Nice - fancy one of them myself

This is my minty Trace V-type cab. This particular cab has been very well looked after as for much of its life it was housed in a road ready full flight case. This weighed as much as a family car so when I bought the cab, the first thing I did was to sell the flightcase and buy a cover. I didn't want just anything so I went for a Roqsolid cover at a cost of around £50 which is very well made, padded and moisture resistant so wheeling it in and out of gigs on wet or snowy nights isn't a problem. The cab is in 9.5/10 for condition, even disregarding the fact that its about 15 years old. The only real marks I can see are a small chip in the paint on one of the handles and a small part near the bottom right where there looks like a very small tear in the carpet but you could probably just go over that with a black marker and you'll never notice it. The cab weighs in at 45kg which is still 20kg less than an Ampeg 8x10” and actually not much more than one of their 4x10”s. To aid moving the cab around, I went for the biggest casters I could find to cope with most surfaces and opted to have the front 2 as lockable ones at a cost of £20 for the set. The spec of the cab is 500w @ 8ohms and has both 1/4” jack and XLR inputs and outputs. The dimensions are 74cm wide, 84cm high (including casters) and 36cm deep. I am currently using this cab on its own with a Gallien Krueger 700RB II which can put out 320w @ 8 ohms but I have the amp nowhere near that. I'd be surprised if I had more than 200w going into the cab. The reason I am selling as it is completely overkilll to be using this as a monitor with my wedding band and I don't play often enough with the rock band to warrant having it sitting in the house doing nothing. This cab is incredible, I have to say that it is the bassiest, clearest cab I have ever played though and don't want to sell it but a lack of use means it has to go. Now, as far as cost goes, I am looking for £300 ONO but am open for trades as I realise that most people (including myself) don't have a great deal of money right now. The main trades I am looking for would be carpet coverred Trace Elliot cabs: 1153 Compact 1x15" 2103H 2x10" 1518 Full size 1x15" 1818 1x18" beast I am also interested in getting myself an Epiphone Thunderbird non-reverse 4 or preferrably 5 string These would be all plus cash in my direction. As far as other trades go, try me, there's nothing else specific I have in mind but am not interested in amps or fretless basses or anything with more than 5 strings. If you are interested I may be able to add my coveted 4052H bright box for the right price but will probably regret it as soon as I do it. Postage is steep at £50 but I have been unable to get it any cheaper. I could meet up with you as well depending on how far away you live - for a straight sale I would only be looking for the cost of my fuel but for trades then i wouldn't. The pictures:

Is this the fellow? http://store.hipshotproducts.com/cart.php?...detail&p=69 -
Just had an email back from Stringbusters - they're on their way over by boat as we speak. They're going to get back to me next week.
+1 to that - My Epi Les Paul was a great guitar, but put up against my old Gibson Les Paul Studio, the sound was wayyyyy different. Alder to mahogany, made a difference. Whether or not better, well thats for the individual to decide, but certainly woods and components will affect changes.
That's the whole reason I sold my standard alder bodied Thunderbird and went for the goth as it has the mahogany body. I'm actually not a big fan of through neck basses so may very well get myself a set of Gibby pickups and fit them to this. I actually don't like how the strap button on the Gibby is on the back of the body like the SGs. Its fine if you're skinny but this position leads to the bass being pushed away from you if you've got a gut.

oh yes  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpYL1ZTSnSA That Stingray looks huge on her

Oooh. Looking forward to that. very Funkay

Aafter 15 days, my latest purchase arrived from the US, complete with Hipshot Supertone bridge already fitted. I decided that before i do anything else, I am going to make a couple of changes. The first was to move the strap button to the heel of the neck. The other thing will become apparent :brow:

