In case a 5 takes your fancy, until recently the SR5 was technically a Sterling - same pickups and electronics, switching etc until the 5 string Sterling came out and they modified the SR5 to include the correct Stingray gubbins. I've never had a bad Stingray, I'm just not into them right now - if you want the king of Stingray trans colours then you want a 30th Anniversary, complete with mahogany body - none more growlier than this beast.

I have to say that I detest Jaco looking basses. I had one of these before and sold it cos it looked hellish but with the scratchplate it makes it look completely different. I had been thinking about doing the switcheroo as well to get rid of the sunburst but its growing on me If you did switch necks you could fire it on Ebay and say that you found it in your uncle's loft so could be a rare one off prototype or similar BS to that. You'd only really make your money back if you bought both second hand I think. I haven't tried any of the new MIM Fenders but I've hated every single one I've owned. The new ones are meant to be really good but they're approaching second hand MIA money now.

I'm very happy with my/your/Moos3h's Squier VM Jazz. It sounds almost exactly how I want a fretless to play and sound. I like it so much in fact that I'm going the whole hog on a proper setup with Tusq nut and Badass II to get the action perfect. I have thought about changing pickups and electronics but seriously, on a bass that cost me less than some of the pickup/electronics upgrades out there, is it really worth it? I'm going to do the series/parallel mod as I already have the parts for something a bit different. I've only had it a couple of weeks and have been thinking if it would be worth finding something better and keeping it for a backup but I can't find anything that I would consider to be a lot better than this is without spending twice, three or four times the money. I've already got the action pretty low but I haven't spent a great deal of time on it. Last saturday I got the exact tone for 'wherever I lay my hat' which is impressive considering it a different bass. Thornybank has a fretless bass that is set up to perfection but I couldn't bring myself to buy it as I couldn't justify the cost which is a shame cos its a peach.

nah, I meant Hofner copied the Gibson EB-1. They made them out of cheap plywood as budget basses. If it hadn;t been for a certain Liverpudlian, chances are that no one today would've remembered about them cos they'd have probably gone out of business long ago and that crazy German dude might have got his £3000 for the 'first' bass
-
Well they did copy the original design and make it out of plywood as a cheap copy of the 'original' bass
-
it seems a shame to use a bass like that just for practicing
-
so what does it sound like then?

Surprised this hasn't been posted already but I've just bought tickets to see Cheap Trick at the O2 ABC in Glasgow in November Didn't think they'd ever play in the UK and certainly not within reasonable distance to me. Unfortunately no Bun E Carlos, currently being replaced by Rick Neilson's son. I'm already writing the wanted ad: " Wanted - 12 string bass: Waterstone TP12, Hamer B12A or Chandler" now I come to mention it, its been at least a couple of years since I had an 8 never mind a 12ver.

well you know how it goes on here: " this is the best bass I've ever played, its a keeper, its for sale"

I'll buy it off you if you don't like it I fancy trying one as well but the ones that come up on Ebay are usually Fecked You'll need to check out the Cream Reunion tour when Sir Jack of Bruce played a real one

Single Coil Precision pickup- Replacement options.
Delberthot replied to cameltoe's topic in Accessories and Misc
I've had both and although the Lollar is the better of the 2 pickups I would go for the 1/4" pounder based on what you are looking for. The Lollar is a big, beefy sounding pickup which is the dogs for a growly, aggressive, clear tone to fill out a 3 piece but the SD is the punchier of the 2. The Lollar tended to get lost with a second guitar or keyboard which is why I had the SD in my gold warmoth for the wedding/function band and the Lollar for the rock band -
I can't see how the height of the action can possibly affect the string tension? Maybe the perception of tension.... Hmmmm, that sounds like a good album title!
possibly if you are playing with a high action - fretting a note requires you to push the string further to get it to make a sound against a fret than if the action was lower which would increase the tension
-
the string gauge, brand, core shape and material will all have an effect as will how high the strings are off the fretboard I don't know how the last bit works but from previous experience, the lower the strings the lower the tension and vice versa

Trace elliot 1528 2x15 + flight case

I was playing at the weekend with my trace 2x15 and brightbox through my Gallien head with a smile on my face all night - although it does help playing with the same drummer for 15 years who plays a Premier Signia kit with Kickport. I turned the OC-2 on and was looking around me to work out where the bass was coming from - it sounded like I'd just been connected up to huuuuuuuge PA subs sh*t - just realised that this sounds like something you'd read on Talkbs In the pocket, outtasight, it kills, Jaco etc

cannnons that shoot photon torpedoes at guitarists and ego maniac singers, 4 forward gears. Some kind of electric hat that takes your thoughts and turns them into notes. His and hers sinks with gold taps. Personally I'd go for the Stu Hamm pickup setup so you have the best of both worlds, simple tone and volume controls with pickup switching, series/parallel etc but keep it passive. candy apple red finish. Maple fretless neck with binding - if you've ever seen the pictures in the Fender Bass Book with the 2 Custom Jazz basses you'll know what that looks like.

Warwick completely moving production to Korea?
Delberthot replied to sockdeluxe_mikey's topic in Bass Guitars
You would think that with the likes of Lakland and Musicman offering their lower end variants made in the far east that it makes sense for Wariwck to do the same with their revamped Rockbass series but not their high end basses. Personally I don't care where something is made as long as it is well made but I can see how someone who is fond of a brand would be upset or annoyed if production moved elsewhere. -
Bought brand new 3 weeks ago I am considering selling my Squier VM Jazz bass. You know the one - natural, maple neck, block inlays, Duncan Designed pickups and so on. http://www.squierguitars.com/products/sear...rtno=0326702521 Very high quality for the price but my newly acquired fretless VM Jazz is getting all the playing time. No trades on this one, I am strictly a one bass man. Considering it is brand new and in perfect nick apart from some usual light marks on the scratchplate you can only see if you hold it up to the light (that's what its there for). It has a finish mark on the corner or the heel of the body, so small, it took me an afternoon to find it but I like to be honest with my stuff. I'm looking for £220 delivered to mainland UK in a sw@nky Fender gig bag (they come with nowt) I'll also include a couple of sets of light guage strings (same as fitted) as well as the originals that were taken off the day I got it and a few of my favourite paper-in-oil caps for you to try. I'll even include the 'Basschatters Favourite' straplock system (those Grolsch type washers) We all know on here how good these are and if it wasn't for the rekindling of my love for fretless it wouldn't be for sale. To make things interesting, if you'd prefer to have a sunburst body with tort scratchplate and maple block neck instead of the usual natural finish then I can swap the neck with my fretless as they are essentially the same bass with different finishes. Original thread pictures here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=85943 This would essentially make the bass look like the Geddy Lee Jazz with the new sunburst finish: http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0257702306 The body is in perfect nick as well and the addition of the guard makes a huge difference to the look of it instead of it being another Jaco clone The choice is yours
