I don't think that they will ever go up in value like JV Squiers etc but the fact that there are relatively few of them could add to the value if someone was really desparate to have one. The average person looking for a violin bass is going to go with a Hofner or Hofner clone. Even Epiphone themselves abandoned this model to go with a Hofner clone I've never tried one but its on my list of basses to try so I am serious about taking it off your hands if you decide not to keep it for the right price obviously. I expect it to sound a bit lighter than an EB-0 due to the smaller mass of the body and so for than I think more people would go for the EB-0.

Peavey Combo 300 115BW (and an Aria Pro II bass)

I think this was the one between the TNT150 and the Databass - the TNTs usually go for £100 ish and the Databass just over £200 so the previous quote should be about right. They are worth more but there's so much lightweight stuff around these days that people are abandoning the older heavy duty gear - except me -
There used to be a Skoda Estelle painted like a cow that you could see at the side of the road on the way to Weegieland

Jeff Rath over on Rickresource is your man - he's had a fair few of them They made a Glen Frey 2030 at one point as well or that could've been the 2080.

In case a 5 takes your fancy, until recently the SR5 was technically a Sterling - same pickups and electronics, switching etc until the 5 string Sterling came out and they modified the SR5 to include the correct Stingray gubbins. I've never had a bad Stingray, I'm just not into them right now - if you want the king of Stingray trans colours then you want a 30th Anniversary, complete with mahogany body - none more growlier than this beast.

I have to say that I detest Jaco looking basses. I had one of these before and sold it cos it looked hellish but with the scratchplate it makes it look completely different. I had been thinking about doing the switcheroo as well to get rid of the sunburst but its growing on me If you did switch necks you could fire it on Ebay and say that you found it in your uncle's loft so could be a rare one off prototype or similar BS to that. You'd only really make your money back if you bought both second hand I think. I haven't tried any of the new MIM Fenders but I've hated every single one I've owned. The new ones are meant to be really good but they're approaching second hand MIA money now.

I'm very happy with my/your/Moos3h's Squier VM Jazz. It sounds almost exactly how I want a fretless to play and sound. I like it so much in fact that I'm going the whole hog on a proper setup with Tusq nut and Badass II to get the action perfect. I have thought about changing pickups and electronics but seriously, on a bass that cost me less than some of the pickup/electronics upgrades out there, is it really worth it? I'm going to do the series/parallel mod as I already have the parts for something a bit different. I've only had it a couple of weeks and have been thinking if it would be worth finding something better and keeping it for a backup but I can't find anything that I would consider to be a lot better than this is without spending twice, three or four times the money. I've already got the action pretty low but I haven't spent a great deal of time on it. Last saturday I got the exact tone for 'wherever I lay my hat' which is impressive considering it a different bass. Thornybank has a fretless bass that is set up to perfection but I couldn't bring myself to buy it as I couldn't justify the cost which is a shame cos its a peach.

nah, I meant Hofner copied the Gibson EB-1. They made them out of cheap plywood as budget basses. If it hadn;t been for a certain Liverpudlian, chances are that no one today would've remembered about them cos they'd have probably gone out of business long ago and that crazy German dude might have got his £3000 for the 'first' bass
-
Well they did copy the original design and make it out of plywood as a cheap copy of the 'original' bass
-
it seems a shame to use a bass like that just for practicing
-
so what does it sound like then?

Surprised this hasn't been posted already but I've just bought tickets to see Cheap Trick at the O2 ABC in Glasgow in November Didn't think they'd ever play in the UK and certainly not within reasonable distance to me. Unfortunately no Bun E Carlos, currently being replaced by Rick Neilson's son. I'm already writing the wanted ad: " Wanted - 12 string bass: Waterstone TP12, Hamer B12A or Chandler" now I come to mention it, its been at least a couple of years since I had an 8 never mind a 12ver.

well you know how it goes on here: " this is the best bass I've ever played, its a keeper, its for sale"

I'll buy it off you if you don't like it I fancy trying one as well but the ones that come up on Ebay are usually Fecked You'll need to check out the Cream Reunion tour when Sir Jack of Bruce played a real one

I've had both and although the Lollar is the better of the 2 pickups I would go for the 1/4" pounder based on what you are looking for. The Lollar is a big, beefy sounding pickup which is the dogs for a growly, aggressive, clear tone to fill out a 3 piece but the SD is the punchier of the 2. The Lollar tended to get lost with a second guitar or keyboard which is why I had the SD in my gold warmoth for the wedding/function band and the Lollar for the rock band -
I can't see how the height of the action can possibly affect the string tension? Maybe the perception of tension.... Hmmmm, that sounds like a good album title!
possibly if you are playing with a high action - fretting a note requires you to push the string further to get it to make a sound against a fret than if the action was lower which would increase the tension
-
the string gauge, brand, core shape and material will all have an effect as will how high the strings are off the fretboard I don't know how the last bit works but from previous experience, the lower the strings the lower the tension and vice versa
