More new Fender models - The 'Modern Player' Series
Delberthot replied to wateroftyne's topic in Bass Guitars
I wonder if this is Fender slowly removing the Squier range and replacing it with all Fenders since we already have the Cheapy nasty Fender Starcaster Jazz junk.
Apparently they have already done away with the Squier acoustic bass. With all the new models that Squier have been producing, not to mention the quality, has this been a test bed for things to come? Another thought; At £400, this is just £100 less then a MIM standard bass so are they going to discontinue MIIM basses or or wait until this range takes a foothold before bumping up the prices of the MIM basses? Do fender really need to have MIA, CIJ, MIM and MIC when a lot of other manufacturers only have MIA and another facility somewhere in the far east? MIA for the top end stuff, CIJ for the next layer down (although arguably better than MIA anyway) and MIC for the entry level Fenders (which will still be bloody good if previous MIC stuff is anything to go by) -
I've aways wanted one of those big bright orange semi-acoustic basses but they're about 2000 clams and I've never seen one close up before

glad its not just me. Yes its very slow today but it has been quite quick at other times Another thing I've noticed is that when I edit a post of mine I get the edited version with the original right below it in the same post so effectively the post twice but when i go back out and then click on the thread the post appears normal
Haven't Fender tried a few changes on the basic shape and have basically failed? I mean like the cow poke, the Slim one (Canny mind it's name) and the aerodyne. Okay all just variations to various extremes on a theme but then arent the majority of basses just variations on the P or J shape? Unless you go for mega pointy, T-Bird or Rick shapes.
Would that by the Lyte? people who buy Fenders want a Fender. if its too outlandish then they won't buy it, they want traditional, zillions of versions of the same bass and 25 different layers from Starcaster Argos special to made like they have been played in a social club for 60 years -
A complete guess but maybe a trial for the Sterling by Musicman range?
i think that most players want what Fender used to produce.
What, Hawaiian steel guitars? -
What are you listening to right now?
Yes it is loud,Bob and Sting phoned me to complain about the noise, turn it down.
He just doesn't like Mondays, that's his trouble. -
It think Fender Fender's design team is a bloke with a few buckets containing bits of card that say things like "jazz pickups".
That sounds like a larf: Precision Body Mustang Neck Mudbucker at the neck Double Precision pickups in the middle and bridge positions We can call it the Fender Shortarse Motherbucker Classic Modified Vintage Closet Precisitang © Then people would say, if only it came in bile orange or phlehm yellow with mother of toilet seat scratchplate I'd be all over it. That's why Fender make 100 squillion different versions of the same basic basses -

Chilis - One Hot Minute - very loudly -
Just sold a Bartolini preamp from Ivan. Would happily sell to him or buy from him again

Thinking that myself - I'll try this new pickup first when i get it and take it from there. And to put you out of your misery its one of these I'm getting

I've been thinking over the weekend as it is now With an extra EMG 35HZ pickup or: go the whole hog and get the a body routed for a set of EMG 35CSs It looks good as is and i think the third one looks good but am not too sure about the second one. Hypothetically speaking, is there anyone on here that could do the routing for this and a battery box?

So £273 for the single pickup squier and £399 for the Fender. £126 for an extra pickup, pot and a Fender decal. Nah If they'd put the Squier decal on it and said maybe £325 then that would seem fair enough. A lot of made in China stuff is scarily good so I'm sure this will be a corker. I wonder if this is Fender slowly removing the Squier range and replacing it with all Fenders since we already have the Cheapy nasty Fender Starcaster Jazz junk. -
The best distortion for me (sound like a whole band)
Delberthot replied to matt_citizenbass's topic in Effects
Possibly any pedal with an EQ of some description. The Boss ODB-3 can get quite distorted Apparently the intro to Around The World by the Chilis is done using one of these. I know its an overdrive pedal but I could never get it to overdrive the way I wanted it before the distortion set in -
Snap!
I've got the power
Yes, sorry^^ i am really busy at the Moment. This bass is so one of a kind that i would be surprised if it is not the one of germany:) Nice bass indeed, hope you enjoy it
It would be one of a kind as it was me that ordered it originally from Warmoth and its came back to me via Austria and Germany.
-
The sc is not so aggressive, is more restrained than the splitcoil. I love them both
Maybe in standard form but my Warmoth with quarter pounder (quarter pounder for sale soon) would take your head off without so much as a by your leave
You're being very tight lipped about this replacement pup. If you're not going with the Lollar (you mad fool ), then I'm thinking Fralin or you're getting something custom wound. Hope it's the latter.
Well I like Sting's sound
-
may i ask, if you bought the bass from a german guy?the bass looks familiar to me
I take it you missed the thread in off topic last week? Yes it was from someone in Germany

The only trouble is that Epiphones don;t come with standard nuts like Fenders. They have stupid big plastic things. You could get yourself a blank Tusq nut as they seem to do bigger sized blanks for Gibson instruments but to save yourself money you'd probably be as well to take a piece of sandpaper and rub the bottom of the nut against it to take off as much as you need. I've never found the nut to be too high on mine but I guess they can vary from instrument to instrument althought they are solid plastic things.

I will be as I am waiting on a replacement for it which should be here next week. I'll try that out first and see how I get on before considering routing the body. I'll let you know when I get it

I'm now giving serious thought to having this routed for 2 EMG CS pickups and a battery box

Well it was a partial success on the gold bass front. Its a gnarly wild beast of a thing. If I remember correctly I had a rack mount compressor and I think I may have to get myself a compressor again to tame it. Bit of a problem in the first set as the strings were rattling badly so I used the Thunderbird for the rest of the set. Raised the saddles quite a bit for the second set but its was still quite rattly so I gave in. Think I'm going to have to spend more time setting it up. the neck is poker straight so I'm going to give it a tweak to get some relief into it. I play the thunderbird with my right hand right over the bridge pickup but there's a huge expanse on the P so I'm thinking about one of two things - making myself a ramp to play over or going the whole hog and getting the body routed for a soapbar bridge pickup. Need to think about that one. I like having the precision sound but its missing the treble bite of the thunderbird
