1. I'm in the middle of defretting a Squier Precision Special and I've found the build quality to be excellent. I bought it used on the forum for £80. I originally bought it to try my hand at properly defretting and epoxying a bass neck but I'm really getting into it and have decided to make this a cheapy project to be my main gigging bass
2. pity you won't consider posting the 8 string or I would ptobably have had that
3.
Bump, Make me an offer, no trades - Collection only. I will take 200 if collected minus the gig bag and book.
bugger.
4. Gotoh's are they? I've only ever had that happen once before and it was a set of Gotoh resolites I was installing
5. corrosion or dirt? corrosion - If the plating's coming off then you can get the parts replated. dirty - soak the parts in cheap cola for a few hours, dunk them in water then dry thoroughly
6. A battery in my stingray would generally last anything up to a year before I changed it which I then put in my tuner which would last another year, so yes, it looks like there's some kind of permanent circuit happening which is causing the battery to be constantly on
7. This is a bargain for what looks like an 'as new' bass that has been setup and has brand new strings fitted
8. If the bassline is instantly recognisable then I will play it exactly like it should be played, ditto if I think that a bassline is so good that to change it would ruin the song. The song should still sound like the original but if the original was bland then I will add what I think will improve it - Daydream Believer by the Monkeys which we still get asked for is an example where it is really dull and boring so we pep it up a bit to give it more impact. I normally focus improvs at parts where there isn't reallything happening as regards vocals or guitar solos etc. That said I do a slap bass bit at the drum break of Do You Love Me by the Contours It is easy to get carried away sometimes as the drummer and I have been playing in bands for years and he is very talented. 9 times out of 10 the audience won't notice as long as it isn't completely noticable that the song sounds terrible due to someone playing utter garbage
9. Ah, is that one of the new Squire Startocastors modelled after the original Fedner Precission Base guitars?
10. That's a classic C&W bass - light blue, maple board, perloid or whatever its called plate, classic Precision style, rhinestones on the shoes and a big cowboy hat i can picture the confederate flag sticker on the case now
11. country and western player? They're usually big on that type of scratchplate material
12. I've just bought a Squier Bronco of Ebay to see if I like shortscale. I've always been intrigued with shortscale basses but haven't really played one for long enough
13. yeah, they're a wee bit pricey http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_trk...-All-Categories
14. Bought one from him and waiting for it to arrive. I thought I'd order the longer one (he does 2 different sizes) I've decided in the end to make the lines invisible and am just working out what to do with top facing lines as the dots on the top will now be out as the show the middle point of 2 frets instead of on the fret which is what I need now.
15. Thanks. I'm doing this at my own pace so I've plenty of time I;ve taken the frets out and filled them. Once my radius sanding block arrives I'm going to sand it smooth and use the Liberon ebony wood dye I've had lying around for ages for such a project. Once its as dark as I want it I've got burnishing cream to clean up the board and make the front dots visible again. I'm not sure what the stage is after that before I put the epoxy on - lemon oil, denatured alcohol? I'll need to have another rake about.
16. The Lollar I had in my last Precision worked perfectly with distortion but they are wound similar to the original so if not a lollar then one of the SPB-1 or SPB-2 or anything more conventional
17.

is this one of these Captain Beefheart Shreds Youtube videos?
18.
heheh, or… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OxhuQWKwbqY
That was very entertaining - always wondered what happened to Buster Bloodvessel
19. If you want the best bass combo then you're going to have to buy a Trace V-type. Not your average ladies lightweight, I'll have half a shandy combos there, just pure grunt and one of the best sounds I have ever had, certainly the best of any combo I've used: 1) Twin valve preamp - none of your pretend one valve warmth nonsense or Ashdown grind knob - this will overdrive to buggery 2) Its a Trace Elliot so its louder than it says it is and reliable as they come 3) It has one of the simplest but easiest to get a fantastic sound preamps I've ever used 4) Linking a 1518 cab to it will have the back of your trousers flapping 5) Its manly )0 it has a line in for your iPod There are others who will back me up on this but this is, of course, my own personal opinion on combos.
20. Parcelmonkey as long as its not too big although they do eff it up occasionally but three times out of about 40 shipments isn't too bad. Interparcel for bigger stuff but also try out click4parcels. I recently sent a humungus wheeled flight case for a 4x12" down south for £41. Interparcel wanted around £60 due to the size.
21. back in the day I ran a 7210H GP7 combo with a 1048H. It was only putting out 200w put it was plenty. More recently I ran a series V AH150 at 8ohms so it would've been putting out about the same as your combo on its own - I was using a 4x12" however so I actually had far more volume available than I needed.
22. For me personally I can get Bruce's tone with anything. We do Town Called Malice and I've played it With many different basses - most recently a VM Jazz fretless and I can still get it. I have my bass setup so that if I play lightly, or normally as most would say, my bass sound sounds normal but when I dig in a bit I get a really dirty, aggressive tone - even with a fretless Oh and I play it with fingers as well I've got to give it plenty to get the sound right though for this tune.
23. sounds like the odd speaker is rated much lower than the rest and is about to pack it in. They should be moving by about the same amount.