'bought from the original owner's widow' - aye for about 2 bob probably - 'I'll take that nasty old thing off you dear, hee hee' Possibly a very old refin? The ones I've seen had marking where the scratchplate is where they actually disintegrate over the years so that will most likely not be an original one but I'm not seeing any marks there. And it does appear to be in very, very good condition for a musician's tool that is almost 60 years old - a dog or a careful owner?
-
The seller's been tying to sell that for a while - it was originally offered as the complete PA but he's obviously had litle interest and so has decided to split it. Think the price is a bit steep for one power amp.
-
I am also contemplating a Thunderbird but is my £200 Goth Thunderbird a 1/5 of the bass the Gibson is?
-
I'm also interested in this but thinking that it may be better to record the sound separately and mix the audio and visual together

Thought I may as well put this here http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...=STRK:MESELX:IT If anyone here is interested then I can do the usual Basschat discount plus I am off on holiday next week so may even be able to meet up somewhere within reason to save on the hideous £50 courier charge. All the details are in the Ebay auction but feel free to PM me any questions.

As an owner of a Trace 2x15" I can get thumpy lows and loads of rumble but my sound is more trebly usually and I can get that easily with my cab.

Epiphone EB-0 in limited edition Pelham Blue. Beautiful bass, covered in marks, scratches, bridge insert lifting out of the body - on its way back as soon as they come to collect it. Really disappointed, was really looking forward to this one

That's maybe the problem these days. The world is full of bass playing jessies who simply must have the lightest neo cab and micro amp to cope with their frail bodies. I jest of course. Or do I? :brow: An 8x10" I can understand but I was comparing weights with Ampeg gear - its 20kg less than their 8x10" and 3 kg more than their 4x10" so its not that heavy
-
You'd probably struggle to find a combo loud enough for pubs with no PA support. The only thing I could think of that would be capable would be a 4x10" combo or similar. There is a fantastic combo on here at the moment - a Trace V-type 15" with valve preamp. Fantastic combo but even it needed an extension cab to play pubs. When I had my Trace 7210H 2x10" combo, I still had to use a 1048H 4x10" for pub gigs.

THE worst (bass related) feeling in the world
Delberthot replied to warwickhunt's topic in General Discussion
i remember doing a gig in Tain, up the north of Scotland. To get into the gig, you had to go down some steep steps into the cellar. I rmember seeing my guitarist falling into the cellar - with my brand new Trace 4x10" in hand to break his fall. Luckily there was hardly a mark on the cab. -
Its not too bad. About 40kg. I had to lift it up 3 flights of stairs a few weeks ago and it wasn't too bad. It does help that it has big wheels cos it more or less goes over most surfaces, although obviously not stairs.

no idea but I really like that. (first time I've used that emoticon)

Apparently DR use a different type of coating to what they originally used. I remember having a set of Rotosound Spacer strings in about 1993 which were I think the first black coated strings available - they quickly, over the space of a few weeks, went from black to grey and dead as a dead thing. Surprisingly they never took off

I am considering selling my cab. Its one of the carpet covered square 2x15" ones that were built to go with the much revered V-type valve heads. As far as I can tell it is sealed, the bottom end it produces would suggest that anyway. The grill isn't visible as it is covered in a grill cloth slightly lighter green than the carpet so it looks good and will take something hitting it as it still has the proper Trace metal grill behind it. Condition, I reckon would probably be 9/10 and that's being strict. not 9/10 given the age but I've honestly seen cabs in shops in worse nick than this. Until last year it had lived in a proper full flight case that weighted as much as the cab itself so I sold that and bought one of those waterproof ones from Roqsolid or somewhere like that in black with the green piping. It is also fitted with 4 heavy duty casters, with the front 2 having locks on them. Now I'm pretty savvy when it comes to gear but I don't recall ever seeing another one of these 2x15"s and certainly nothing similar in such good condition so for the first time I'm asking for some help to see about what sort of price I might get for this. I'm not selling it just now but am just wondering how much I could expect to get for it before I make any decisions as I am finding it a bit overkill as a monitor for my wedding band - yes that setup above is what I take to wedding gigs, a rock rig. Its rated at 500w @ 8ohms, the amp I am using with it is a GK700RB II and trust me it does not need another cab to get it down to 4 ohms to be heard in a big pub wth no PA support.
