Tonight's gig was at a hotel that we play often but they had us on the stage which meant that everything was booming. Sound was terrible. There were a lot of pissed people who wanted me to die as they kept trying to put their drinks on the stage about an inch from my pedal board. Some drunk people trying to get on the stage and I managed to resist kicking one of them in the chest although the temptation was there. Last weekend's gig was much better. Masonic do so it was raised trouser legs and 'how old's your granny'. They loved us and want to book us again. I'm not surprised as we did it for about half what we normally charge just to get us in the door so to speak. There were a couple of high up ones from other thingies there as well. Had to resist the temptation to do any Grandmaster Flash or that Village People classic 'in the masons' In the wedding band we have to do a fair amount of sh*te but tonight we actually got asked to learn songs that I like. The usual ones are songs that the guitarist and singer already know so it was disapointing when they couldn't be arsed to learn them properly. AC/DC - Whole Lotta Rosie, You Shook me All Night Long. I used Elites Nathan East signature strings but it looks like they don't do them anymore. You need to get the tapered B string to fit the Warwick, I snapped the one that came in the set cos the winding goes to far and ends up round the tuner

How about a couple of Trace 1524 2x15"s and a couple of 4052H brightboxes?

I use an 80 watt Meridian guitar combo. its plenty loud, fited with a Celestion and doesn't rumble through to next door. Although for the last couple of days I've had a Trace 15" 150 combo that i picked up on Gumtree during the week for £60

I had a Gallien Krueger 800RB, sold it and went round the doors with Ashdown ABM500, Hartke HA5500, Trace MK V AH150, Hartke LH500 and Orange TB. Ended up back to a Gallien 700RB II last April. Galliens are not light and they are not flavour of the month but they do sound very good and are build like brick outhouses. They have such a great inherent sound that the only thing I need to adjust is the volume

I had two - A Carlo Robelli and a Tennessee. The Carlo Robelli was the house brand for Sam Ash or something like that in the US but it was made in the same factory as Deans and Galvestons. Solid with a flame maple top. The Tennessee was a semi and possibly made in the same factory as the Waterstones - slightly deeper than those. 8s are fun, I remember Lee Ritenour's bass player using one live but 12vers are crazy mad mental. There is a huge difference between them. If you tune one of the octave strings slightly sharp or flat you get an amazing chorus effect. The biggest thing you need to be able to do is play your notes sparingly - I have a tendency to be all over the shop at times and this doesn't suit the 12ver. Play too quickly and fancy and you'll end up sounding like you've thrown the bass downstairs while plugged in. When I got my 12ver I used it with the rock band for the entire set. I just couldn't put it down. I really wish I'd kept the Carlo Robelli. I will get another 12ver at some point, either another one of those if I can find one of one of the Korean (I think) made Hamer B12s. The Daddy is the Chandler but I'd take a Hamer B12A any day of the week. The last time I heard, Doug had a specially made Yamaha 12ver.

Another faultless transaction for me. Couldn;t have been nicer and the pickups arrived quickly and exactly as described. nice one.

Its quite a small package compared to a guitar so there's a good chance it will slip through undetected. As for the threaded inserts, Neepheid is building a headless Thunderbird so he may still have the inserts from that

I'm still finding my Roto flats are still bright after 3 months and I'm guessing they must've settled in by now so hopefully that's the sound I'm going to get for the next few years. I'm like you as well, I can't imagine going back to rounds again

Not an 8 but Tony Senatore has a fretless [url="http://www.12stringbass.net/"]12 string[/url] made by Rothstein Warmoth can do you a fretless 8 string neck. The main intonation problem that i can see is that if you fretted the note at a slight angle, it would result in one of the notes being slightly out for either a nice chorus effect or 'bag of cats' effect depending on how much of an angle your finger was.

I suppose if you really wanted one you'd pay that since EBMM doesn't sell them separately. Maybe someone with a Stingray with a non original pickup in it looking to put it back to standard.

My GK 700RB II and Laney Nexus 115 does every gig, regardless of size. If the venue is large enough then you'll have a PA. The lightest 8x10 is around 65kg and a pain in the arse to move

To me its just wood and metal. I've owned around 70 4, 5, 6, 8 and 12 string fretted, fretless, solid body, semi acoustic and electroacoustic basses. As I mentioned last week I used to gig with about £6000 of basses and now its about £400 and am getting an amazing sound, great playability and much enjoyment from them. They could end up in my Will or they could end up on Ebay next week.

Oh my I would have one of these in a minute. I hate that garish blue colour, If you're going to make a bass, at least bring it out in a colour that you would expect like blonde or 2 tone sunburst.

I'm fortunate to have been able to own and play the vast majority of basses I've ever lusted after. The ones that remain are: 1 - Fender Bass V 2 - Fender Mustang 3 - Gibson Bicentennial Thunderbird 4 - Fender Maple Fretless Precision 5 - Rickenbacker RM1999 aka the Chris Squire Bass

I didn't used to bother with a backup as I only ever had one bass at a time. Both basses get equal use. Whichever one I pick up at the start of the night is the one I gig with for the whole night. I don't remember the last time I broke a string either but itll be pricey if I do cos both basses have Rotosound flats

Couldn't imagine not being able to play Wishing Well by Free with the rock band. Not the hardest of songs but very satisfying to play. Its one of those songs that you can add loads of bits to and vary it each night while still keeping the original feel of it. The best bassline I've learnt that I only play at home would be something like Siberian Khatru by Yes or The Trooper by Iron Maiden. I'll normally play both at some point if I'm having a play about at home

I was looking at getting one of these a while ago as a light weight solution for longer gigs but couldn't find a decent youtube video of them that wasn't demoed using a plectrum

Its the fretted version of the Steve Bailey. I nearly bought the fretless one a couple of years ago for something like £600 Carol Kaye did play a 4 string one although that may have been James Jamerson now you come to mention it
