A huge difference to be had by using a Comfort Strap. I use a variant that I bought from Stringbusters called a Brooklyn Gear Strap. Rubbery leathery thing that is both comfortable and provides a bit of help if you have a neck heavy instrument. Before this I vividly remember sometimes having to take the strap off my left shoulder and put it onto my right as it was so painful

When I had my Shuttle I used a cab stand. I sat my Schroeder 1212L on the stand and had, believe it or not. a DVD bracket designed to attach to a tube portable TV bracket. The only way to describe it was that it was designed to go round the sides of the DVD/VHS player and attach to the TV bracket above it. Anyhoo, I attached this bracket to my cab stand below the cab and attached the amp to it with the same size bolts that attach it to the combo but since you have the combo you can use the combo bolts assuming they come all the way out. It made for a very neat solution and a handy pointy towards you monitor thingy. Picture of the cab stand when I was using the GK head - the amp sat below the cab

This is gold guys - I don't play a precision (at least not any more) but am intrigued. I think I need to find myself a set of Steve Harris Rotos. the only problem being that I play very close to the bridge so those high tension buggers would be a nightmare to play- are the normal Rotos the same so I can get a lighter gauge?

As Dean of Leeds College of whatever, I can say that those damn keyboard players of Delta house are on double secret probation for their dis-services to music I've recently found out that they've been charging £150 per gig but when it comes to pay time, they show the rest of band the contract which only covers using the white keys. Those crazy guys are asking for double for using those ebony fellows.

Gig bags with room for a small amp head...

You could check out Roksack - I'm using one for my Thunderbird althugh I assume they make different models - 2 pockets that are way huge and little velcro thingy for storing your cables without them getting all tangly -
hmm, .Something to think about - I'm pretty much doing no slap these days so flats may be an option. I use 3 songs for my right hand workout - Phantom of the Opera, The Trooper and Parallel Universe by the Chilis At least Phantom has a bit of a breather in the middle - The Trooper is relentless from beginning to end with those triplets
This place seems a lot more welcoming and friendly than TalkBass.com.. Not that I'm bitching or whatever haha. Just a small observation! I'm very glad to be a new member of basschat! Hello everybody! Nick
Hence why I refer to it as Tallkbs Unless you;re a contributing member, you;re very much looked down upon I go on every so often to noise them up by saying Jaco was sh*t.
I've also been playing for around 23 years and there is no way a beginner can afford £3,000 for a Wal or should even consider spending that amount of money if they are just starting out on fretless. I would not even recommend they spend £1,000 on a Stingray or Warwick if they are getting their first ever fretless to try on. That is why a £150 - £250 Squire VMJ is a good beginner bass. Plus the fact that the quality of the Squire VMJ, despite being very good (yes I have one), is no way on par with basses like Stingray, Warwick and Wal's.
I don't think I worded that very well - what I meant was that the VM Jazz is not merely a good beginner bass - its one that you can use to gig with. The basses I have been most disappointed with have been expensive ones

I'll always argue that if the action can be properly adjusted then any bass can be used to learn and gig with. I've gigged with one of these £40 basses before, albeit not in pink: http://cgi.ebay.com/PINK-Metallic-Electric...=item3f03cef457 I've laid the gauntlet down many times but no one has ever tried to call my bluff 23 years playing and I'm using a bass that cost me £95 to gig with every weekend.

Did Steve Harris really get the sound of Phantom of the Opera using his Roto flats back then? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LDmEVtGF0g And on Killers http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwY3Ftfdy6M They sound mighty round to me. It sounds like my most aggressive finger playing with rounds although I haven;t tried the Steve Harris ones. I have used TIs and Chromes.

I was amazed at the sound I got from a Hartke LH500 and a Peavey 4x10" at a rehearsal last week. So much so that it was the impetus that lead to me doing a trade with my 2x15" for 2 Ashdown Mag 410Ts Such a punchy sound - plus its technically an 8x10" so doesn't get much more rock than that. plus its big and manly
we went ahead and played the beck, bogert and appice version. It suited our style more, plus it was the best and simplest song in our setlist.
now this I must listen to. I love Vanilla Fudge's version of You Keep Me Hanging On I'm off to have a listen noW Interesting factoid - I sent a message to the VF website to find out if they were planning on adding any UK dates at the time and Tim Bogert himself replied to me

I personally ignore it when people say that the Squier VM Jazz fretless is a good beginner bass. I;ve been playing for nigh on 23 years and the two best fretless basses I've ever played have been a 1995 Musicman Stingray and a Squier VM Jazz fretless. I kid you not, if I was still playing fretless then I would happily gig this every night

Really liking that - what a fantastic price I mean, you're not getting it made to your exact specification but a handmade instrument for close on second hand Fender USA money? That's surely a bargain in anyone's book. I was planning on buying myself something nice with the Christmas party night money so this has added something completely unexpected to the mix
My covers band wants to do Superstition (aiming for something close to the Stevie Wonder version) but we're struggling with the main riff - we just can't get that sound. Any ideas on how I could get close on my bass? It's a Geddy Lee Jazz with roundwounds going through a Hartke LH500 and a pair of 15" cabs. I guess I'm going to need an effects box of some description, but I'm not sure where to start. Any (relevant) suggestions would be appreciated.
I see you're getting in early with your Christmas avatar I didn't realise that there was any kind of Synthy sound on there - take it you mean so you can play the funky keyboard bit? It is a very difficult song to get the feeling right, especially since it is quite a simple song

Made in Japan Boss BF-2B Bass Flanger, green label. Very good condition - few wee chips in the paint round the sides and back but not that noticable it you have it on a board. Does exactly what it says on the tin. I have some velcro on the underside but on the edges so as it doesn't damage the label if you're into that kind of thing. The last one went on Ebay for £65 so let's call it £53 delivered Second up is a Boss PH-3 Phaser pedal - I bought this without actually knowing what a phaser did but I wasn;t dissapointed. Lots of sounds to be had from this fantastic wee pedal. £99 + postage new so £63 delivered
On the back of the bass there is a label that says: "Inspected by B.B.SUN". Does it help?
That sticker was on my recent Bass Collection Speakeasy so it sounds like its one of the newer ones although I don't remember ever seeing one in that colour. Pretty sure they only do white, a really bad sunburst and natural
