1. It was me - there is a Delbert on the forum but it was myself who was looking for one. I've no idea what this is worth so will have to do a bit of research. If interested, I have an 80s E series candy apple red MIJ Precision that I've not even gigged yet but will be this weekend.
2. My 1212L never let me down regardless of the size of pub - all done wthout pa support and a guitarist with a 120w Peavey 5150. not once did it distort or even come close to being pushed in the 2 years I owned it.
3.
I love those trace pre amps. i miss my combo.
I'm giving it its first gig in my uncapable hands this weekend. Its easy to slip out the combo if anyone wants pics, I did it when i bought it to see if it needed a a clean but was spotless inside.
4. Why do you think I refer to it as Talkbs? What, you think that's been a spelling mistake all these times?
5.
would you take a trade on a shuker 51P...its no 1 signed by jon
ahhh, so it was you that bought it. I had been eyeing that up then suddenly it was gone. very nice bass that
6.
And last of all my home built fretless. Vox standard bass body, weighs a flippin tonne, 'routed' for a pup with a hammer and chisel. no name neck I ripped the frets out of and coated with ronseal diamond hard varnish. MM style pup, 'screwjack' bridge... It plays, its not awful, its not great. Body is too heavy and will get replaced eventually, as will the neck....
You mean that you're going to get rid of it? It sounds like the old classic: "I've had the same broom for 20 years and in that time its only had 3 shafts and 4 heads"
7. Check out completed listings on ebay to see how much stuff is going for. I got a 1153H in a custom flight case for £100. Round about the same for the 1153. I would say roughly £400-450 for the whole rig.
8. Unfortunately I have to play this at most wedding as we get asked for it a lot. Playing in a wedding band means that we have to play abba, Erasure, take that etc but nothing is as bad as having to play this pish. Thankfully we get to play something with balls after it like Town called malice or Chelsea Dagger. I can't listen to the song if someone is playing it and literally have to leave the room cos the guy singing sounds like someone strangling a bag of cats. Strange this is that I used to do Molly's Chamber and another one of theirs and they were actually quite good but don't know if its because the singer's started singing higher that he has all the appeal of someone singing whilst pished listening to music through headphones.
9. I'm still tying to find the charger for my digital camera so the only pics I have at the minute are the ones on the ebay auction.
10. I'm pretty confident that this is the same cab. I can't find my tape measure to check the size of the cut-out area - anyone seen it? http://www.ampaholics.co.uk/vox_sf_2x15.htm I'd never thought about porting the cab - I personally prefer the sound of a ported cab so might check out my options regarding this to see if I'll get better performance. I think I'll stick to modern drivers as I want to be able to give this some welly but its interesting to know that these old Goodmans speakers are still about - thought they'd all have been fried or decomposed by now. I've thought about something that I'll need to check as well - I've only ever fitted drivers to front loaded cabs before - never where they mount from behind the baffle - do I need to do anything special other than offer them onto the bolts and tighten them up? I can't believe how good condition the grill cloth is on this - it's nigh on perfect
11. Just got back home with it now - the proper name for it is the "Vox bass super foundation twin" - that's what the badge says anyway. Will be getting a couple of drivers for it in a couple of week's time after pay day. I'll order some speaker cable for its innards and a jack socket. I don't want to change it too much form its original condition so I may just put a bar handle on it at the back and a set of wheels on it. no pics for the next couple of days other than the ones that are on Ebay until I can find my camera charger
12. I've managed to buy myself an original 60s (I think) Vox T-100 2x15" cab on ebay. this is like the one that Macca used in the Beatles apparently, but is missing its drivers. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow night - the guy I'm getting it from used it as a stage prop when he played with the Bootleg Beatles on the telly. I've used WinISD for the first time and inputting the dimensions in - 2 Eminence Beta 15s look to be a suitable fit but now I'm not so sure. the dimensions are 116cm x 62cm x 45cm & its made with 3/4" ply. I don't want to spend any more than about £50-70 a speaker ideally - are there any better options? also, I've realised that there are no handles on this so I've got no idea how its meant to be transported so was thinking about installing some - how do i factor that into the calculation? My last bit of information I need, I'll have a look when I have more time, is how thick should the padding stuff be in the cab as there appears to be none. Here's the link to the Ebay auction http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT Don't know how realistic a price this is but if you look down to the bottom of page 4, there is one of these for sale for a lot more than I paid for mine http://www.harris-hire.co.uk/harris_forsale.pdf
13. If I am using my rig as a monitor then the only controls I'll normally adjust are the volume on the amp and maybe the tone on the bass from gig to gig. When there's no pa support, I'll only tweak a little bit. I couldn't be bothered to have to adjust everything every night - once my sound is there then I tend to leave it. Its handy if you have a good sound to begin with
14. as long as you can identify a Musicman's features then you're usually ok. Don't think I've ever seen a fake that could have passed as the real thing before. 3 main things are the truss rod adjuster which is a little wheel at the body end, 6 bolt neck join & the bridge has those 2 big bolts next to the G & E saddles. Older ones are different - the originals used 3 bolt neck joins, then the progressed to 4 then 6. The original bridge had mutes, then screws where the mutes would have been, then they went with the bridge that you see in the pic. Most, if not all fakes use a variation of the original bridge but without the mutes. The best place to check is on the EBMM forum - there's a link to a fantastic website that has catalogued all the changes over the years. Well worth a look if you're after a stingray
15. Nice - that one's really clean for its age. I've always wanted a TL5 for some strange reason
16. It may be the late hour but I read this as 'Saxophone Seedy Crack' Thought Pete Docherty had decided to delve into the world of jazz
17. I bought mine in the 90s from Musical Exchanges for £700 but I think they retailed for £1100 Mine was one of the more standard 5 string ones
18.
** have small baby but would like larger amp
That sounds like a serious case of GAS - I'd get help if i were you.
19.
What cab(s) were you running the shuttle through?
a Schroeder 1212L. I used this cab for both the GK 700RB II & the Shuttle so I was able to make a direct comparison
20. Yip - That's the one I want
21.
Every time i watch FNM vids i GAS for a Zon. Billy Gould has an incredible tone, even if he is looking more like Bill Oddie these days
Mike Patton looks like Robert Downey Jr in Ironman when they did Download
