1. try getting a hold of an empty flat screen TV box, you can get a big roll of bubblewrap on Ebay for less than a tenner. Wrap the bass up with the bubblewrap, place in the box, pack well so that it won;t move around and the cut the box down to the smallest size you can to save on postage. Parcelmonkey are currently the cheapest for sending within the UK but there are other and there's a FAQ thread for couriers somewhere around here. You'll have a load of bubblewrap left over for future things. I'm out of here cos I'm starting to get tempted myself and live close enough to collect.
2. Apparently the musician's union are trying to force people who mime to have that on tickets and adverts so people know what they are getting. Surely if the gaga gig is mimed then they could just have got a hold of a few pretty boys (or girls) to mime instead of actual musicians - Why didn't they just get the girls from the Robert Palmer video? I don't see the point of hiring real musicians to mime - even if there was a dvd at the end of it, most producers cannot line up what a mucisian is playing to what you can hear so they could be pretending to play anything.
3. be careful with those trolleys - the folding in wheels have a habit of folding in when you are moving stuff I've just ordered one of these for moving my new 8x10" around when there's stairs involved:
4. I'll probably take the badge off - not through snobbery but i just like things to be plain. The new ones screw on as opposed to the ones with the metal grill that were rivetted on I think
5.
Nice! I like hte new-look MAG cab How do you like the LH500?
I've not fired up the amp yet - it arrived this morning and I wanted to let it adjust to room temperature to make sure I didn't fry it if there was any condensation inside with being out in the cold. The flash on the camera makes it look like you can see the drivers in the cab but you can't. I've just realised that this has a fabric front whereas the older one has the metal front. I'll maybe specify a bigger cover for it so I can put some foam in front of it inside the cover when I am moving it.
6. A lot of the fun of finding what suits you is to buy, try and sell if you don't like it. Buy something second hand so you won't lose anything if you don't like it. Almost anything can be posted if your buyer lives too far away to collect so i wouldn't worry too much about that. I've posted everything from pickups to a 45kg trace combo. If you want warm and the ability to push it into overdrive then either something like the trace combo I am selling or a BassTerror as they have 2 valves in them - not that you need valves. Both Gallien amps I have had were very warm amps that can be pushed into mild overdrive despite not having valves due to a special circuit in them. I'm going to be gigging my new Hartke LH500 tonight. This is based on the Fender Bassman preamp with one valve coupled with a solid state amp so we'll see how that goes tonight. I almost bought one of the UK made Ashdown MAG600 heads that Soundslive are doing just because they are so cheap and UK made (not sure if that is necessarily better) I was also looking at the Kustom DE300 head that Thomann does but couldn't find enough information about them to purchase
7. My new rig is now complete i won't be able to gig it tonight as I'm waiting for a protective cover for the cab and I need to order a trolley for moving it up and down stairs. I'll probably use the amp and take my trace 1518 tonight
8. In case anyone's interested, I went with the hartke.Bought itfrom the classifieds here and just waiting for it to arrive. Merton's bound to think I'm stalking him cos I'm selling the trace v-type combo he used to own and have gone with the amp he replaced it with as well. I did win a watch though with my cab - because of the weather, the mag 810 I bought couldn;t be collected by their courier so they had ashdown send one directly and instead of getting one of the older ones with the blue speakers, I got one of the new Evo II ones
9. my return key really has stopped working
10. richard stilgoe's wheelbarrow full of milk. The Matt alan ensemble. Rameses niblick III. Where's my thribble. It was like that when I got here. My return key's stopped working. can I have a pee please bob. I've not got much money but my granny's got piles.
11. be careful of the ones where the wheels fold in as well - they tend to do it when you're transporting stuff. I'm going to get myself a stair climber jobby for my 8x10" cos its a beast
12.
I know a bloke who swears by it - says it makes his front of house sound so much better, I think it sounds a bit rockabilly.
I know a bloke who swears by it as well - he says "what the bloody hell is that noise?"
13. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWNX:IT I use these for the power amps for the pa - crown 602 in each. Had them about 6 months now and they're still as good as they were when i bought them. really tough and the handles are nice and padded for comfort I've just bought another one for my incoming hartke lh500.
14.
let me know if they are any good? you get rid of your trace combo yet?
Its on ebay and there's a lot of interest but no bidders yet.
15. fretfx are the way forward. the other ones aren't meant to be very good. I should receive my set from fretfx in the next week or two for my bass.
16. I could be interested in this next weekend assuming my trace gear sells on ebay. Don;t hold me to it though if someone else wants it first
17. I could tempted for trades for something interesting since most people are skint at this time of year. Possibly an Epiphone thunderbird or EB-3 or one of those bright green Dean basses.
18. I have just put my Trace V-type combo and series 6 1518 cab on Ebay due to an incoming Ashdown MAG 8x10" and Hartke LH500. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...=STRK:MESELX:IT http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...=STRK:MESELX:IT They are listed at less than what I would like for them in the hope that they generate a bidding war towards the end ( I can but hope ) but if anyone is interested in either or both, please PM me. This is providing that there are no bids on them as i wouldn't want to end an item where there are people bidding.
19. The drummer in my band teaches drums as well and he was telling me that they don't teach drums left handed anymore. I'm another lefty playing righty after I saw Mike Reid on saturday superstore. was 'playing' my brother's badminton racket left handed up until then. thought I was doing it wrong when I saw this so swapped to righty. Personally, i think I need more dexterity in my left hand when playing. something like Billy Jean in F# gets my left hand hurting but my right hand is fine
20. you need this for sale by me and full of valvey solid-state goodness. you could add the series 6 1518 cab that I am selling as well for even more of that lovely valve sound
21. not again. if someone buys this, could it be someone who lives further north so that eventually it can reach me who's been after one for years? bah
22. These string through the body so you'd be looking for something like a Badass III, One of the new Fender jobbies, possibly the Gotoh 203 but I can;t remember off the top of my head. Wilkinson also do one tht looks similar but allows you to set the intonation on each string The Fender pickup is quite good. i used a quarter pounder on my Gold warmoth bass but the daddy is the Lollar one but that's quite expensive in the grand scheme of things but its very very good. I have a lollar in my split coil Pbass
23. I've just bought an 8x10" cab and want to go for the rawk look
