1. Bonsoir Fantastic as my new / old Trace 2x15" is, it does reek of Sir Walter Raleigh's finest tobaccy, presumably from years of gigs in smoky pubs and possibly a smoky owner to boot. I've tried Febreze on it but since its really for fabrics its done absolutely hee haw to remove the smell and its giving me the dry boak Any suggestions on how to remove the smell - soapy water, recover the cab?
2. it weighs about 45kg apparently but doesn't feel it. The only difficulty I've had lifting it is the width of it. Its wider than a normal bass cab but once you get your arms round it its fine. I had to lift my 2x15" myself on Saturday up 30 large metal twisty stairs - now that was a challenge. For collection only I would include a brand new, unused stair climbing trolley. It has 3 wheels to negotiate stairs. The footplate is about normal size but it has a second footplate that drops down to take deeper stuff such as this cab. So for anyone who isn't Popeye and doesn't like the song Tequila I would include this for and extra £30 Monster is exactly how I would describe it and to think that these were designed to be used with another 1248 or the matching 2x15". For someone looking for a 1 cab rig that you can use with or without PA support in most venues then this is it.

4. I did have this in the Ebay listings sub-forum but thought I'd bring it into the main section. To give you a bit of a background, I had wanted one of these for years and when the opportunity came up to get one from a forum member I jumped at the chance. This is one of the rare cabs that were specifically designed to complement the Trace valve gear. PRICEDROP - I am now able to deliver this to mainland UK for £250 including courier or £200 collected. I'd also prefer bank transfer or cash if collecting, otherwise I'd have to charge extra to cover the Paypal fees Condition wise, the carpet covering is bobbled as would be expected for a well gigged Trace cab. Structurally it is solid and everything works as it should. Unusually it has a cloth grill but underneath this is the traditional Trace metal grill to protect the drivers from over exuberant musucians/punters. The cab is rated at 800w at 8ohms and also has a horn tweeter with attenuator on the back. Connections are usual trace 1/4" jack and XLRs. I have fitted wheels to this to make it easier to move. Soundwise, this cab is an absolute beast. Very deep yet clear. Some would categorise it as a classic rock cab but I used it equally as well in my wedding band. The only reason I am selling it is that I managed to find a 1524 that I have been looking for equally as long as I had been looking for this and it suits my sound better.
5. Unfortunately there are few places to even play, let alone meet other musicians in Falkirk. I would say to put a flyer into The Bunker practice studio in Bonnybridge. There are loads of bands playing there. Speak to Panda who usually runs it to see if there are any bands he know of looking for bass players. We used to have the Cottages jam session every sunday but that's closed down. They did try to revive it at a pub round from Polmont YOI but don't know if that ever took off or not. As far as playing goes in Falkirk you have Behind the Wall, Full Stop have started putting bands on and The Brightons Inn. My rock band plays maybe once or twice a month as we all have other stuff on but if we played any more then we'd have to start looking at gigs in Galashiels, Peebles and Inverness etc like we used to do when we played more. Try getting an ad sorted out and get it round the practice places and into the 2 music shops in Falkirk. I've tried the online ads and got nowhere when I was looking at alternatives to current bands a few years ago.
6. For me it's all about the condition - scratches and dings that aren't obvious are fine but if someone before me has been clumsy or tried to fake relic a bass then I would walk away from it, even though it may be the best playing bass in the world. I'm not anal about my basses, I rarely clean them and when they are not being gigged they're kept in a gig bag but my basses are always in excellent condition. Alll I ever do is change the strings when needed, do a setup when needed and lemon oil the fretboard when needed so there could be gaps of anything up to 6 or 7 months between me actually doing anything other than playing my bass. In the 70 or so basses I have owned I have had maybe one ding that has been caused by me
7. Haven't seen one that cheap for a long time -not since I bought a left handed one fom Denmark for £550 delivered about 4 years ago
8. I would like to clear one thing up - I enjoy playing what I play and enjoy playing with the people that I play music with. I don't play anything I don't want to play. If I didn't want to play then I wouldn't, simple as that. Its nothing to do with me being in a function band, brass band or a f***ing spoons playing trio. I simply enjoy doing what i do and if you dont then I don't give a f***. If you don't want to do it then don't f***ing do it. I simply stated what I do, I enjoy doing what I do and I do it f***ing well. If you want to play for yourself and to f*** with the punters then do it as long as they like you cos if they don't then you won't be back. I'm not pro and wouldn;t do it cos it ceases to be a hobby and becomes you job.
