I would say that your budget would more than cover a more powerful rig if you buy second hand. I picked up a Trace 1524 2x15" last weekend for £95 and used it at Friday's gig - one of the best cabs I've ever played through. I would say one big question that hasn't been asked yet is that will it always be you lifting the rig or will you have help? I am in no way being sexist but it will be a factor when choosing gear. My 4x12" weighs 40kg and the 2x15" must be around the same

Have you tried a Precision?
-
Well I can honestly say that I had the best sound I've had in a long time. This amp is so powerful and warm - I had the most amazing sound tonight. I've wanted a 2x15" for years so when the chance came up to get one I had to take it - its probably about the same weight as my 4x12" Trace cab but I have wheels on it. 4ohms, 400 watts = plenty of volume. Both amp and cab were ticking over nicely tonight As for using a plectrum - it was like a dirty chainsaw cutting through rusty metal - the dogs sloblock Orange Terror Bass & Trace Elliot 1524 = much enjoyment. So much bottom end and definition

How am I going to get this fast?
Delberthot replied to The inglourious bass turd's topic in General Discussion
You got some speed man? I too would like to see how to increase my speed with a plectrum. I'm getting better at relaxing but still have a long way to go to decelop a decent technique -
And The Award For Best Bass Goes To
Delberthot replied to Pete Academy's topic in General Discussion
Nah, don't like these modern pretenders. :snob: I've never liked the sound or the look of them. Give me a good Precision any day of the week. I am totally in love with mine Oh how times change when I wanted active everything with at least 5 strings, more controls than the Hubble space telescope and and would change the strings once a month. I've just changed mine a few days ago - that should do me until autumn -
using mine for the first time with the rock band tonight I'm like a dog with 2 thingies Terror Bass and a Trace 2x15". mwahahaha.

good job we're not on Talkbs - you won't find anything with less than 9 strings on there I jest of course, or do I?

Does an 8ohm running at 500w bass amp head exist?
Delberthot replied to coffee_king's topic in Amps and Cabs
Orange Terror Bass does 500w at 4 or 8ohms -
at the end of the day, if they can offer you it at that price whilst still being able to maintain a physical premises, staff to help you and look after you after you walk out of the shop then they will - simple as that. An online store needs a warehouse, computer system and a couple of guys to pick and arrange couriers to deliver items to you (alright there may be more but you get the idea) they don't need to know anything about what they are selling or how to set instruments up. They could pay a guy to sit at home and answer techie questions by email. I'm happy buying online as I generally do my homework but more recently I prefer the situation where I can call the person I am buying my gear from and get it delivered, still sight unseen and slightly more expensive, than just pressing a button and hoping for the best as I know I can pick up the phone if there's a problem.

2 days to go so i thought I'd bump this for anyone who hasn't spotted this yet - not that there's a huge Falkirk contingent anyway. Still trying to decide between taking the 4x12" or the 2x15". One is 8ohms and the other's 4 so I can't take both There's free entry if you say the secret code phrase "drop your trousers Sir Richard I cannot wait any longer". Ok there's free entry anyway but it would be funny if someone actually did this

Don't Stingrays use Alnico poles and Sterlings use Ceramic? and the switching thing as well anyone with a stingray 5 string more than a few years old actually has a Sterling as it has ceramic poles and the same electronics.

I remember seeing a picture in Bassist a few years back with a picture of Steve Swallow using a Parker Fly bass tuned E-C Ii tried it once and couldn't find a use for it. It all depends on what kind of stuff you play and the sound you are trying to achieve. The reason I stopped playing 6ers was because I hardly used the C for anything.

I hate dirt, or mojo as people who cannot be bothered to keep their gear clean call it. I also cannot handle relicing which is a word that always looks wrong. If you've been unfortunate to ding your bass and can't/won't get it repaired then fair enough but doing it intentionally gives me the dry boak. the other annoyance particular to Egay is people trying to sell a bass with a string or a knob missing - anyone looking at it is going to thing that its fecked but by spending a couple of pounds it can transform the way an instrument looks from sh!te to alright

Would have to be either EB-0 or a green Dean Zone bass. I quite fancy getting one of the Dean basses and firing a quarter pounder into it since I'm buying it purely for the looks

What are the narrowest neck 5 and 6 string basses?
Delberthot replied to fretmeister's topic in Bass Guitars
Yamaha B5000. Weren't they just 4 string necks with 5 strings on them? You could also mod an existing bass to 5 strings. i did it with a Rick copy by buying a Kahler fully adjustable bridge, GB7 tuners and making sure that the pickup was a soapbar. Alternatively if you could find a 5 string Rick, I think that they used 4 string necks for their 5 stringers -
I like the original Fender one although I thought it compressed the sound somewhat. The SD quarter pounder is a very powerful pickup and I used one in my first Warmoth but had to go through the active input cos it was so powerful. If you want the ultimate tone IMO then you need to look at the Jason Lollar one - its an absolute beast and easily the best sounding one I've tried for the single coil P Bass. This was the same guy that was building replacement Rick horseshoe pickups until Rick put their foot down despite not selling them on their own for years http://www.lollarguitars.com/mm5/merchant....e=pbass-pickups Alternatively, if you want to sound like Sting, apparently his '57 single coil is fitted with an SD humbucker: http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/cust...ingle_coilstac/

Epiphone Les Paul Special for sale or trade
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in Basses For Sale

when you press the BIn button there's a warning telling you that by confirming you are enetering into a contract regardless of whether payment has been made, received or refunded - its as soon as the BIN button has been pressed and confirmed
-
possibly because they are easier to make than having to mark out where the frets go, cut the slots, fit the frets, file down the edges etc?
-
LOL, you're about the fifth person to say just that! I'm happy to consider trades also? Chris
I have a kidney in reasonable condition Alas I only have my Epiphone Les Paul bass and Boss ODB3 to offer in trade at present. I pretty much cleared everything else out a couple of months ago

Party at mine then? I have to admit that i didn't go to the Moffat one as I thought it was a bit far away personally but I'd be up for a more central one. I wouldn't have time to organise it but would definitely attend if I could. Anywhere central where we could get together, have a laugh, a beer and get a train or a bus would be perfect.

Got any pumps? don't the pickups come in a box with foam to protect them? I vaguelly remember using that in the past
