1. After 20 years of playing in bands I made my singing debut a few weeks ago. I was so nervous that during soundcheck we did the song I was going to be singing and I couldn't sing it. When we did it for real during the night my arse was twitching like a rabbit's nose but the more I got into the song the better I got until by the end I was belting it out the way I should've been. Looking forward to next time, I'll still be nervous but it should be easier the more I do it.
2. +1 on Moondance - we put a CD on at breaks and when we were outside the hall, all you could hear was the bass line and its all over the place. surely every note of the guitar solo at the end of Layla is a mistake? sounds like someone strangling a cat towards the end of Don't Want to Miss a Thing by Aerosmith, Tom Hamilton goes up to the next note early - its so good that I play it that way as well. I'm sure there's one in Born to Be Wild that's like the Jean Genie one where the bass goes for the chorus slightly early.
3. If you're looking for the complete transportable rig then I'd include my Hartke LH500, complete with brand new rack bag, speaker cable, power cable and brand new heavy duty 3 wheeled trolley for negotiating stairs all for £550. the rack bag, trolley and speaker cable, like the cab have not been out of my house since I bought them a couple of weeks ago. I would rather not sell the Hartke and will only sell the cab on its own or with the amp so please don't ask me how much the amp is on its own. The bass in the picture is not for sale although I am noted for making impulse choices - the only way right now you'd get me to part with my bass is if you offered me a straight swap for a 5 string Stingray in black or lava pearl.
4. OK, the lure of the Trace 4x12" on here is too much so I've decided to put my brand new ashdown mag 8x10" up for sale here for as long as the Trace cab is available. This is the brand new model and as far as I can see, isn't even available to buy yet as every store I've looked at are still selling the one with the blue drivers. This cab runs at 4ohms and is rated at 800w. It features both speakon and 1/4" jacks on the back. handles on the side and at the the back and tilts back so it can be wheeled on its large fixed wheels. This is the Evo II model so instead of the usual metal grill it has a more vintage black cloth grill which is removable. the logo can also be removed as well for the steath look. I cannot work out how much this new version will cost as I cannot find any online so I am offering this for sale here for £330. I can deliver it for the cost of fuel, a coffee and a bikky. I've looked into postage and the cheapest I can find it for is about £75 so me coming to you or you coming to me is going to be the best option. This cab hasn't even been taken outside let alone gigged. I've only used it at home listening levels so its as mint as mint can be.
5. Skint? I may be up for trades for items of equal or lesser value than this combo as long as I get some cash in my direction. Possiblities include Trace V-type preamp, Orange bass terror, other trace heads & cabs. Basses include Yamaha BB3000, 5000 or similar, Thunderbird, EB-3, Epi EB-1, always up for trying another fretless. I'm not a snob when it comes to brands to feel free to try me. If you're interested in this but don't have all the cash then let me know what you have that you'd be up for trading and I'll get back to you. That is all.
6. I am confident that this will be lots better than any of these http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=75301 The ones you have listed are all low wattage budget combos and while there is nothing wrong with them, you are likely to get a lot more for your money by going second hand and have something that you can go out and gig with as well. Well, that's that shameless plug over
7. Tell me about it - unfortunately until i get my Trace combo sold I am sans cash
8. I am looking to sell my Trace V-type combo and thought I'd offer here first before it goes to Ebay. This is one of the earlier models, having the green grill cloth rather than the later metal Trace grill. This combo features the Fender Bassman tonestack with 2 preamp tubes and passive tone controls. It also has a 'deep' switch which I've never needed as the bottom end is great as it is and also a 'bright' switch for boosting the top end. Its just been fitted recently with 2 brand new JJ 12AX7 valves which I think gives it a growlier edge when you crank the preamp volume than the marshall ones that were in there when I bought it - I can change these back if you prefer a less aggressive tone. Its rated at 180w on its own or 250w with another 8ohm cab. Trace never made a cover for these so I had one specially made in black with green piping round the edges. It also has removable casters. The original Trace driver was removed many moons ago and replaced with an Eminence beta for reasons unknown. This is a beast of an amp and in true Trace style, it sounds far louder than the 180w it claims to be. Being absolutely honest, This is the best sounding amp I have ever played through but in a fit of madness I decided that I would sell it and get an 8x10" and the Hartke. I haven't gigged with the Hartke/Ashdown rig yet and won't do so until the end of February. If this hasn't sold by then and I still prefer the sound then the Trace will be staying and the big rig will be going. I'm actually in half a mind to sell everything and start again but I do have a habit of making rash decisions. Cosmetically it shows the signs of a well gigged combo but overall is in great shape. I was going to recover it but it didn;t bother me enough to do it. The amp section itself is clean as whistle. Price-wise I am looking for £400 plus postage. There's nothing I'm looking for in terms of trades as my new Ashdown 810 Mag and Hartke LH500 pretty much cover everything I need but you could always try me.
