Roto RS77LD flats for me 45,65,85,105. the last time I used rounds they were Hartke 45,65,80,105. The only string I have found a huge difference between gauges were with Optima gold. I initially used 45,60,80,100 then tried 45,65,80,105 and the differnce in that tiny change made the E especially a lot tighter and less floppy

Im looking for a really grindy/rattley kinda tone, any words of wisdom ? Thanks in advance!
Er, isn't that the kind of question you should ask before buying new gear?

14 years in the same band gets us: Me - set up my amp, cab, pedals, bass, music stand and a pair of iColour 4 lights with controller Drummer - Drums, mic and monitor Keyboard Player - 2 keyboards, vocal harmoniser, backline combo for bigger gigs, monitor Guitarist - combo, 2 guitars, desk, connect the power amps to the desk Whoever is finished their bit first will help run the leads to the subs and tops and help anyone else. Then we all get changed. Usually takes about 45 minutes. We're normally there an hour before we are due to start despite knowing that 99% of weddings run late by some degree. Even playing in an unfamiliar band normally takes and hour tops. If its new to you then it will take longer at first but you'll get quicker at it. If one of you has a garage, try practicing setting up to see what works best for you so that you all have something to do and aren't falling over each other. I've based my entire setup on being to be able to get in and out quickly.

Flea using his flea bass in the new RHCP video
Narrow string spacing? are you talking at the nut or the bridge?
who you calling a nut? The Epiphone Thunderbirds necks don't taper like a Fender's does. They do taper but only very slightly. The Goth that I have is even tighter due to it having Jazz bass width at the nut -

I think they were set neck but I might be thinking about the Gibson Studio Thunderbird. I'd also heard that these were the same as the Made in Japan Orville by Gibson basses and just rebadged

I used hybrid Slinkys for years before I moved to flats. really good, consistent strings

Flea using his flea bass in the new RHCP video
Iv bought most of my basses, aged 14-17 because someone i liked played them. This includes an epiphone thunderbird, which is probably worse to play as the flea bass
As someone who's been using one as their main bass for the best part of a year I'd have to completely disagree with you. It just didn't suit you. The two worst playing basses I have ever owned have been a Rickenbacker 4003 and a Modulus Flea but they just didn't suit me. I am a huge Chilis fan and have been since before they became trendy. I still list Flea as one of my main influences and the band as the main influence on me. So much so that I have a Chilis tattoo on my forearm. This song is bloody awful and this is going to be the first Chilis album I am not going to buy. They've been a bit happy, clappy for the past few albums and I think that this is down to Anthony. I totally agree that John's stuff is fantastic but without him its just a bunch of tired, recycled, predictable riffs And they will very much miss John's backing vocals as he adds a lot to the high end harmonies. The Chilis are to jumping around to what Lemmy is to standing in one place for an entire gig with his mic sitting far to high -
hi, I have checked by an expert and you're right. I made a bad purchase. I now remove the instrument from ebay. I thank you immensely
In other words "Bugger, I've been rumbled"

They are pretty rare but not far off USA Gibson Thunderbird money - I reckon closer to £500 and it would sell. More expensive than the Epi Pro but less than a Gibson

Why else would you sand then name off the headstock? I've heard of people sanding off Squier to put a Fender decal on but never ever sanding the Fender decal off -
Mustangs are one of the few fenders that I don't know a great deal about but I'd begin with the chrome covers which shouldn't be there. The neck has that nasty pale Bronco look and the sticker on the Mustang pickup looks brand new. Maybe the truss rod at the wrong end and 4 bolt neck instead of 3? The last two are complete guesses

Personally, the Orange Terror Bass has too much bass, even with the bass completely turned down as far as it would go. My band headlined the Scottish Beatles weekend in Dundee last Sunday night and I was using one of those into an Eden Nemesis 4x10". Even with the bass completely turned down, the neck pickup of my Thunderbird completely off and playing right at the bridge where I normally do, there was far too much bass. The RB cabs are cheap cabs but are still pretty decent for the money - how many cheap cabs have Celestion drivers? At 31kg, its still lighter than the equivelant Ashdown 4x10" Laney aren't trendy and I doubt they ever will be but you would have to offer me something pretty amazing to take my Nexus 15" cab from me

Power supply for something that runs on batteries only
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in Effects
That's exactly what I'm after but wanted to make sure it was safe to use something like that. I'm no expert on electronicsand didn't want to use something that might damage it -
More specifically I want to run my incoming Sonuus B2M using my existing multi power supply rather than on batteries but it doesn't have an adapter input. I was wondering it I got one of those connectors that had a 9v battery clip on it at one end that could be attached to one of the outputs on my power supply I could use that instead?
-
I'll add that I've now put my Laney cab up for sale here about 3 times now but you'd probably not have noticed as I have changed my mind within a couple of hours of putting it up as I just can't bring myself to sell it.

If your amp goes down to 4 ohms then you get the full whack out of your amp but most people would say that there isn't a great deal of noticable difference between what you get at 4 and 8 ohms. Plus from what I've read, your amp will run hotter as well. Possibly the most noticable difference I think would be if you were using something with lots of speakers like an 8x10" at 4 ohms compared to 8 but then I have never seen an 8 ohm 8x10"

Either a 4 to 5 string conversion which is easier than it looks or one of the few I have never tried - the Yamaha BB5000. Lovely

I don't know if this has been posted before but it looks like the once mighty Bass Centre with their centrefold spreads in Bassist showing hundreds of basses don't seem to do amps any more. In fact it looks like they only do their own Bass Collection range and accessories I also think things like Ebay and this forum have been bad for shops as well, certainly for me, as we are able to buy something we fancy second hand. If we like it we keep it and if we don't we can generally get back what we paid for it. How else would I have been able to afford 70 odd basses over the past few years?

One off rehearsal with a Pink Floyd tribute!
Delberthot replied to barneyg42's topic in General Discussion
So here I am on my day off watching Pulse for the umpteenth time and loving some of the work that Guy Pratt does, but it's brilliance in small doses, the rest just sitting on the root in very repetitive passages of music whilst Mr (don't call me Dave) Gilmour gives it the beans!
Isn't that Sir David of Coverdale's middle name? I believe he also hates being called Dave Totally agree with you, nice and simple, its all that is required. It is after all, generally relaxing stoner music so a big dirty bass solo wouldn't work ( I am a huge Pink Floyd fan by the way)
