1. I haven't seen that jaco one in a long time. That's really funny - I'm pissing myself laughing here and trying to no wake my wife
2. I've listened to all or part of Fragile by Yes nearly every day for the past 5 years. Siberian Khatru and South Side of the Sky are in my all time top 10 along with I know what Like and Carpet crawlers by Genesis
3. Exactamundo - the much overhyped JV series. To have the large Fender / Small Squier logo the serial number will begin JV0*** as generally anything with JV1*** or higher wil have had the logo switcheroo by that point. I owned a precision with a serial of JV13*** and it was nice. Perfect condition, rolled fingerboard edges but I didn't see what all the fuss was about. This was before they were going for megabucks - bought it on Fleabay for £200, used it for a gig then fired it back on and doubled my money I think the reason they changed the logo around is that they were literally too good and better than the MIA Fenders at the time so Fender wanted people to know that they were the cheaper alternative to the 'superior' Fender product. The Fender execs were literally in tears as the Japanese models were far superior in every way to the pish coming out of the US factory. There are Japanese Fenders from this period that I have seen with sellers trying to pass them off as Squiers as the Squier seems to be worth more than the Japanese made Fender from the same period A nice little slideshow of the one I had: http://img179.imageshack.us/slideshow/play...5183053vbj.smil
4.
Well, that Alembic is something special! I've had the hots for an Alembic for as long as I can recall, and that one just makes me want one even more! As with my earlier post, why the move from a 4-String to a 5-String?
so you can play all the Jaz Lochrie stuff that he does with Paul rodgers of course
5. I'm using a Squier VM Fretless Jazz exclusively for everything. I currently have no intention of changning it for anything
6. I've been after one of these for a while now just to try but am unsure what I would be willing to trade as I'm happy with everything I have at the minute some sort of a guide price would be handy to help with what to offer as a trade
7. I've checked out a link here on how to defret and epoxy a bass and am planning on giving it a try but need to source a couple of things first. I'm looking for some proper wood inserts to go into the slots left after I remove the frets to make it an obvious lined fretless - or should I just plastic wood them to save time and hassle? I'm also after a radius sanding block so I can level the fretboard/fingerboard/whatever after I've filled the fret slots and during the epoxy process - I can see them on Stew Mac's website but is there a Uk source for one? - I believe that modern Fenders are 9.5 radius so a Squier should be the same Once I'm all prepared I'll post the results as I go
8. Bought this with the intention of modding it but its doing my box in so I would like to get rid of it as it is just taking up space. I bought it brand new from GuitarGuitar for £279 and its never been out of the house I'll post some pics tomorrow but what you get is the complete body and neck with black GB7 type tuners - the pickups, electronics and back plate have gone walkies - I have the nut and bridge but don;t know if I have screws for the bridge or not but I'll have a look There are a few marks on the body and a chip next to one of the pickup cavities and its one of the white ones. Not something I would post in the basses for sale as I just want rid of it before I do a London Calling round the back of the house. I'm not going to post his but would like to swap it for something that doesn't have to be bass related to make it interesting - cuddly toy, his & hers matching luggage, weekend for two in February etc. What've you got?
9. well I've just watched 'the top ten rock bands' on VH1 and number one were the Rolling bloody Stones . Ironically number 2 were Led Zeppelin who trounced them during the 70s Only reason you hear great things about the Stones is that they are the only band still going: 60s = Beatles were huger than the Stones but 2 of them are dead and the Stones are still going; 70s = Led Zepp were huger than the stones but their drummer died and the stones are still going. Apparently next years tour is going to be called the 'Steel Wheelchair' tour. What? I don't like the stones :snob: One last thing - who's Lauren Laverne? Is that her of Laverne and Shirley fame?
10. How's about a replacement neck for the Jazz but something a bit higher end than a mighty mite since you;ve got the cash? You can pick up necks from Ebay sellers such as ReliableFender and others in the US who get brand new or nearly new basses and take them apart to sell them bit at a time so you can still have an original Fender neck on it That way if you find you don't like it, you've still got the original neck to keep it stock in the event of having to sell it. My favourite 2 fretlesses have been my Squier VM Jazz and a mid 90s 3-band Stingray. Both sounded fantastic, both completely different although I can get the 'wherever I lay my hat' tone on the Jazz even though it was done on a Stingray
11. Trace Elliot 1524 + gym membership
12. I worked out that after all my wheeling and dealing, my Trace 2x15", 4052H, GK700RB II (bought brand new) and Squier VM Jazz Fretless cost me about £200 in total.
