1.
The sc is not so aggressive, is more restrained than the splitcoil. I love them both
Maybe in standard form but my Warmoth with quarter pounder (quarter pounder for sale soon) would take your head off without so much as a by your leave
2.
You're being very tight lipped about this replacement pup. If you're not going with the Lollar (you mad fool ), then I'm thinking Fralin or you're getting something custom wound. Hope it's the latter.
Well I like Sting's sound
3.
may i ask, if you bought the bass from a german guy?the bass looks familiar to me
I take it you missed the thread in off topic last week? Yes it was from someone in Germany
4. The only trouble is that Epiphones don;t come with standard nuts like Fenders. They have stupid big plastic things. You could get yourself a blank Tusq nut as they seem to do bigger sized blanks for Gibson instruments but to save yourself money you'd probably be as well to take a piece of sandpaper and rub the bottom of the nut against it to take off as much as you need. I've never found the nut to be too high on mine but I guess they can vary from instrument to instrument althought they are solid plastic things.
5. I will be as I am waiting on a replacement for it which should be here next week. I'll try that out first and see how I get on before considering routing the body. I'll let you know when I get it
6. I'm now giving serious thought to having this routed for 2 EMG CS pickups and a battery box
7. Well it was a partial success on the gold bass front. Its a gnarly wild beast of a thing. If I remember correctly I had a rack mount compressor and I think I may have to get myself a compressor again to tame it. Bit of a problem in the first set as the strings were rattling badly so I used the Thunderbird for the rest of the set. Raised the saddles quite a bit for the second set but its was still quite rattly so I gave in. Think I'm going to have to spend more time setting it up. the neck is poker straight so I'm going to give it a tweak to get some relief into it. I play the thunderbird with my right hand right over the bridge pickup but there's a huge expanse on the P so I'm thinking about one of two things - making myself a ramp to play over or going the whole hog and getting the body routed for a soapbar bridge pickup. Need to think about that one. I like having the precision sound but its missing the treble bite of the thunderbird
8. They've done pretty decent single coil precisions in the past for about £80 plus delivery, working out at about £120 delivered
9. That's one thing I would say about the Epiphone- As soon as i have set up my gear at a gig I get the bass out and onto the stand. Bearing in mind that it could be sitting there for the best part of an hour before I play it. I have mostly found myself adjusting the tuning for the first 3 or 4 songs of the night as it settles into the conditions. Probably due to having a very slim neck
10. Bought this for when I was looking at midying my bass but now surplus to requrements. A couple of marks but all works and uses a standard Boss power supply. I'm charging the battery in my camera at the moment so here's a generic piccy £12 posted to mainland UK
11.
Is that a hipshot bridge? Do they make a big difference over the stock three point one?
Yes - The added mass improves the balance and if you believe it, the sustain. i personally do as it sustains for ages and that's with flatwound strings. the third thing is that its so much easier to adjust the height, intonation and even string spacing. They are expensive and you can generally only get them from the US. Not sure how the Euro is doing against the dollar but they're a tad cheaper now than they were a few months ago.
12. There's plenty online for helping you with your setup but the only person that can set it up exactly the way you want it is you
13. deary dear, check out the break angle of the D & G strings There's a reason some basses are rare
14. Guitarist I know plays a Les Paul into one of the combos. Fantastic sound he gets from his too. Plus they don't make them anymore, they make the 6505 or something which is similar but if you want the proper Eddie Van Halen model, this is it
15. Well that's helped me out. I got mine second hand and had no idea it had a trim pot inside. That'll save me mucking about with a volume pedal
16. that part of this conversation has been covered before recently - yes you can get a left handed piano
17. A small shed? Fence for dwarves? Bird cage?
18. Mine's the other way around. i was going to get a cheap volume pedal to reduce the level as its really loud compared to my clean signal

20. If you're going for something different you may as well go the whole hog

22. There's a big crack across the body on the last picture to the left. to be fair they have been steady at around £125 so the price of this one would reflect that. What I don't get are the jokers trying to sell them for more than they cost. They'll never be as popular as Fenders or Squiers and they aren't for everyone but I still love mine and even if my Warmoth becomes my number one bass, I'll never sell it - I'd get damn all for it
23. I think that a lot of high Cs look like cheesewire. Just had a look at the conklin website and their Cs are 0.025 which is much too thin in my opinion and their F is 0.018. What you have is probably the thickest F you could get away with
