1. Which takes me nicely up to date with this There's only about 40 basses missing from this that I didn't take pictures of or can't find them I'm still missing 3 or 4 stingrays, 2 Rickenbackers, Fenders, Cheap crap - not japcrap, just crap. my black 5 string stingray and other stuff long forgotten
2. Fender MIJ 80s E Series Precision bass in CAR Fender MIM Preicision bass with MM pickup Forgot to take my TI flats off it when I sold it, what rube
3. Defretted Trace T-bass 5 string in sonic blue Squier Vintage modified fretless G&L L2000
4. Lava Pearl 5 string Stingray - stunning Teal Stingray Lined fretless stingray that I should've kept a hold of Squier modified Precision TB Maple fretless Grabber copy, sold to some rube on Ebay
5. Geddy Jazz that was stealthed, white pickup covers and DR red devil strings Ibanez SR1016 that someone on here has and I could be interested in buying back for the right price One of the most beautiful basses I've ever owned - a very minty green Blue Boy Rickenbacker 4003 That I added a vintage guard, pickup surround and a toaster pickup Warwick Corvette $$ 5 string. couldn't get on with the gap between the pickups but a phenomenal bass
6. Big beast of a 12 string that weighed more than my car Crafter electro-acoustic - not the easiest to play if you're a larger gentleman, ahem. My second Warmoth single coil P
7. Amber burst or something like that Stingray - worst one I've ever owned 1979 Rickenbacker 4000 POS - what a dull lifeless bass this was Gold Warmoth single coil precision and Carlo Robelli 12 string bass
8. Yamaha TRB 6, defretted and bought from 7string Aria maple fretless 5 string 1973 Fender Telecaster bass that had bee modified a bit - sold this to Beedster 2 tone sunburst Fender CIJ '51 reissue precision. This was my second one, also had a mustard one
9. I've never owned more than maybe 7 basses at any one time but have owned and played some crackers. There aren't many left that I would like to own - Yamaha BB5000a, Zon Sonus, Streamer Stage 2, Fender maple fretless precision and Fender gold Walnut Elite II Precision are the only ones I can think of that are still on my list. In no particular order: Warwick Thumb NT5 - big sound but too much neckdive Modulus Flea - very sterile and lifeless tone compared to what i like but did provide the inspiration for my gold Warmoth for the paintwork and the Gotoh 201 bridge 20th anninversary Stingray - didn't get on with the flat tops on the pickup poles, a bit rough.
10. I went for JJ ones. Its hard to do a live comparison as I don't have my MIJ Fender but it sounds quite dirty which is exactly what I was going for. Anything to alleviate the all-valve GAS Surprising easy to install. I didn't look at any instructions or anything, just pulled the metal holder thingy to one side, wiggle the old one out, line up the new one and bob's your auntie's live-in lover.
11. This happened totally by accident. I had a mid 80s MIJ Eseries Fender precision but it had some chips on the paintwork through to the body and being a bit OCD when it comes to marks I decided to sell the bass on Ebay. Then the original owner got in touch with me to say that the tuners were off a 1978 Fender Precision and it had an SD vintage pickup in it. I decided to take the bass off and then put the loaded body back on instead. Ii kept the neck as I liked it, plus it had the old mojo snake oil tuners on it. I had a look for bodies on Ebay and couldn't find anything, then i stumbled across a brand new black MIM body. I didn't realise how new until i got it - its stamped October 2009. Bought from reliablefender in the US. I've been humming and hawing for ages about getting another Lollar pickup so decided to go for it. I already had a set of CTS pots, switchcraft jack and a new batch of paper-in-oil caps. I originally bought a Fender spiral saddle bridge but that never arrived from the US to ended up ordering a Gotoh 201 as I prefer them over Badass bridges. I was stuck when it came to the scratchplate - most new ones come with white 3 ply ones and tortoiseshell was totally out of the question cos it looks hellish and belongs on something off the antiques roadshow - Michael Aspel, that's it. It came down to black or mirror. In the end I went for mirror - WD do MIM specific scratchplates and there seem to be a lot of sellers selling replacement guards for Fenders, then tell you at the bottom that they may not fit. Eh? Finished off with a bargain set of D'Addario prosteels delivered for the princely sum of £11 from USA and a tie fighter pilot volume knob I set out to find another body but ended up recreating a classic bass. I remember seeing one like this in the original Guitar Store in Glasgow about 18 years ago and I'm sure it had a tremelo as well. Played it last night for the first time and I absolutely love it. It plays extremely well. The neck pocket is tight as a drum and it sounds effing amazing. Don't know if I am sold on the prosteels - I actually liked the rotosounds that i had on my other precision so might give them a couple of gigs to settle down then decided whether to change them or not.
