1. this is a lovely happy thread and reminds us why we're all here. In fact no you should be practicing
2. Our survey says: X X X I was going to mention the Ibanez ATK basses as the obvious ones but they're 17mm spacing
3. There are only two models of Fender that I would buy but aren;t made The Coronado and the Bass V (no I'm not buying the one on the Ebay thread) Possibly a pointless 5 string but I like it and always have done and would buy one if they made it again. The coronado is just so different from anything else Fender does and looks so cool. Especially all the unusual finishes they used to do like the stripy one that was on sale here a couple of years ago and others that I can't remember. I don't do Jazz or fretless anymore but they don't do a maple fretless Jazz with binding. now there was an attractive bass. Bring back the Elite II as well. Double P pickups. Ooooooooooooh Matron
4. Pardon? You're not having much luck are you? I've posted on the other thread but if you email Gallien themselves they should be able to sort you out. Now's probably the best time as its only lunch time there. try [email protected]
5. Try emailing Bob Gallien or whoever the contact is on the Gk website - they should be able to sort you out with something. Bob's active on the Talkbass forum but you should be able to get something direct from them
6. Quality - let me know how you get on with the Gallien combo. That's what I'm looking at getting
7. If they didn't, people would say "I wish they did this with this". Well, they do
8. Spent years mucking about with different strings. Don't know how much money I spent on them trying to get something I liked until i tried Roto flats. regardless of bass, they give me the sound I have in my head. I effing love them. Really looking forward to getting the heavy set on the Warmoth P after I've fitted my SD stack single coil pickup. Same gauge as the Steve Harris ones without the coloured ball ends and £2.50 cheaper
9. I used to have loads or trouble with regular leather ones. Even really wide ones would cut into me or just really hurt after a while and I'd end up switching my strap to the other shoulder at gigs until I got my Brooklyn gear one from Stringbusters As far as I know its very similar, if not a rebranded, Comfort Strap Had it now for 6 or 7 years and it still looks good as new and comfy as anything. Even with a rather heavy mahogany Warmoth Precision
10. Axesrus, Allparts, Ebay or put an ad in the Wanted section here. Someone's bound to have some
11. Yeah, in fact Warwick among others do string sets E-C I did a 4 to 5 string conversion on a Rickenfacker years ago and tuned it that way
12. Bought a compressor pedal from Lozz the day he went on holiday. He still managed to get someone else to post it to me so it arrived a couple of days later. Well impressed
13. I love it when you're playing a gig and your sound is spot on, the rest of the band are on form and everything you play is nailed perfectly. I love adding bits in and if I find myself in a moment trying to play something that I'm not sure if I can do it and it comes off perfectly then that really fires me up - one of these gigs where you can do no wrong - regardless of what you play it comes out perfectly
14.
Well, I picked up the headless chicken last night and was pleased to find that the neck is still playable right to the first fret on all strings. I wonder if my steaming and clamping has stuck this time. It's been a month. Even though I've got a direct replacement neck should things go awry, I think I'll go ahead with the one that I've steamed. Worst case scenario is that the neck springs back while it's off the bass and having no string tension on it while I work on the body. Things to do - deepen the neck pocket by a few mm (everything's a little proud, pickups jacked up, bridge saddles about as far up as they'll go, can fly a 747 under the strings at the neck heel ), then get to work on making things more comfy at the dusty end. Test that stuff, then make the recesses for the neck screw bushings, followed by finishing (which is not my strong suit, but I'll give it a go). Also getting rid of the head on the pickguard logo is proving trickier than I first thought. I have another plan, which is permanent, but I don't know how invisible it's going to be. Need a scrap of BWB pickguard material to test on - anyone got some?
I tried removing the goth logo on mine by lightly using a Stanley blade but it ended up all scratched. That's why I did this with sticker paper
15. Dave's not here man
16. damn right - Black Betty is a cracker when you try to play it for the first time and realise its that wee bit more difficult than you thought
17.
The plug is not an issue they all have an icc (iee?) or 'kettle plug' style socket as most of us call them so you just use a local version where ever you are.
nearly, its an IEC
18. I've had it tuned up a semi tone this afternoon and it definitely looks like higher gauge strings will do the trick so I have a set of the Steve Harris gauge roto flats on the way. They're not his exact strings but the RS77LE as opposed to the SH77 saving me £2.50. I did say I wasn't putting flats on this but I just can't help myself. i thnk that's me finished with rounds for a long while at least. That video certainly was interesting. the guy reminded me of Chris ( Thornybank ) the way he would say stuff and it would sound funny
19. From what i can remember, they were made for a couple of years around 1999 - 2001 so its already 10 years old. They seem to be pretty well specced and Laney has 'forgotten' to mention the weight in the instruction manual but its likely to be heavy. You'll be paying shop prices for it, does it come with any kind of warranty, even 3 months, if not then you'd be as well getting something in a private sale.
20. its a double expanding truss rod they use but only adjusts in one direction
21. No idea what the cheese refers to but this is a cracking double neck but very cheeky as the necks both have Fender decals on them
22. Doubt it. these necks are rigid as anything. I'll have a gander round the La Bella website and see what I can find. I've never used any of their strings before cheers
23. I'm trying to set up my warmoth neck and was about to loosen off the truss rod as it has a bit of a backbow to discover that its already as loose as it can go. I've got three options: 1 - get another neck 2 - have someone remove the frets, plane the fretboard flat and refit the frets 3 - get heavier gauge strings The warmoth neck has 2 steel rods inside as well as the truss rod (which isn't doing anything in this case) Would getting heavier gauge strings move the neck enough to create some relief? At the moment I've got the just-a-nut raised quite a bit and the saddles are pretty high as well I want to use rounds on this so was thinking about either Power Slinkies or D'Addarrio EXL165 (or 160) Any ideas if this will work?
24.
I have an Epiphone Pro IV. Absolutely love it, the only reason why I won't play it in public is because it says Epiphone on the headstock. And yes, I know, I should be ashamed for being such a snob
Ta da - just a shame that you can't do that as the Epiphone logo on the pro is printed right onto the headstock
