1. Killing Joke - Love Like Blood was a favourite of mine Talk Talk - its my life ( no, not the tampon advertising 90s one) I never really appreciated TFF until I saw Donnie Darko - Mad World and Head over Heels are proper 80s classics Hue & Cry - Labour of Love. I briefly had lessons from James Finnegan, their bass player I'm sure there are more but I'm pissed and the old brain's not working at full capacity Woo Hoo. Party
2.
Looks interesting..but 120v and a hot valve in a small box is a bit scary for me, especially when the keyboard player spills his lager (as recently happened to my GK combo). I might follow up the FET idea...but I need a tame boffin.
Is that a type of real ale?
3. I found the best on a Precision was a Gotoh 201
4. Found this which is meant to be based on the Fender tone stack and similar to the Alembic http://www.diyguitarist.com/ click on Guitar FX at the top then scroll down to Modified Real McTube II I'm lost when it comes to circuit diagrams so I am either going to buy a pedal or see if someone can build me one of these
5. I think I'll open this up for trades now. As you may have seen I'm after something that will replicate the sound of my Trace V-Type preamp in pedal form roughly. I'd be up for trades on: Tech 21 VT Bass EBS Valve Drive Catlinbread SFT Not limited to these - I may also be on the lookout for a Trace 2x10" cab as well. Not really looking for any basses unless pointy or bright. Oh, and nothing fretless thanks. I thnk I've got it out of my system now What've you got? I've actually never mentioned this but I've been learning two handed tapping on this and it sounds fantastic - helps that the action is super low
6.
I never found thru body stringing made any difference though to be honest - though possibly an argument for another thread!!
here's one we prepared earlier http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=21840
7.
EBS Valvedrive is a Fender tone stack.
I don't really want to spend £200 on a pedal unless its the dogs danglies and gives me exactly what I want. Given my past experience with gear I am unlikely to keep a hold of it - fancy having a go at one of those DIY jobbies as well, expecially one that had 2 valves like the Trace I'm off for a rummage around
8. just got one this very second apologising for the spam from the website - I too got one from Jane
9. If this is representative of the pedal then we could have a winner VT Bass The Catalinbread one does sound good but there seem to be a wider variety of sounds available from the VT bass but then again knowing me I'll probably set it on one and leave it on all gig
10. I've heard that the tech 21 & Boss pedals aren't meant to be very good for bass - what about this: http://www.bass.se/2009/valvedrive.htm apparently it uses a similar circuit. in fact f*** that, its over £200 Cheaper buying a Trace preamp
11. £62 at the minute - they're £115 from Thomann for the 'headed' unbroken version
12. Bumparoony In case you haven't seen it, I am selling my Thunderbird complete with this bridge for £210 delivered saving you £80 on cost new.
13. I'm not big on pedals but one thing I miss is the preamp stage of the Trace V-type combo I used to have for certain songs for grit and mild overdrive. I could buy the preamp version and figure out a way to switch it in and out of my signal chain but was wondering if there was anything close to it in a pedal format. I've never found a usable overdrive/distortion pedal but something like this would be ideal - what about a VT Bass, would this get me there or is it completely different?
14. An ideal candidate for a headless conversion or an overpriced boat oar?
15. 8 stings are more managable - try to play too quickly on a 12 and it quickly does an impersonation or someone throwing a load of plugged in guitars down a flight of stairs
16. Bump before bed - feel free to offer me a sensible amount for the bass if your interested. The deal with the Hipshot bridge is about as low as I can go I'm afraid
17. Just checked GAKs website and they are no longer listed so looks like I got the last one
18. If you're going to be using the 2x15" with that valve amp it will sound proper old school. That is a fantastic cab Why not keep it as it is and get a 4x10" as well? Now that would rock Bugger - just saw the bit about you no longer getting it. You could pair the 2x15" with a MkV AH150. It'll only be putting out around 90 trace watts but you'll sh*te yourself at how loud it is
19. definitely worth doing it now it if its the blue one you want to get. I've missed out on the metallic red and silverburst Thunderbirds so far
20.
I like the Cheap Trick blokes bass sound. Therefore I'm in. Just need another two bass rigs.
some Reeves valve amps and a few Rickenbacker speaker cabs
21. Well I ended up going for one of those new Limited Edition Epiphone EB-0 basses and coupled with the fact that I'm expecting a Goth Thunderbird shortly I've decided to sell my standard Epiphone Thunderbird. Quite a minty example. It has a small surface mark at the tip of the headstock but I think every Epiphone I've seen has that. There is also a small screw hole next to the E tuner for some reason. As you'll have seen in my thread about Thunderbirds being rock basses, you can actually use these for almost anything. I've been using it in my wedding/function band and with my rock band. The body is alder with a maple neck and rosewood fretboard. Net width at the nut is about precision width but the necks on these don't taper out nearly as much as Fenders do giving you a nice close string spacing at the bridge. I also have to mention that the action is loooooooooooow. it buzzes a bit when unplugged but isn't noticable when plugged in. I also have my Hipshot Supertone bridge which I actually bought for this for sale as well so could do both for £210 delivered. They usually retail in the US for around £90 so by buying it with the bass you're getting it for almost half price. Free postage to mainland UK or I'll take £10 off if you live close enough to collect it.
22. Bugger it. I've just bought one from GAK. I'll report back when I get it
23. been after one of these for years but find the usual colours a bit 'meh'
