I got a really good Rockbag a few years ago off Fleabay for about £15. Well padded with loads of pockets etc. You can unzip the front bag and use it separately as a mini rucksack if you want to. I don't know if they're still available but that is a great bag for a great price.
That is the Rockbag Crosswalker. I've been using one of those for years. Well padded - its had about 50 different basses in it from cheapies to a 30th Anniversary Stingray. I always carry the rucksack separately as its a bit of a handful when connected to the gig bag

True the exchange rate isn't very good but they've possibly put the prices up in line with the MIMs

It seems to have a bit of a Jaydee look about it http://www.jaydeeguitars.com/calibas-head.php -

Is this a 'typical' Rick sound/tone?
Delberthot replied to blind pilot's topic in General Discussion
I've had several Ricks and the closest live sound I've been able to get is with my Epiphone EB-3 played with a pick. -
And now someone i can talk about positively. JD was the person that made me want to play the bass when I was 11. All other songs I'd heard up until that time had been done by bands but with Queen, It was the first time I'd listened to the individual musicians. I totally agree that you can't have Queen without Freddy, just like you can't have Queen without JD, Roger or Brian. I remember when they did the Tribute concert that almost every single key had to be changed cos no one could sing the original unless they got a female vocalist in. JD started off with a Rick - It may have been a 1999 before moving onto the familiar Ps with the occasional Stingray, Buzzard, Single Coil P Bass and Telecaster Guitar during the Hot Space Tour. When they were recording A Night At the Opera, either Brian or JD thought that '39 would sound good with a double bass so John went out and bought/hired one and learned to play it just for that part. Some fantastic playing on album tracks such as Dragon Attack and Millionnaires Waltz amongst others. I was a huge Queen fan and can still remember all their middle names and of course, Freddy's real name. Ii was a complete Queen anorak. I first heard Queen at Live Aid and totally got into them when I saw the Live At Wembley 1986 gig. Queen were a phenomenal band and Paul Rodgers is a phenomenal singer but they do not go together at all. Brian got on my goat when he remixed all the Queen albums and turned his guitar up on every track, sometimes over Freddy's vocals.
Most pertinent observation of the thread (pace Scalpy's keenly observed piece. And a few others). Crikey is rather a fine word and sadly under-used. I'd welcome the reappearance of such alternative exclamations as: Jings, I'm surprised I haven't received ...etc Man alive, I'm surprised I haven't received ...etc Lordy Lordy, I'm surprised I haven't received ...etc Jakers, I'm surprised I haven't received ...etc God's blood, I'm surprised I haven't received ...etc Great Caesar's Ghost, I'm surprised I haven't received ...etc Damn your eyes, Sir, I'm surprised I haven't received ...etc
You have a glaring ommission from your list my good man - the lovable cockney phrase sometimes used by myself for no apparent reason of either "Cor Blimey Guv'nor" which can be substituted with "Cor Lumme Guv'nor". I'm off out for a spot of late lunch, a matinee showing at the local cinematorium and possibly a yard of ale. this will be followed by some kind of 'fast' food involving the lower end of the quality meat spectrum, an indiscriminent sauce and some fancy footwork to compensate for the world spinning off its axis as is the way after several alcoholic librations
Whatever you think about the man now, he was certainly one of the pioneers of electric bass and should be accorded due respect for that alone, quite apart from his well-documented songwriting skills. IMHO.
I once had a Pioneer Stereo and it was sh*t. Accept the fact that not everyone likes him and not everyone want to be a brown nose toward him- I don't like him as a bass player, guitar player or any other player
-
I stand by my statement - utter sh*te. I don't rate him at all, c'mon his solo stuff after the beatles was rank rotten and I don't really rate much of the beatles stuff at all. Regardless of who was influenced by who, personally I don't buy into that crap at all. Unless you go out to intentionally copy someone then you have your own style. I may have a fretless but one mention of Jaco has me sleeping. I may have an EB-3 but I'm not trying to be Jack Bruce. I have a hangover today so am not in a particularly good mood so please - I cannot stand the guy and that is my personal opinion, you don't have to like it or try to argue it.
-
I forgot to add - the Frog Chorus? Silly Love Songs? Simply Having A wonderful Christmas Time? what utter sh*te.
-
William Shears Campbell to give him his correct name is a dick. I've never understood the appeal of his dull muffled basslines. The Rickenbacker nuts go crazy about his sound but it sounds as dull and muffled as it did when he played his cheap Gibson EB-1 copy. He is an arrogant twat and I for one have learned nothing from him - a bit like Jaco to me - as soon as someone mentions him I get very tired.

