1. Why do you want a Rickenbacker? If its to get the classic Chris Squire sound then you're going to struggle. I've had several Ricks and couldn't get a decent tone from them at all. Plus, unless you're skinny, I found that the lack of any body contouring made it very uncomfortable to play as your forearm digs into the hard edge of the body. Another thing I found is that for something hand made they're not terribly well put together or finished. I was unfortunate to own one of the famous midnight blue ones where the paint would run under the varnish making the white binding turn pale blue. I never liked Stingrays despite owning about a dozen of them. The best Stingrays are the 5 string ones which aren't really stingrays - they're Sillouette basses with the electronics from a Sterling (until recently) The closest I've ever got to a Rick tone has been from my EB-3 but with the money you'd get from this you could easily get yourself one of the Gibson SG basses.
2. How about this: http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/...ird-Gig-Bag/DGA I have a standard Epiphone Thunderbird and it fits a regular Fender gig bag. Its tight but it does fit.
3. I was nearly burned at the stake on the Rickresource for suggesting that Lemmy's Rick was a copy and having a Rick signature model made for him wouldn't make sense as he's never played a real one. Just like posting on Talkbs that Jaco was pish I like a larf
4. Its all ready to go If you didn't want the bridge its only a 5 minute job for me to remove it - less than the time it would take you to come over for it
5. Day after birthday hangover bump and probably the last

7.
Tony Goggle.....
I'm his greatest fan - I've downloaded all his records off limewire
8. Wasn't Alec John Such from Bon Jovi in a similar position to Sid Vicious whereby they only wheeled him out to gigs out of his nut due to legal reasons as they couldn't give him the spanish archer? Wasn't it was Hugh MacDonald that played on the albums but they couldn't release that info until they got something sorted out with AJS? Christ I've not even had a drink yet and I'm writing nonsensicle sentences. Ah, well, it is my birthday
9. Its my birthday today bumparoo.
10. That is realy nice but I've gone all pointy in the bass deprtment
11. Back to the top - I now have this on Ebay but its available here until someone hits the BIN button
12. back to the top no love for the Epiphone?
13. I forgot to mention I'd be interested in a trade for either a metallic red or silverburst Epiphone Thunderbird
14. Wow - things are moving fast today - almost onto the third page c'mon, dare to be different from the usual Fender clones
15. Or if you want to be different: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=98146
16. I absolutely love this bass. It looks great, it sounds great and it plays great - but. I just bought myself an Epiphone Thunderbird and I forgot how much I love them. Its almost like it was made with me in mind as far as shape, sound, neck width etc goes so I am reluctantly offering my EB-3 up for sale here. Its done 1 gig which was Friday just past so its still in mint condition. Finished in black as opposed to the usual run of the mill cherry red ones as well. Currently fitted with a Hipshot Supertone bridge which does improve sustain and reduces neck dive but with a decent strap, its not really an issue. I use a Brooklyn Gear strap which is very similar to a comfort strap and I can take both hands off the bass and it balances out almost horizontally. The body and set neck are both mahogany with rosewood fretboard. Pickups comprise of a huge humbucker next to the neck and a smaller one near the bridge. controls are as a Rickenbacker 4003 with individual volumes and tones with 3-way pickup selector switch. To my ears this sounds like a Jazz bass on steroids. It can do deep and fat, honky and nasal or a balance of the 2 for a great sounding bass. Don't think you have to play in a rock band to use one of these - this is my second EB-3 (I fancied a change of colour) and I used this with my wedding band. With a pick it gives the closest Rick sound than any Rick I've ever played. A lot is mentioned on the forum about how good the new classic vide and vintage modified Squiers are and having owned a few of them myself I would have to agree that they are very good but I would have to be honest and say that if this particular bass is representative of what Epiphone are making then they are easily surpassing the quality of those Squiers. This is a beauty with an amazing finish, no sharp edges etc. Put a Gibson logo on this and you'd believe that it was one its so high quality - in fact given the poor quality of the Gibsons being put out at the minute this is probably better made and finished than the Gibson version I plan on taking the bridge off to put it on my Thunderbird but could be persuaded to leave it on for an additional £65. Alternatively, if you are interested in the bass and happen to have a black Supertone bridge then I could do a swap as all the thunderbird's hardware is black. Excuse the poor quality of the pics. I've literally just taken them and I'm rapidly losing the light so used the high ISO setting on my camera so I've included a couple of stock pictures as well. This bass is for sale for £160 which is £40 less than the online retailers are doing it for which is a bargain considering its practically brand new, new strings fitted and a good setup done which you don't get with a new one. No case or bag for this one but I can ship it in its original Epiphone box inside a bigger box for around £10. I could supply a Fender gig bag with it for an extra £20
17. didn't he do those crystals that are like fake diamonds?
18. Agreed - I see slap as a throwaway part of my playing. It never features in anything I play but if there;s a section of a song where we get the audience to sing or right at the end of an extended ending I may use it. I'd love to play a Level 42 song to be able to use it to its full advantage but the opportunity has never come up in the last 23 years.
19. That's a good price for a great amp since they're over the £500 mark new
20. I'm using a furry 1528 cab that's in mint condition that I got in a trade with Thornybank - absolutely love it. I have tried a lot of his stuff and the older stuff definitely sounds better - The MK2 ( I think) combo was amazing and the GP12 SMX 4x12" cab was very underwhelming. I briefly used a MkV AH150 into an 8ohm cab so it would've been putting out around 90w if I had the amp up loud but I simply didn;t need it - I love those trace watts, possibly even louder than valve watts
21. only 9 basses in 4 years - there's been times when I've bought and sold that many in a week. I've owned about 70 basses - 60ish of them in the last 4 or 5 years. I see something that I like even thought there's nothing wrong with the one I have or I get said bass that i like only to find it very disappointing (namely Rick 4003, Modulus Flea, Warwick NT5 Thumb) so it gets sold. I very occasionally buy a bass purely to sell at a profit. I've owned 4, 5, 6, 8, 12 string, fretless, fretted, acoustic, semi acoustic, neck through, bolt on, set neck and so on. I'm not sure if its my style or if I try to get the same sound from every bass I own but I sound like me on any bass so I may as well go for something cool and that's why I have my Epi EB-3. Looks good, does the job and I sound like me. Plus it does the closest Rick 4003 I've heard this side of the Yes Album despite having owned 4 of the buggers. I'm finally happy after years of searching since that fateful gig in the Dobbie Hall in Larbert where I couldn't hear myself so sold everything which was at the time a black Stingray 5 string, Gallien Krueger 800RB and Trace 1153. What do I have now? Check my sig - Gallien Krueger and Trace Elliot
22. That's bloody cheap - I sold my blue rhino one with cover a couple of years ago for nearly £500
