only a couple that I can see. There's a bit of paint chipped off on the body at the bottom of the neck heel so you and the audience won't see it while playing. The other one is a ding on the tip of the headstock. One of the tuner screws is missing as you will se in one of the pictures. Other than that its tip top. You may or may not be interested in what made me choose the parts I did so here goes: Mahogany body as fitted to my 30th anniversary Stingray and Goth Thunderbird Gold Flake finish as my Modulus Flea bass had the silver finish and I thought gold would be cool Gotoh bridge as per the Modulus Wenge neck from my Warwick Thumb NT5 as is the JAN III Ebony fretboard with side dots only as per my Bass Collection SB665 Gotoh BML tuners as all of my Stingrays had. Seymour Duncan Stack for Single Coil cos I love Sting's sound Rotosound 50 gauge flats cos I'm a bit of a Steve Harris fan and I love the strings in general I'm going to have to put a price on this which is difficult but to give you an idea, If you were to spec this and have it made today you wouldn't get much change out of £1000 when you factor in the cost of the parts, shipping, customs and having Jimmy Moon fit the nut and give it a fret level. sh*t this is more difficult than I thought. How does £600 sound? I'll say £600 value for a trade but may be able to go lower for a cash sale. I may also be interested in trades of the headless variety or try me. You may have something I like. and now the pictures. I've noticed that one of them was taken when I had the bartolini active circuit fitted but its back to being passive and has two gold knobs
10. After using the Thunderbird for the entire gig tonight and loving it I am thinking about getting a set of EMGs for my gold bass and the relevant routing required but I'm not sure that to do. I have three choices: get the body routed for the pickups and a battery box on the rear Sell the body and buy another from Warmoth already routed for the pickup configuration I want sell the whole bass and start again sell the gold bass and get used to the fact that the Thunderbird is my one and only bass The gold bass really looks the part and sounds amazing but isn't the sound that I have grown used to as being 'my' sound. It was a pain to get it back as those of you who followed my thread will know but I'm not really sure what to do. I've been looking at the Warmoth site recently and was thinking about something completely different. The Thunderbird has been withdrawn from sale permanently and has also been removed from Ebay. I just can't bring myself to sell it. Its too good. I'm still getting used to the Warmoth so its not like an old friend that I feel at one with (the Thunderbird is) so I wouldn't be overly upset about selling it so it may very well be up for sale shortly if I decide to go for the completely new bass route.
11. I sold a SuperFoundation 2x15" a couple of years ago. It was in pretty good condition. The thick thread stuff that goes round the top and sides was coming away a wee bit but otherwise it was it was in great condition. It had even been hired out to the Bootleg Beatles as a stage prop for a TV experience. did I mention that it had no drivers? well it didn't. I think it was a slightly later 1973ish model. I sold that empty cab for £360 so the mind boggles at what you could get for yours.
12. The first series of Telecaster basses were out in 1968
13.
It reminds me a little of this: http://www.effectpow...head-1144-p.asp
It is They're made by a company called Beta Aivin who decided to make a few extra after they made the promethean for Ibanez
14. I would say a million and one times better but yes it makes a huge difference. lightweight, fall apart job on stilts v. rock solid beast of a bridge in direct contact with the body. makes a Badass look like paper mache.
15. I have a penchant for all things sparkly so would go with B
16. these polls are as much use as tits on a boar. I've never even heard the Muse song so can't comment but my top 10 is likely to be different to everyone else's
17.
I'm gonna get the neck and body for my Ultimate Bitsa ™ from Warmoth - nothing out there to touch them IMHO, and I'm after some bling wood in the shape of birdseye maple and black korina. I've got a mate in the US who I can get the bits shipped to who will then ship them on to me - I think some Xmas wrapping paper should do the trick... Shame the Warmoth T-Bird body is such an odd shape around the neck pocket, rules a Super-Fenderbird out... My two main basses have got MM necks, and they're as good as anything I've used out of Corona. The P neck is better than the J neck fretwise, so I think there's an element of pot luck involved (but nothing a fret dress hasn't sorted out completely), but neither are anywhere near what you'd expect for the price: they're so much better. It all depends on your budget, but I'd recommend them completely. I've got a real hankering for an all-wenge J-neck on my black P, too. Mmmm.....
+1 As far as choice and finish go, Warmoth is the daddy for parts. Very well put together and finished. Everything just slots into place
18. Now that's exactly what I'm looking for for my 80s tribute band.
19. CH guitars and Twin-cam on Ebay seem to have some decent stuff
20. Not had the chance to gig this yet but decided to get it out to see what it looked like set up Gallien Krueger MB210 combo and MB115 400w cab
21. Its gone to the great gig in the sky minus handles and feet
22.
http://www.fretlord.com/fretoptix.htm
I've heard a lot of bad stories about those being really terrible.