12. I seem to have gone full circle with my bass gear. 15 years ago I had a GP7 7210H combo and 1048H cab and a 1153 cab that i later used with a GK 800RB. My main amp is a v-type 1x15" but that's been left at the venue we're doing the christmas party nights over Christmas so I can't get any photos of it but here's what it looks like inside - taken yesterday when I changed the preamp valves. I briefly had a 2103H I have a second rig that i haven't used yet as I bought it intending to use it with the Rock band but we aren't due to play until boxing night. Its a 1984 1110 combo that was modded by Trace to allow an 8ohm cab to be used with it and you can also connect a speaker lead to another input to use it as a 4x10" cab True to form, i have it on Ebay just now and I haven't even gigged with it yet I also have a 1518 in excellent condition that had a replacement driver put in it that was recommended by Rob Green when he was at Trace
13. I've now seen Roachford 6 times and would consider them one of my favourite bands. Andrew Roachford has had a new band since at least 2005 but I only saw them perform at the beginning of November. the previous 5 times were with Derrick Taylor on bass playing duties who is a fantastic player. An absolutely amazingly talented musician/vocalist, his uncle Bill taught Ronnie Scott how to play sax. Although I am a rocker and funker at heart, i absolutely love his music and will definitely see him again if he comes up here again. Any more fans of Andrew or his more than capable bass player, Raoul?
14. I'm a serious Queen fan but have never been to see a tribute band before - . I'll need to see if they're playing anywhere near me
15. 8 string basses are fun and 12vers are just mental. I played entire rock sets with a 12 string bass using my fingers as opposed to a pick and I was knackered by the end of it. I've yet to try a Warwick Streamer and I've always wanted to play an early 50s Fender bass just to see what its like I also want to try a Gibson EB-1 as well and a £5000 coffee table bass just for the hell of it.
16. Basses are very sort after, and this one has just been fully set up and double died by the best in the business (Bernie Goodfellow) so if you are looking for a supper fast bass that has the most amazing slap sounds they certainly are sorted right enough. its dead and if light evening meals are your thing then slappedy slap slap
17. just along the road from me as well
18. I bought a small Art DI box for exactly the same issue. my signal has alweways been far too hot as I've always liked to overdrive the preamp to get my sound. The Art DI has 2 pads so you can drop it by 10dB and it that isn't enought, it has a second 10dB pad to drop it ever further. I have mine coming from the line out of my Trace combo
19. I'm sure the thinking behind it was to change the neck when your frets wore out, plus its cheaper and easier to make. I've just mated a 2009 MIM Fender Precision body to a mid 80s MIJ Fender Precision neck and its as tight as a very tight thing
20. I used 500k CTS pots in my warmoths cos I could never find 250k ones that could be used with a rear routed body but normally 250k is recommended for single coil pickups and 500k for humbuckers. I use paper-in-oil caps for their mojo snake oil type properties. I've just bought another batch and have fired the first one into my precision so we'll see how it sounds at next week's gig.
21. It looks like the only original part is the neck from an early 70s one by the looks of it.
22. Its not to be confused with the V4, V6, V8 etc all valve stuff. It has 2 preamp tubes and solid state amp If it broke beyond repair, got nicked or squashed under a lorry I'd be Pming Overwater#1 to buy his 4x8" V-Type combo
23. I had been thinking about the new stuff when Tinman put up his 1x15" V-type combo for sale. Your tastes change over the years but this is one of the best sounding amps I have ever owned. I'm really looking forward to trying out my recent purchase of a 25 year old 1110 4x10" combo and 1518 cab on Boxing night. I've also owned a 7210H combo & 1048H, 1513, 2103H cabs. Apart from the 2 years with the Schroeder and the short spell with the Behringer BA410 with shattering cones, I have used trace cabs my whole gigging life. I'd still like a Twin head and a 1248 cab or 2 when I've got the cash
24. Not a fan of the man but there's more info here: http://www.marcusmiller.com/board_item.htm...954:26947:26934 Not a Sadowsky preamp
