1. yes - many basses have come and gone. I think I have pics with this bass next to about a dozen different ones that are no longer with me
2.
Wow quite a monumental moment.
Indeed, and one that I've been thinking about for some time.
3. I've been bitten by the split coil P bass bug - as opposed to the single coil variety which I have been using over the last few years so if there was a trade on offer then I'd be looking at something like a US fender P, Sandberg PM or a much older Fender P. I play mainly 4 strings now but could be tempted by a 5. I'd consider any kind of Leo fender creation - Musicman, Fender & G&L and any clones thereof I really don't have a clue about price but my other Warmoth 54 bass was traded for a Warwick Corvette $$ 5 string and I was also offered a Sandberg PM 5 string as well for a straight swap. This one cost a lot more to build than the other as i was very picky about choosing the right woods, colour & hardware. I'd also consider a Lakland Duck Dunn. I've not really thought a great deal about what I would take for a trade as I have been weighing up whether to sell it or not for ages now but the worst I could do is say no. If someone wants to PM me a cash price then I would consider it. I don't have a figure in my head but if I think its reasonable then I'll take it.
4. I have a confession to make, I haven't used my beloved gold Warmoth bass for a while now, instead preferring to use my E series MIJ Precision. I thought I'd gauge whether there would be enough interest to either sell it as a complete bass or split it for parts. Obviously I'd be looking to sell the bulk of the bits - ie I'm not going to sell the pickup if no one wants anything else. The spec is as follows: Mahogany body finished in gold sparkle - perfect condition Wenge neck with ebony fretboard and gold frets ( they have copper or something in them to make them appear gold) - Its a wee bit untidy where the jan III sits due to me making an arse of fitting it which resulted in me having to go to Jimmy moon in Glasgow for him to fix but you don't notice it from the front - in fact when I was taking pics of it, i could hardly see it myself. I have also painted the headstock black with the grain of the wenge showing through and it also has my initials on it but this could be sanded down with a bit of elbow grease. It has the tele headstock. Gold hardware which comprises - Schaller tuners, Gotoh 201 bridge, Schaller strap locks, gold knobs & string tree, later era precision bridge cover (not currently fitted but holes are there for it. Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder pickup, CTS 500k pots, gold electrosocket & paper in oil cap Some pics: None of these pics do the bass justice. the gold body looks fantastic on stage with the lights shining on it and the wenge neck is the richest chocolate colour I've ever seen. If there's enough interest then I'll look into splitting it if no one wants to buy the whole thing but I'd rather get buyers for most of the parts before I commit to anything. If someone wants the neck & someone else wants the body complete then that's cool as well or any combination of parts. Once i get some feedback, I'll fire some prices on the component parts. This bass is featured on the Warmoth site but the pic I gave them was reduced in quality so doesn't look particularly good. Its rear routed so you could fit pretty much anything in there that you want. I briefly had a 2 band Bartolini harness in there and there was loads of room for it and the battery.
5. Would you trade it for my 80s E series MIJ Precision, £300, a choice of limbs/organs and some pocket lint? :brow: Seriously though, I'm planning on buying an old precision like this towards the end of the year when i get the cash in from the Christmas gigs.
6. Last night's gig would be high up there. fantastic sound, fantastic bass, fantastic band, fantastic female singer singing with us for one night only with no rehersals, we were effing brilliant and i couln't play a wrong note all night.
7. sounds like a heavy bass - have you tried attaching helium balloons to it?
