1. After trying a few times I realised that I'm just too cack handed to do this kind of thing so ended up changing out the panel mount jack socket and this was a piece of cake by comparison
2. Jason Lollar all the way for me. powerful, punchy, manly.
3. I wasn't able to get anywhere near cranking my OBT when I had it. I would probably have benefitted from a 250w version its so loud. To crank the preamp I found that the master was just barely on so a lower wattage version would've meant that I could've opened up the power section a bit more
4. parcelmonkey rocks -cheap as you like and so easy to use
5. I'm actually beginning to doubt that its actually one of yours but i was sure i ordered it from you. It looks like it has 4 pole speakon plugs on the end, one orange and one blue and the wires are brown and blue the cable has the details 'demko', 'nkt cables', '2x2.5mm'.
6. Think I've found it already - page 28 http://www.britishaudioservice.com/inst/SERIES%206.pdf pin 2 positive and pin 1 negative so does that mean that it would go pin 2 on the XLR to 1+ on the speakon and pin 1 to 1- ? does pin 3 just get left bare then? Are they marked pin 1, 2, 3 on the XLR and 1+ and 1- on the speakon?
7. Out tomorrow night for a gig and there's a wee issue with the 1/4" input on my trace cab. It works fine but the socket just needs replaced. I have a speakon-speakon cable that I bought from OBBM a while back so I was thinking, to get me through tomorrow's gig, about taking one of the speakons off and replacing it with an XLR to fire into the other input I take it that I can go and buy a regular XLR connector but what wire goes to what pin? I've been reading a lot and some people reckon that pin 3 is hot and pin 1 is ground, others reckon it is 2 and 1 and some suggest that 2 and 3 are bridged for hot and 1 is ground. I have no intentions of touching anything until I know exactly what goes where to I would appreciate some assistance to make sure I get this right Thanks in advance
8. I don't know about locking in but I once got locked out of the house after a huge bender. I've been spoiled for the past 15 years playing with a phenomenal drummer. We know exactly what we are going to play even if its the first time we've done something or decide to drop a bit of jazz* into a song. We feed off each other's playing. I've actually realised that I concentrate more on the high hats and ride cymbal than anything else. * jazz is our band term for when it all goes horribly wrong and you become possessed with the spirit of Les Dawson
9. Another shuttle bargain in the same week. let's see how many minutes it takes for this one to go
10. That probably answers my question as well - I have a couple of Japanese Boss pedals that I don't want to put the velcro over the label in case I sell them and the label gets damaged so they have a habit of separating from the glue back on the velcro itself and rolling around inside my pedalboard. I didn't buy them cos they're Japanese or filled with Mojo and suchlike, I just happened to get 2 pedals at a really good price that happened to be Japanese. To Homebase after work methinks
11. I've owned 60-70 basses in the 22 years I have been playing. I've never owned something as expensive as an Alembic or a Fodera but still, the most expensive bass I have ever owned would probably be a Warwick NT5 Thumb bass. I have 2 gigs under my belt with my Squier Vintage Modified Jazz Bass and am very happy so far but with my previous record it could be away tomorrow. I am really loving the sound or rather sounds that this thing can produce and it has one of the lowest actions of any bass I have owned. I have owned MIA, MIM, MIJ and MIJ Fenders and JV, SQ and this current Squier. I am happy to be going out every weekend with this well balanced, well made bass that cost me a tad over £200 brand new in the knowledge that it is going to give me everything I need
12. For a combo that sounds as close as you can probably get to an all valve amp - check out the trace V-Type combo on sale here. A few of us here have had them and they are seriously good
13. I'm surprised it took as long for someone to go for it at that price.
14. Good replies so far - the main reason I asked is that I have taken 1 amp and 1 cab to almost every gig I have ever done so this is all new to me. I'd never thought about a small guitar amp before - I used a Trace head putting out a possible 90w through my 4x12" on Sunday and still had bags of volume left that i didn't need
15. There's Red Dog down the Grassmarket that used to be Sound Control and then there's the other place in Ocean Terminal I think. That one is run by a former band mate of mine Jon Clark or it may be his son. Same guy that has mijfenders.com I've never been in either so couldn't tell you. And one more vote for Glasgow - you have GuitarGuitar, The Guitar Store who sometimes have some unusual second hand stuff, Merchant City Music, McCormacks and there are one or 2 on Great Western Road somewhere
16. Before I say any more, this thread isn't to ignite the whole reliability or what's better debate, its simply to find out what others are doing. I am, all things being well, going to be the owner of my first all valve amp shortly. My main band is a wedding/function band. Since this is going to be my first valve amp I wanted to find out what other valve amp owners had in terms of a backup in case something goes pop. My main concern is that should a valve fail during a gig or the amp falls off my cabinet or whatever, what would I do during the gig? I could carry a matched set of spare valves with me but being in a wedding band does not allow me the time to let the amp cool down, take the top off it, install new valves and then power it up. I was thinking more along the lines of a backup solid state amp and was wondering if this is what other valve amp owners did. I was thinking about something as small as possible but I don't see the point in buying something expensive and digital to sit in a bag at every gig with only a remote chance of ever being used but I also don't want a big bulky thing either.
17.
Are these stainless steel? If so, what guage?
They're nickel 45, 65, 85, 105
18. I would appear to have bought the wrong gauge strings and am finding these higher tension than I am used to - either that or I'm becoming a jessie in my old age. I have 2 sets of 4 string sets in the new sealed packets Happy to swap for a set of lower tension strings (EB Super Slinkies or something in a 40-100 etc) or £12 delivered for 1 set and £22 for both. For swapsies I'd prefer something of the nickel roundwound variety Its these ones here I'm selling: http://www.astrings.co.uk/Ernie_Ball_Bass_2833
19. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=85837 My name is Derek and I'm a bassaholic
20. I'm finding that I am playing right over the pickups on my jazz which is a tad uncomfortable on the fingers and was wondering if it is possible to replace the standard covers with the closed EMG type ones and if there would be any change in sound if I did so.

22. If you can find one - a Yamaha BB5000 or Rickenbacker 4001/5 as they're both 5 string basses with 4 string necks. A lot of the Ibanez'z have very slim necks as well.
