1.
Go for it. But it can be a bit of a headache when your fellow band members are out of tune[ guitarists/ singers]
that's the beauty of fretless, if someone is out of tune, even if its you, just move slightly up or down the neck to compensate
2. after receiving a question about some of the parts that I am selling I've noticed something odd as well - The Squier body I am selling has the entire neck pocket painted and the pickup route and control cavity have that grey anti hum paint stuff there so there is not a single piece of bare wood to be seen. I know its not exactly the same but I;d never noticed that before so could it be entirely possible certain custom colours were painted everywhere? I mean Fender did some bizarre things like painting over other finishes so who knows.
3. I've now bought another bass so I'm accepting offers of a sensible nature
4. When I saw the Damned & Motorhead last year, the guy from the Damned had a P bass and it was pretty close.
5. Once I've checked out the thunderbird I've just bought it will probably mean that my standard one will be up for sale. It will still probably be a couple of weeks before I get it depending on how quick they ship it and how much they want to charge me so if there's anyone interested then let me know. 6. I recently bought a Hipshot Supertone bridge to fit Epiphone and Gibson basses with the 3 point bridge but I've just gone and bought a Gothic Thunderbird from the US and it already has one fitted. These allow easy adjustment of height, intonation and even string spacing and the saddles lock into place once you've adjusted it to your liking. I'll give it a few days on here and if there are no takers, I'll fire it onto Egay Exactly like this: Finished in black which should suit the majority of Gibby or Epi basses out there. this one is slightly more expensive that the chrome one, although not as much as the gold one. These are nigh on impossible to buy in the UK so you have to get them from the US - Best Bass Gear are looking for £91 delivered plus whatever the post office take, should they take anything so I am looking for £80 delivered. This bridge is brand new in its packaging and has never been opened. Comes with 2 different types of bolts to secure to the bass and 2 different allen keys.
7. the 1818x was designed to be used with one of the bi-amp trace heads like the AH500x so you could feed the lows to the 18 and the highs to the 10. I think it runs full range when connected to a normal amp. One input is full range and the other is biamp, one is 1/4" jack and the other is XLR I think
8. The one I always wanted was BA55 MAN or B4 SSY
9. If only I had the cash I'd be all over this like a cheap suit
10. It seems that most of us are skint at the minute so I'd posibly be interested in trades. Haven't got a clue what for but you can always try me.
11.
Ebay last night seemed to be chock-full of chancers trying to flog ropey JapCrap at eye-watering prices - some of whom really ought to know better! J.
i have no idea what you are talking about
12. The Stingray 5 is my favourite 5 string and if I were to go back to 5 string again I would either pick up an older one (before they changed the pickup) or go for a new Sterling 5. The neck is perfect on it. its not particularly slim but is exactly as it should be IMO I agree that the B string is amazing on these.
13. I think you should really try one first. Its always the case that those who have them will tell you to just go and buy one but I personally love the 5 strings and hate the 4 strings. I never got on with the stingray sound, the 5 being effectively a Sterling until recently. If I was to get one again it would need to be a Sterling. Don;t suppose there's anyone relatively close to you so you could borrow one for a while or even anyone who rents them?
14. Its funny but I've never wanted to be a famous musician. Sure I would like the cash, the endorsements, the screaming fans etc but I enjoy doing what I do at the level I do it. I imagine it would be really boring after a while, I mean how long would you spend writing, recording, touring etc out of the average year? After you've gone around the world on a yacht and done all the rich superstar things what's left? Go on a month long bender or die in a Las Vegas hotel room after snorting cocaine with hookers? I enjoy going out once or twice a week, being appreciated as a band/musician, getting paid, then going home to relax.
15.
i don't understand why the neck pocket is completely painted.
I found that bizarre as well, you would've thought that 40 odd years of the neck and body being pressed together, the act of removing the neck would take some of the paint with it as well
16. The Jazz is absolutely stunning but it doesn't look like it's ever been played Was it because the original owner wanted to preserve it in its original condition or does it play like a Woollies special that's been left in a damp shed for 40 years?
17.
It is an Antoria 2367B - these were identical to the equivalent Ibanez basses, as they were from the same Fujigen Gakki (not Matsumoku) model range, even down to the catalogue numbers. The finish is original, this type of spray pattern appears on many sunburst finish instruments, regardless of era & country of manufacture. Body construction on this is mahogany sandwich, possibly butcher block, with birch front & back veneers. This construction accounts for the black oversprays on the contours, to conceal the lamination.
Always get those two mixed up - amended now So I was right, it is mahogany! I didn't think it was but what you've said about the laminate top and back makes sense cos the figuring in the wood doesn't tie in with mahogany so that makes perfect sense. After assembling the bass yesterday I fired on one of my favourite fretless songs - Boy in the Bubble by Paul Simon and it does a fantastic job of nailing that sound.
18. "it was improved in 2010" well, no it wasn't - you buy a '51 reissue cos its a single coil P bass, Jazz basses are ten a penny so if you wanted a Jazz you'd buy a Jazz surely? When standard '51s are going between £300-400, adding £200+ for work that maybe cost £100 to have done is a tad steep. Especially when I've seen US Jazz basses going for £450+
19. Here are another couple of pics You wouldn't believe how difficult it is to photograph this bass properly. In the flesh it looks absolutely amazing but its really hard to capture the sunburst finish. I forgot to add, I have currently fitted the original jazz pickup cover and covers on the precision pickup that hide the poles but can do any combination of originals on both, as they are in the pictures or black with exposed poles on both
20. Ah, so you think they actually came from the factory like this? I thought someone had painted them on