8. I got my premade Bartolini harness from www.bestbassgear.com as they were the cheapest at the time. Not in the UK/EU but cheap and quick delivery
9. Steinberger headless stick thingy? I'm taking advantage of being young and still having heavy amps and basses but when I get older I fully intend to get myself the lightest combo available - we'll probably be onto the Genz Shuttle 96.0 by then which will weigh the same as a packet of cigarettes and put out 10 squillion watts. I will also get one of the aforementioned stick thingies
10. or make it yourself? That's what I'm planning to do - it is just wood, carpet or paint and velcro. That way you have one made exactly how you want it
11. These kind of rants rarely go anywhere as its down to personal preference. personally, I find Wooten , Marcus Miller etc boring. They may have the finest chops but I can't stand listening to any one of them for more than a couple of minutes without switching off. I enjoy listening to talented bass players but only if they are playing a decent tune. same reason i can't listen to Jaco or Manring - it doesn't mean anything to me - doesn't mean that someone else isn't going to get enjoyment from it but I just can;t relate to it. I like Silly Putty by Stanley Clarke cos its a good tune and hymn of the seventh galaxy by Return to Forever cos its a good tune. Personally, I am a fan of Flea and his playing but I like the chili's music as well. I could take offence at your post but it seems to me that I enjoy one thing that you don't and you enjoy something that I don't. I don;t see a problem with that but clearly you do. I could equally have started a thread about how I don;t get why so many people like Jaco, because personally I think he's $h!te but others get enjoyment from his music. When you say how people hold Flea in high regard against Wooten - its not a contest - there is no world's greatest bass player just like there is no world's greatest sandwich - its down to personal tastes. If you don;t like someone then avoid them and references to them instead of getting annoyed. We're all here to learn from one another and hopefully become better, more knowledgable players as well as have a laugh. One man's Pamela anderson is another man's Hattie Jaques etc
12. Just done a very rough estimate on the combo being 70x80x60 and 50kg cos I can't find the exact measurements - comes in at £20.37 including vat for next day delivery. as long as they can move it they'll deliver it - the one that delivered mine had a truck with a taillift and a trolley to wheel it to my door. I'm sure that the Shuttle's have rubys in them - meant to be the best balance of sound quality and reliability
13. My MIJ Precision slaps very well - incidentally, Flea used a Precision in the early days of Tony Flow and the Miraculously Majestic Masters of Mayhem - better known as The Red Hot Chili peppers.
14. I'll take the POG if its still available PM'd
15. It was packed very well with that really thick bubble wrap with the huge bubbles and thick cardboard. Courier was glad to get rid of it cos it was so heavy compared to his usual deliveries of point of sale for shops etc. I can't remember which courier company delivered it. For anyone who doesn't know, I bought a 1x15" V-type combo from Tinman and before that it was Merton's (Nash's before that) If this is half as good as what I have, then its still going to be the dogs sloblock. If I didn't have the 1x15" I would've bought this by now. In fact, if I didn't have the 2103H to go with the 1x15" combo I would be buying it and running the two combos together. This is exactly what I imagine a valve amp should sound like without the expense of having the expense of changing power tubes. It has a nice amount of grit and overdrive if you want to push the valves a bit but can very warm and full sounding if you back off a bit. Its really easy to get into the amp if you want to change the preamp tubes - 4 screws on the top and it just slides out. Discovered mine has Marshall branded ones inside it!
16. I hvve a Korg BT-10 which is really good unfortunately, most of the times with tuners when you pay peanuts you get monkeys
17. I'll find out in a couple of weeks when I play my first pub gig with the Trace V-Type 1x15" and 2103H cab The amp is 'only' 250w - my previous setup was a Genz Shuttle 6.0 (600w) & Schroeder 1212L (800w) I'm actually looking forward to this as my amps have been getting progressively lighter and more powerful over the years - It'll be good to go back to something heavy with less power and more grunt
18. I take it Edinburgh would be fine though?
19. I made a bolt-on rick copy into a 5ver by drilling an extra hole on the head, new nut, Kahler bridge & soapbar pickup. a bit like what Jeff Rath does over on rickresource with real ones. The string spacing was ace but not if you're into slapping
20. If you're looking for shipping that doesn't cost an arm and a leg - Tinman and I used Parcelmonkey when he shipped the 1x15" V-type combo to me. they're really cheap for heavy stuff
21. My preferred choice as well - couldn't get along with the non-contoured 4003. I had a 4000 but the lack of a neck pickup was a problem for me - 4003Ss rock
22. I used to have a poster of Tim Landers with that bass on my wall when I was young. Its the first one I've seen, didn't realise it would be worth so much
23. It was me - there is a Delbert on the forum but it was myself who was looking for one. I've no idea what this is worth so will have to do a bit of research. If interested, I have an 80s E series candy apple red MIJ Precision that I've not even gigged yet but will be this weekend.