13. The only thing I ever used on my wenge neck was steel wool when it got a bit gunky - part of the reason for using wenge was that it was very fast with no finish
14. I could put you in contact with someone who would be interested for the right price :brow: with my record of basses I'd probably end up selling it back to you in a few months time anyway
15. possibly due to the fact that there are relatively few about. Similar thing happened to me when I had the chance to be endorsed by Kustom - nobody seems to own them or even own up to owning them so I had to pass on the offer cos I don;t want to be endorsing something that might be crap. If it was a more popular brand that everyone talked about then you'd have sold it by now but some won't have heard of them or just may not have had the chance to try one. Not saying its a bad brand, I've heard good things about them, just that GAS is usually fuelled by likeminded people talking about something and that makes others want it as well and go out looking for it It is a pisser - you might have to sell your EB-1 if you can;t find a buyer for your amp
16.
If somebody posts about a bass I'm bidding for on Ebay, (which they have), I have to congratulate them on their good taste in instruments, not get my knickers in a twist.
I don't know what you're preferences are but I don't wear knickers thank you very much. I know that there will be others who are likely to already be watching something I am but they've actually bothered to find it themselves. How could you PM someone to ask them not to bid on something if you don't know they're planning on bidding for it?
17. I remember there being a thread done a few months ago about people who post threads telling us about stuff that's for sale on Ebay where there's bidding involved and not Buy It Now stuff. There are very few bargains to be had on Ebay these days and I for one get annoyed when there is something I am watching with the chance of getting something cheap appearing on a thread here. The reason I get annoyed is that I have gone to the trouble to look through the listings and find stuff myself. As soon as its posted on here then its open to all 10000+ members on here as well as Google etc. Buy it Now auctions are fine as whoever hits the BIN button gets it, not the highest bidder. The same goes for auctions that have already finished and looked suspect or contain something that we can all have a laugh about. Ebay is open to everyone so its not like I have a monopoly on bargains but its the fact that I've gone to the trouble to rake through the crap to find something I like only to have someone on here tell everybody about it which invariably leads to pushing the price up. It is handy for letting people know what is out there but if you know someone that is looking for something in particular then PM them about it. My intention here is not to start an argument and for a while we were only posting BIN auctions on here but now seem to have started posting lots of "this is cheap, I wonder what It'll go for?" type threads - the answer is that chances are it will go for more now that you've mentioned it than if you had waited until after it to tell everyone what a bargain someone got. I can understand that someone has seen something that looks like it will end up as a bargain and want to tell everyone but can't you resist the temptation until after the auction finishes? What does everyone else think, am I wrong here? Its one of the few things on the forum that really f*** me off - in fact I think its the only thing
18. Know exactly what you mean - after 70 basses I have come to the conclusion that I sound like me Every bass I've ever owned has the ability to make me sound like me or it could be my playing style that makes me sound like me. These days I buy basses for a change, something a bit different and to try basses I've never had the chance to try before. I've always had a love of fretless and am going through one of these phases right now. I'd like to keep this one even if I go back to fretted cos it is a very comfortable bass. I may get another 5 string, maybe a 6 an 8 or a 12. The latter most likely after I see Cheap Trick in November as I've forgotten how hard it is to play anything remotely hard on them without it sounding like I've thrown the bass down a flight of stairs while plugged in. f*** it is what I say - if you see something you like, buy it, play it and then sell it when you see something else you like
19. I don't think that they will ever go up in value like JV Squiers etc but the fact that there are relatively few of them could add to the value if someone was really desparate to have one. The average person looking for a violin bass is going to go with a Hofner or Hofner clone. Even Epiphone themselves abandoned this model to go with a Hofner clone I've never tried one but its on my list of basses to try so I am serious about taking it off your hands if you decide not to keep it for the right price obviously. I expect it to sound a bit lighter than an EB-0 due to the smaller mass of the body and so for than I think more people would go for the EB-0.
20. I think this was the one between the TNT150 and the Databass - the TNTs usually go for £100 ish and the Databass just over £200 so the previous quote should be about right. They are worth more but there's so much lightweight stuff around these days that people are abandoning the older heavy duty gear - except me
21. There used to be a Skoda Estelle painted like a cow that you could see at the side of the road on the way to Weegieland
22. Jeff Rath over on Rickresource is your man - he's had a fair few of them They made a Glen Frey 2030 at one point as well or that could've been the 2080.