9. I've played in a wedding band for 14 years soave been playing a lot of music that is not my style. From the Brown Sugar Thread where I was undeservedly slated for saying that I played it my way - if I am playing something I don't particularly like, I try to make it my own. Perhaps by using subtle improvisations or completely different bass lines. The truth is that most punters really don't care what you are playing and if it happens to be 3bpm faster than on the record then who is really going to notice and who gives a f***? The most important thing is to entertain the paying public and as long as you can do that and enjoy yourself then I see no harm in it. If you can take these songs and change parts so you enjoy playing them more, the rest of the band are happy and the crowd enjoy you then you've done your job and enjoy yourself in the process. IF you can't do that then get out and get into something you will enjoy
10. I think the difference in the sound is attributed to the fact that the 2x15" is ported and I believe that the 4x12" is sealed. The 1524 is also in a bigger enclosure which I assume affects the sound. The 4x12" has a horn Both great cabs, both very loud but there's something about the 1524 that I prefer. Quite a few diferences - size of enclosure, size of drivers, sealed v ported, horn v no horn.
11. I'm now keen to sell this since I have now located the missing piece of my rig that I have been searching for. Plenty of people watching the auction but no confirmed offers yet. If you're interested PM me with an offer. I'd prefer the buyer to collect or meet up somewhere. I can post if necessary but it will be quite pricey.
12. I like the Killers' bass player's tone - especially on Jenny Was a Friend of Mine
13. I have wheels on both of my cabs and have a stair climbing trolley for the few gigs that would require we to navigate a lot of stairs 65kg is a hell of a weight though, possibly closer to 45kg - that was the weight of my Trace Elliot MkV 4x10" combo. an 8x10" weighs in at around 65kg - you'll know when your lifting one of those cos after you lift it you'll be right over to the chiropractor
14. I like smoking bananas to open up the doors of creation Just yanking your chain, I've never felt the urge to write anything
15.
I've just picked my 460 up from Paul Glazebrook who as usual has done an excellent job of sorting the action, polishing the frets and generally setting it up nicely. I'm overjoyed - so playable and just a nice object to have around. The neck pickup makes a rich powerful dark sound with a decent amount of punch, but the signal from the bridge pickup seems weak in comparison. Not sure why this might be, any suggestions welcomed. Here's a shot inside the control cavity, the blend pot is top centre. Is this any help? Here are a couple of pictures, not very good quality but you get the general idea. Mods, if you're reading this please can we have this thread re-stickied? Besides being as Jack said one of the major sources of information on the net for SGC Nanyo basses, it attracts a steady stream of new recruits to the site and has more than 14,500 viewings!
Thats a 465 exactly like the one I used have with the ebony fretboard and paduak top - lovely bass
16.
"learn it yor own way"....pphhwww bit of an excuse really, learn it properly from the record...the "my version" is usually a bit crap (EVEN when its Bill Wyman and the 4 notes requried)can you belive that? getting a gig means you have to do this type of irksome thing
If you're depping and the band want it learnt as the record then you learn it as the record but if its your own band then what difference does it make? Do you really think that punters will be listening that closely? I rarely play anything as it was done originally unless the bass line is the main part of the song - eg you couldn't improvise Good Times by Chic cos the bassline is the song. Plus I've never had a period in my playing career where I've not been in at least one band and have never been told to learn it like the record so that irksome thing hasn't been an issue. Sorry to go but you really don't know me and take offence at someone telling me that what I am playing is crap.
17. I believe that Big John's uncle has had it in his loft since new.
18. If you were to go to glasgow, you'd be as well taking it to the mighty Jimmy Moon. did the best set up ever on a bass of mine
19. why not learn it your own way? I've never bothered to listen to it to learn it note by note and have been playing it regularly in bands for the past 15 years.
20. Well this wasn't predicted. Waited for years to get one, got it, loved it only for me to prefer the sound of my Trace 1524 cab. I've only had this a month or so but I'm not going to need it so I've fired it on Ebay. If any forum members are interested then I am happy to do a deal for it on here rather than incur Egay charges http://shop.ebay.co.uk/Delberthot/m.html?_...op=1&_rdc=1 If you're interested then have a read over the auction and PM me. I'm not looking for any trades at this time but may change my mind for the right piece of equipment.
21. Selling my Riverhead Jupiter bass - When I listen to the demo I did when I was 19 it really makes no sense why I sold it. I've been looking for it ever since. I was really into Nathan East's playing at the time and seeing him with that big white Yamaha TRB6 made me want something similar so I traded it for: White Bass Collection SB305 passive 5 string. One of the best basses I've owned. Really easy to play, light and a great B string. Sold it when I bought my black Stringray 5 string Sonic Blue Status T Bass 5 string that I had defretted - sold it for peanuts, KP if I remember correctly 3 basses out of about 70 isn't bad going. no amp/effects regrets though - every one a gem.
22. How about this? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=82039
23. Whereabouts in South West Scotland are you? Does anyone here know if Alan at ACG in Moffat does setups? If its any consolation, we started off Friday Night's set with 'Don't Believe a Word' by Thin Lizzy but I started playing 'Wishing Well' by Free. Don't remember ever doing that before. Whoops.
