between 4 years ago and 2 years ago I bought & sold over 50 basses including about 6 stingrays, Warwick Thumb, 3 Rick 4003s & a 4000. More or less everything I had every wanted to try to find 'my' bass. Ended with having the gold warmoth built. Until recently - sold my Shuttle & Schroeder 1212L and replaced it with a Trace V-type combo & Trace 2103H. also bought a 80s E series MIJ Precision. I'm not finished yet - I will buy more - I don't need more - I can't help myself - I've got a fever and the only cure is more cowbell

There was a walnut P bass made in the early 80s around the time of the Elite series - might actually have been part of it, I can't remember. as far as I remember, it was made of walnut Really nice - on my "would like but will probably never find/be able to afford" list

CIJ Sting P bass input jack & cup comes out...
Delberthot replied to Noisyjon's topic in Repairs and Technical
The electrosocket is exactly what I've used in both my Warmoth basses for the same reason - the original fitting is very fiddly and difficult to make it stay where it should. Hold the jack from the inside, screw the socket onto it until its tight, then drill 2 small holes for the screws, screw them in and its tighter than a tight thing. Because the screws enter the body at a different angle to each other, they won't come loose -
I've had a couple of GK heads - 700RB II & 800RB. Last Christmas I decided to selll the 700RB & buy a Shuttle 6.0 as it was light, small & had a tube in the pre-amp. It took a long time to get a good sound out of it and I did give it 8 months but in the end I missed the growly GK sound so I sold it - an bought a Trace Elliot V-type combo. My reasoning being that I liked having a valve pre-amp, the Trace Elliot sound & I feel that I belong to the bigger is better era where guys would have big stacks of 2 4x10"s or any combination that involves having to stand up on your toes to reach the controls. Not saying that its right but its right for me. Back to the question - it sounds like you like the GK2001 but it could be the cabs you were using that lacked the warmth & low end. They are capable of producing bowel stirring low end. You are highly unlikely to get a sound anywhere near the GK sound with the Shuttle cos I tried for 8 months and it wasn't there. The Shuttle will produce an overdriven tone if you fire the gain up far enough but it totally lked any grunt for me. also - the shuttle weighs about the same as a packet of cigarettes, the GK weighs the same as a small house. Unless you really need the power, the ability to drive 4 cabs or the built in distortion you'd be better off getting either a 700 or 1001 as they are a lot lighter in comparison.

18 years ago I had a Peavey TNT160 = 150w 15 years ago Trace 7210H = 150w on its own? 14 years ago Trace 7210H & 1048H = 200w through 6 10" speakers 11 years ago Gallien Krueger 800RB, Peavey 410TVX & Trace 1153 = 300w 8 years ago Hartke Ha5500 & Behringer Ba410 = 4 million watts if Behringer are to be believed - realistically = 360w 6 years ago ashdown Evo something or other & 2x BM115s = 575w (I think - but so wooly that only fish at the bottom of the ocean could hear it) 2 years ago Gallien 700RB II & Schroeder 1212L = 480w 9 months go Genz Shuttle 6.0 & same Schroeder = 600w Now - Trace V-type combo = 180w as a monitor or 250w with a 2103H for use with no pa support

I've tried searching but can't find anything. I have just bought a Trace cab for much cheapness but it needs recovered, who would be able to offer this service? Thinking along the lines of an upholsterer or similar If this has been covered - ho ho - before then I would appreciate a nudge in the right direction

If I hadn't already taken delivery of a V-type combo and just bought a 2103H tonight I would be all over this one. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Trace-Elliot-Bass-st...id=p3286.c0.m14 almost exactly what I used to use - I had a vinyl covered 7210H & 1048H setup

I was thinking the same but using one of those metal brushes that look like a big tooth brush. You're right not to use steel wool - that stuff goes everywhere.

I'm in the exactly the same boat right now so I'm looking forward to the replies. I have a Korg pedal tuner, Boss OC-2, a DI box and may get another pedal in the future like a flanger or similar. The main reason I would like a powered board if possible is simply to have everything permanently connected and neat & tidy. It's just a mass of cables at present
I heard the rest of the story about the strings on the bass. Apparently when Bernard died, his stingray was passed onto John Taylor from Duran Duran, including the original strings. During one Duran Duran recording session a guitar tech swapped all the strings on it and chucked them out as"they looked old"
Not only did he take then off, he apparently cut them to get them off.

I love precisions and more specifically, single coil ones although I like the 'normal' ones too. Conversely, jazz basses are the antichrist. I don't know why, it could be all the Jaco or Marcus Miller worship (especially on Talkbss), I just really hate the way they look.

The Sister Sledge story goes something like - Nile & Bernard went to their record company and asked who was the act that was performing the worst. They figured that they could make Sister Sledge sucessful. The sugarhill gang incident was particularly funny - as everyone knows, the sugarhill gang ripped off 'good times' without getting permission to use it in their song 'rappers delight'. NIle & Bernard threatened legal action so a couple of the Gang's entourage came round with guns and advised them against it. They didn't know that Chic's lawyers were friendly with the Mafia and the end result was the same 2 guys coming back with a suitcase full of money

I've just had the neck off and it ain't any clearer. The code on both neck and body is "PB 562". I can't see an actual date code. It has the large 'F' on the neck plate, the serial number is on the headstock and one rally weird thing is that the cap looks like nothing I've ever seen before - a slim plastic rectangle about 10mmx15mm. Anyway, we'll see what its like then when I gig it in a couple of weeks time
-
Yes, they normally give you a 2 prong one which is ideal if you plan a European tour but you willl need to buy a 3 pin plug for it to work. I've bought a couple of amps from them and that's all I had to change

I tried that website and it just gives me the generic info rather than a close date of manufacture.
Guitar Info Your guitar was made at the Fuji-gen Plant (for Fender Japan), Japan in the Year(s): 1984 - 1987 Fuji String Instrument Production Corporation Fuji String Instrument Production Corporation was opened in may 1960, they initially started manufacturing violins and quickly switched to classical guitar production. In 1962 electric guitar construction was started. Fujigen has a reputation for excellent quality and craftsmanship so the guitars they produce are highly regarded. They produce guitars via OEM for famous brands such as Ibanez, Epiphone, Yamaha and Fender (the import Special Interest Group nature model), G&L and others.
As a former multiple Musicman owner I think its pretty strange that there isn't a similar site to the one that you can access through the EB forums that gives all the information about the different models, changes etc given the popularity and simply the name 'Fender'.

How does the 4 balance compared to the 5? I loved the sound of my NT5 but the neckdive was too much
-
Glad I spotted this thread - I've just received a bass that I bought on Ebay and was a bit curious of the colour. It looks like mine is a '57 RI E series in CAR but my one has the rosewood fretboard. I'm not sure if you can date the pots like on the US models but when I'm changing the strings I'll probably whip the neck off and check the date on it - the previous owner reckoned 1985. If I like it I could be back in touch to see about getting the matching maple one :brow:

I think there was only the 1524 2x15" and 1084 (H) 8x10" cabs that were 4 ohms. There could be anomolies and one offs or others that i've never seen before Somewhere is a 1153 300w 4 ohm cab that used to be mine but I changed the driver in it.