9. Man, this is torture The sale's fallen through with my Trace V-type combo otherwise I'd be pricing up a courier right now.
10.
The Rickenbacker was a present a deceased-family member so I have very mixed feelings about. I'd love to swap it in a moment for something more comfortable but it has a lot of continental value, plus it looks the dogs bollocks. Any thoughts of swapping/selling make me feel guilty but then the pain my fingers are in at the moment isn't good!
Those crazy French. Sorry, I know exactly what you mean. I had an absolutely cracking Rick 4003BB but after a night of playing it, I felt like I had arthritis. One of a small handful of basses I've hated having to sell.
11.
I have just finished painting my P on friday. I'll 1200 it and polish it, when it's done i'll post it. Oh it will be sweet.
we're talking about a bass, right? I've heard of not being able to polish a turd but p?
12. you do have a credit card machine, don't you? We did actually have someone try to pay us by credit card at the end of a wedding - yeah, wait while I pull a card machine out my ass ya idiot.
13. My Precision comprises a 2009 MIM Fender body, 1978 Fender US Machineheads and a mid 80s Fender MIJ neck. It has a lollar pickup, shaller bridge and the usual good quality components. The reason I did this is that i had most of the parts already. I could probably get the best part of £600-700 for the parts if I sold them separately but that kind of money would get you a second hand 2009 MIA precision so if i do ever sell it, I would probably have to take it apart again and sell the individual parts.
14. what about a Squier classic vibe 50s thingy bass?
15. I've put both older style (single coil type) and newer type (split pickup style) bridge covers over Gotoh 201s with no problems
16. How about a Jazz bass bridge cover to hide it and make it a bit retro? That way if you ever decide to convert it back to P & J, you just need to take the cover off and reattach the pickup
17. A GK 2001RB should be able to handle this if you rewire the cab. Its designed to take 2 4ohm cabs or 4 8ohm cabs per side. You could feed a 2x10" to each side and the 15" to either and could still add another 4ohm 1x15"
18. I never got as far as having a star wars guitar but I do have the full set of character knobs and the star wars strap
19. Would a bass relay be possible? Sort of like passing the torch at the olympics until it gets down to Zoe? I would say that if you are unhappy packing without a hard case, adding a hard case adds to the cost then take the neck off and use a smaller box, wrapped well and it can easily be assembled at the other end
20. I've done that in the past if there's something I'm selling and I want to give all the watchers a kick up the @r$e to actually bid instead of watching and doing nothing or stop watching if they've no intension of bidding. I did it with my trace V-type combo cos if it hadn't sold for the second time, I was going to take the amp out and making a sleeve for it to use with my 8x10" I did it with my 2-tone sunburst '51 reissue precision as I really didn;t want to sell it so I thought that if I was going to sell it then I'll sell it with a silly BIN price and added that I would keep it if it didn;t sell - sold within 6 hours.
21. you can have someone pay the money directly into your bank account as long as you are happy with that. giving someone your bank details means that they can deposit money only so don't worry about someone getting into your account and stealing it. I only do bank transfers on this forum and with people that I think i can trust. Ebay is a large, faceless thingy where you could be dealing with anyone. The vast majority of us here are all about helping each other out.
