1. Some Pink Floyd can be nice and relaxing to play. Comfortably Numb, Wish You Were Here, Sorrow, in fact most of their stuff is pretty easy going
2. Trading is the other way to go. Most people won't pay top money for them cos they're still effectively parts basses however you present them but you're more likely to get more for them through a trade
3. Depending on the exchange rate it can work out expensive. When I got mine the exchange rate was really good so I got what is IMHO a custom shop bass for second hand MIA Fender money. The quality and worksmanship is first rate and the choice is fantastic. Everything fits together perfectly. I'vre just priced up what mine would cost new to have built today and before shipping it comes in at $1008 minus the Warwick JAN III nut. At the time that was around the £500 plus shipping which may have been around £100 by UPS. Where else would you get sparkly gold, mahogany body, wenge neck, ebony fretboard and gold frets in '54 P bass form? Since I got mine, they now offer a slimmer neck and graphite rods.
4. cool. thanks for the confirmation. One thing I like about it is if the neck gets funky and slow, a quick pass with 000 grade steel wool has it lovely and slippery again
5. I'm selling off more of my bits that I'm never going to use. Bass related bits that is, I still have a use for my other bits First is a set of locking machineheads that I never got round to fitting. They look like Schaller M4 fitment and come with all screws, washers and bushings. Brand new and unused. No idea where I got them from or who makes them so £15 posted
6. According to Wikipedia it was a 6 string bass played by George. I'd take a guess that it'd be a Fender Bass VI as they were more available than the Rickenbacker 4005/6 or Gibson EB6
7. Just been having a nosey on the Lollar website just now and see he's brough out a new Thunderbird pickup. He says its wound like the original ones and come in nickel, chrome or gold. The previous one looked exactly like an Epiphone one and was for Epiphones only. This one will do both and he does a wee shim thing to compensate for the deeper cavity in the Epiphone. as the pickup is quite shallow. Still on the pricey side for fitting to an Epiphone ( $416 plus shipping for a pair ) but another option nontheless. The split and single coil P pickups I've bought from him have been amazing so I imagine that this one will be too.
8. A friend of mine had an accident a few years ago and is now paralysed from the neck down. He can move his arms to an extent and wants to be able to eventually play the guitar (he used to be a drummer) he has something on his right hand that looks like a plastic knuckle duster that keeps his fingers straight until he gets more movement in them. That would probably help to keep your other fingers out of the way. I've had a search around but can't find them for sale but I'm sure your local hospital will know how to get a hold of one, and daresay they could probably give you one
9.
Haha Delberthoth, I got lost there for a minute!
Delberthoth? These are not the droids you are looking for
10. The single coil P bass seems to be about the only one that doesn't have a plastic protective cover over the top of it. Does anyone know of anything that would fit over the top of one of these? I see you can get the blank no-holes ones for strats but I don't know if these are anywhere near as far as measurements go I'm going to keep raking around but would appreciate if anyone has ever done this as occasonally I like to play over the pickup with my thumb resting on the pickup
11. Or if you want something really special to celebrate your 30th, how about a fretless 30th Anniversary Stingray? Of the 783 that were made in total I think about 20 of them were unlined fretless. Personally the 30th is the best Stingray I have ever played and a standard stingray fretless is the best fretless I have ever played which should make the fretless 30th anniversary Stingray the best fretless Stingray ever
12. I don't like jazzes even slightly but this is a cracker of a bass
13. Personally the tele is one of the overdue basses. Never going to be a big seller but for people like myself who have always preferred the shape of the single coil precisions and tele basses it'll be a winner. Makes a change from the endless Jazzes and Precisions with very little difference between them Currently showing as £400 from Coda music. When Soundslive get a hold of them then they should come in less than that as they are usually one of the cheapest. Any ideas where these will be made cos this is getting into top Squier money territory?
14. Its been that long ago that I can't remember. I know that it never needs a sealant coat or anything but the pores in the wood look quite large in places. Should I fire some Warwick wax on them as I still have loads in the house?
15. For anyone who doesn't know the story behind this bass - I have had a shed load of basses over the years so decided to put together the best parts of everything. Mahogany body - 30th Anniversary Stingray & Epi Goth Thunderbird Wenge neck - Warwick Thumb NT5 Ebony fretboard - Bass Collection SB625 '54 P bass style - my 2-tone Fender '51 RI was the best bass I ever owned but couldn't live with the lack of body contouring so went with the '54 style Gold flake finish - I had a Modulus Flea in silver so thought the gold would be cool The rest of it comprises Schaller straplocks and tuners, Gotoh 201 bridge, gold knobs, Warwick JAN III, CTS pots, Paper in oil cap, Switchcraft jack, SD quarter pounder SCPB I painted the headstock black, added a decal with my initials and laquered over it
16. As a final bit of feedback here, I now have the bass. The box used was sturdy enough to contain the bass but it had been packed very badly - the bass was sitting loose in the box with bits of packaging sitting on top but nothing that would protect it in the event of a knock. Because the bass wasn't packed correctly, the box resembled a banana and its only a miracle that the bass itself was not damaged. The bridge cover was held on by 2 screws with badly rounded heads, the tone knob was rolling around inside the box, the pickup was srewed right into the body as far as it would go and the strap end of the Schaller strap locks were missing
17. Well it took me long enough and when I did go to take pictures they all came out crap so only the first one was taken just now, the others I took before. 18. its clearly a dinky bass guitar
19. i had the opporchancity to be endorsed by Kustom but the deal they were offering me meant that I was getting an amp for about £15 less than anyone else or I would've jumped at the chance. They sounded really good
20. Rotos. Been using them for a while now but it depends on your flats needs. Some are quite bright, some floppy, some tight as a gnats chuff. Rotos are quite tight but still very playable and not as tight as Chromes
21. You want to see something seriously weird? How about the Foos with Jack Black? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87tQQa2cnuA&feature=related
