Normally on a painted surface rubbing compund will make it really dull. Its used mainly on cars and stuff but I've used it to get rid of small scratches in basses before - just don;t rub too hard or you'll take it back to the wood I use silicon free car polish to polish my painted basses

I did my back in a couple of years ago. Went to the doctor and was told to rest. Later found out that I should've been told to rest initially then to do certain exercises so as a result it took ages to get better. The 2050, or El Dorado to give it its proper name, comes from the lesser known 2000 series. For those that don't know what this model is it has gold Schaller hardware, Bound body. How about midi files? You can add or take away anything. They'll not have the vocals on them right enough

I just need to put my Thunderbird on its stand next to where I sit in front of the computer to remind me that there ain't anything that I'd rather have. Its 11 months since I bought it and probably about 10-15 basses have gone through my hands in that time simply because I wanted them, got them, realised I was perfectly happy with what I had and then sold them.

I can't actually remember the last time I was in a music shop. I think one of, if not the biggest problem with music shops is that they generally (not always) employ musicians. I mean, would a furniture shop employ someone who enjoys sitting on the couch or lying in bed? No, they employ sales people to sell what they have. Yes, you need to know about what you are selling but you can get to grips with most terms and information in a short space of time. You don't really need to be able to play to any great standard to work in a music shop. As long as you can plug it in, make sure its working and then hand the instrument over to the prospective buyer then that's all the hand-on knowledge you really need. That's all I ever wanted when I was going into a music shop, not a slap bass solo for 45 minutes- - which is bound to be intimidating for any youngster who hasn't been playing long. I never knew the difference between LCD and plasma a few years ago yet within a few months of working for a high street retailer, I was the manager.

We did the headline slot of the last day of the Scottish Beatles weekend a few weeks ago and we were on at 9pm as it was seen as the best slot. I think there were one or two bands on after us but it started emptying a bit after we finished.

I've no experience with the cabs but Gallien Krueger are amongst the most reliable out there. Dead easy to get a good sound as well. You might not need the 1001. I've been using a 700 for everything from small to medium pub gigs with no pa support to bigger events and its never been even remotely pushed. For practicing just get yourself a Vox Amplug which has an aux in for connecting an MP3 player or whatever or even a small amp with aux in and headphone jack.

Sounds like you need to practice. I wouldn't ever say that the Stingray 5 had narrow string spacing. Start off slowly and you might be able to see what you are doing wrong.
