1. possibly because they are easier to make than having to mark out where the frets go, cut the slots, fit the frets, file down the edges etc?
2. an all time classic when I first picked up the bass at age 12 - Another One Bites the Dust by Queen not to be confused with the Wierd Al Yankovic track - Another One Rides the Bus
3.
LOL, you're about the fifth person to say just that! I'm happy to consider trades also? Chris
I have a kidney in reasonable condition Alas I only have my Epiphone Les Paul bass and Boss ODB3 to offer in trade at present. I pretty much cleared everything else out a couple of months ago
4. oh man, what a time to be without cash when there's a maple fretless neck going. bugger, can't see this being around by the time I have the cash
5. Party at mine then? I have to admit that i didn't go to the Moffat one as I thought it was a bit far away personally but I'd be up for a more central one. I wouldn't have time to organise it but would definitely attend if I could. Anywhere central where we could get together, have a laugh, a beer and get a train or a bus would be perfect.
6. Got any pumps? don't the pickups come in a box with foam to protect them? I vaguelly remember using that in the past
7. if you go onto one of the 12 string sites, there was a guy who turned an OLP 5 string into an 12 string bass and a 4 into an 8 so its certainly possible its on here- if you click on the basses link on the left hand side and then the conversions link near the bottom right of the page it take you to the 12 string version http://www.12stringbass.net/
8. Would Ric5 happen to be Jeff Rath? If so, he gave me the inspiration to mod a tired Rick bolt on copy into a 5 string with GB7 tuners and an EMG DC35 pickup His stuff is legendary
9. The price I have it on at includes postage :brow:
10. will be firing this on Ebay this weekend if there are no takers I'm up for cash or trade for something else
11. I'll probably just go ahead and take the neck off to adjust it. I could always get someone who knows what they're doing to fit a set of metal inserts if the neck stability became an issue
12. Sorry man, just noticed your reply I ordered them direct from fretfx in the US. Took longer than expected due to the holiday period. They were around £50 compared to closer to 10 times that for the Sims jobbies. Obviously the Sims ones are completely hidden except from the LEDs themselves but if I grow tired of them further down the line, I can remove them. I reckon the only time you'd be near the wire at the headstock would be to change strings and I don't do that nearly as often as I used to. You can't hold the bass by gripping the neck as they advise you not to so I hold it up near the headstock where a Hercules grab stand would to avoid the gubbins. Overall I'm very happy and will be giving them their first local outing next Friday in Falkirk if you want to come and have a look at them.
13. I don't know if I can get to it this way - there's no channel cut in the body like my Warmoth had to get in with a screwdriver. i can only see the top of the truss rod adjuster
14. I've searched as much as i can but can't find an answer on here. I'm going to fire a new set of strings on my precision at the weekend and am also going to give the truss rod a tweak as it does play well but could play even better if the neck was straighter. The issue I have is that the adjustment is at the body end and its the big screw type jobbie. Now it looks like the only way i can get to it is by removing the neck but I don't want to keep doing that to adjust and I don''t have the necessary tools/skill to fit metal inserts into the neck Is there any way to adjust one of these type of truss rods without removing the neck?
15. Does the knee and hip replacement come included in the price if you play like he does for too long?
16. I remember when this was all fields as far as the eye could see i used to be with it then they changed what 'it' was etc I've always been the youngest in all of my bands and still am at 34. One of my first gigs was a proper big band and the trumpeter was in his 80s when i was 17 - probably the youngest in that band by 40 odd years I don't care if they have to wheel me out to play, i want to keep going as long as i am able for years to come.
17. I'm using a Trace 1248H and have the input on 2 and the output on 3 and its bloody mental loud
18. I've got mine from here in the past: http://www.classicguitarboxes.com/thumb_rests.php
19.
I have a pair of covers from these chaps... http://www.pianocoversonline.co.uk/ Not the cheapest out there, but the service is good and the covers are bomb proof!!! They also have many cab and amp model dimensions preset on the website so if you r lucky that they have done one before you don't need to measure up. They make custom amp bags for lightweight amps as well. Used to have one for a MarkBass head, was a well spent £40 compared to the MarkBass branded one at £90
That's where I got the V-type combo cover made - they're actually part of Roqsolid as well
20. Weekend bump I can do you this bass complete with a practically perfect Warwick Rockbag crosswalker gig bag - this has the detatchable rucksack for your cables etc and cost abour £40 odds. Well made and padded, the one I use has been used for 100s of gigs and is still in top condition its one of these: http://www.warwick-distribution.de/?katID=...cl=EN&did=1 This is so I can now offer this delivered to mainland UK for £125
21. The thing I much prefer about the newer ones in the last 10 or so years (possibly more) is that the pickup poles don't have the sharp edges of the older ones. That's what made me sell my 20th anniversary 4 string (and it was ugly) Newer ones have 6 bolt neck joints onstead of 4 (or 3 for the oldest ones) , clip open battery compartments instead of screw on chrome plates. The 2 absolute best ultimate stingrays for me were my 30th anniversary that had a monumental tone and my 5 string Lava Pearl one. That's another point, if you're buying a 5 string, until the 5 string sterlings came out the 5 string stingray was really a sterling due to the pickup and electronics which differ from the stingray. Once the new sterlings came out, they changed the 5 string stingray to be more like the 4 string stingray if that makes sense. Oh, and that's not to be confused with the sterling by musicman range which are the budget range.
22. i drift in and out of my own wee world when I'm playing and sometimes have to think where in the song I am when I come out of it. I also have a tendency to try difficult stuff on the spur of the moment during a gig which may or may not work. I never think of my widdling in terms of major, minor etc - i just play on the fretboard where I think will sound right and most of the time its right. I do make mistakes but can't remember the last time I did though so it must've been a good few months ago. The good thing is that doing mainly weddings and functions, the crowd tend not to notice. We usually have a laugh between ourselves if one of us make a mistake