I'm pretty sure the bass player from Ska Face (who are from Blackpool) is a member here but I am having trouble locating him. I'm just back from blackpool and we saw them last weekend at the Venue in Cleveleys. They were absolutely fantastic. One of the best bands I've heard in a long time. Drunk as a skunk (me that is) but loved the show. Are you here Ska man? Cos I want to know what bass you have - it was a bizarre Epiphone looking beautiful sounding ska bass
-
I'm thinking Dean or Peavey Palaedeum - doesn't look anything special. A JPJ custom bass should be a dual course 12 string bass, at least JPJ in the modern sense, otherwise its a Jazz

What kind of strings do I need for my 6 strings fretless bass
Delberthot replied to afuneraloffire89's topic in Bass Guitars
I used Ti flats on mine but it was active. i think a passive 6 would sound sh*t with flats -
Funnily enough I discovered this site on Talkbs as well.

Has your bass playing ever gotten you...
Delberthot replied to teen t-shirt's topic in General Discussion
I've been with my wife now for 10 years but before that I did manage to pull a fair few girls over the years. The funniest was a trainee dental nurse at a wedding. The keyboard player offered to play the bass part to a couple of songs so I could have a dance with her at a slow song. By the end of the song you we were standing snogging in middle of the dance floor which had by this time cleared. We went out on a few dates and the subject of age came up. She thought I was about 19 and I thought she was as well - I was 23 and she was 17. She was the double of Billie Piper and probably about the same age at the time. That was in the middle of my run of going out with younger girls - I started off with a 19 year old then 18, 17, 16 and then I gave myself a shake as I didn't like where this was heading and met my wife the year after who is 4 years older than me -
you would think that someone who has 260 feedback points would know how to work things like putting pictures in the listing and the fact that if he really wanted to use Parcelfarce he can calculate postage online or with almost any other courier as well. Why does the picture have the neck there? I thought he didn;t have it?

I've owned both Terror Bass and GK 700RB II I found the TB to be a very dark sounding amp which I found difficult to get a giggable sound from. the EQ is very limited. I'm a fan of simple controls so at first I liked the fact that this amp only had a couple of tone controls but I didn;t seem to be able to get anything useful from it. The GK on the other hand is uter bliss as far as amps go - I'm on my third one due to GAS. I'll see something that I want to try so the GK gets sold only for its replacment to be sh*te so I end up buying another. After I sold my TB I immediately bought another GK 700 and took it to a gig without touching anything. This amp allows you a great deal of control over your sound but its inherent sound is fantastic so just a tiny bit of tweeking is required to get you exactly the sound you want. I've used a GK with the following cabs: Trace 1153 Trace 1153H Trace 1524 Trace 1528 Trace 1248H Trace 1518 Schroeder 1212L Ashdown 115ABM Peavey 410TX Behringer BA410 I couldn;t even begin to list all the basses I've used it with but there's as varied a selection as you're likely to use from a Warwick Thumb NT5 and Modulus Flea to cheap/free basses and onto my current Epiphone EB-3 IMO there isn;t anything better than the GK for giving such a fantastic, versatile, useable sound. Personally the 1001 is overkill as the 700 puts out 480w into 4 ohms. I'm using mine with an 8ohm cab so I'm getting about 300w and that's for all gigs including ones without PA support and its absolutely nowhere near its limit, in fact its just ticking over.

The Clevinger was the first one I heard being used by Nathan East and it does sound good. When I was 17 I used to carry the School's DB 2 miles from the school to my house and I still have vivid memories of how heavy that was. One of my biggest concerns with gigs is going to be the transporting of it and whether or not I can fit it in my car
-
fantastic amp with fantastic preamp valves fitted not long before we traded. I concur with Mert, the absolute best combo you are ever likely to play through. capable of some monumental sounds. Add an extension cab and this'll do a full volume rock gig with no PA support easy peasy. By the way, my wife was wondering how much for the Chewbacca on top of the combo.

Before I begin I am in no way dissing these, I would truly like to understand them. I play electric bass both fretted fretless. They sound like electric basses. I am contemplating my first double bass as I really like the sound and can think of several sections it could fit into my current band as well as open up opportunities for other work. It sounds like a double bass. I don't get the EUB. It doesn't really sound like either, it has a sound of its own. When I think of the type of sound Tony Levin gets, it sounds a bit like a bit like a slow fart for want of a better term. If you play one, do you play it because it has a sound of its own, because you can't afford or want to try a double bass or some other reason?
