1. I'm still tying to find the charger for my digital camera so the only pics I have at the minute are the ones on the ebay auction.
2. I'm pretty confident that this is the same cab. I can't find my tape measure to check the size of the cut-out area - anyone seen it? http://www.ampaholics.co.uk/vox_sf_2x15.htm I'd never thought about porting the cab - I personally prefer the sound of a ported cab so might check out my options regarding this to see if I'll get better performance. I think I'll stick to modern drivers as I want to be able to give this some welly but its interesting to know that these old Goodmans speakers are still about - thought they'd all have been fried or decomposed by now. I've thought about something that I'll need to check as well - I've only ever fitted drivers to front loaded cabs before - never where they mount from behind the baffle - do I need to do anything special other than offer them onto the bolts and tighten them up? I can't believe how good condition the grill cloth is on this - it's nigh on perfect
3. Just got back home with it now - the proper name for it is the "Vox bass super foundation twin" - that's what the badge says anyway. Will be getting a couple of drivers for it in a couple of week's time after pay day. I'll order some speaker cable for its innards and a jack socket. I don't want to change it too much form its original condition so I may just put a bar handle on it at the back and a set of wheels on it. no pics for the next couple of days other than the ones that are on Ebay until I can find my camera charger
4. I've managed to buy myself an original 60s (I think) Vox T-100 2x15" cab on ebay. this is like the one that Macca used in the Beatles apparently, but is missing its drivers. I'm going to pick it up tomorrow night - the guy I'm getting it from used it as a stage prop when he played with the Bootleg Beatles on the telly. I've used WinISD for the first time and inputting the dimensions in - 2 Eminence Beta 15s look to be a suitable fit but now I'm not so sure. the dimensions are 116cm x 62cm x 45cm & its made with 3/4" ply. I don't want to spend any more than about £50-70 a speaker ideally - are there any better options? also, I've realised that there are no handles on this so I've got no idea how its meant to be transported so was thinking about installing some - how do i factor that into the calculation? My last bit of information I need, I'll have a look when I have more time, is how thick should the padding stuff be in the cab as there appears to be none. Here's the link to the Ebay auction http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT Don't know how realistic a price this is but if you look down to the bottom of page 4, there is one of these for sale for a lot more than I paid for mine http://www.harris-hire.co.uk/harris_forsale.pdf
5. If I am using my rig as a monitor then the only controls I'll normally adjust are the volume on the amp and maybe the tone on the bass from gig to gig. When there's no pa support, I'll only tweak a little bit. I couldn't be bothered to have to adjust everything every night - once my sound is there then I tend to leave it. Its handy if you have a good sound to begin with
6. That one's sold apparently - I've already asked
7. as long as you can identify a Musicman's features then you're usually ok. Don't think I've ever seen a fake that could have passed as the real thing before. 3 main things are the truss rod adjuster which is a little wheel at the body end, 6 bolt neck join & the bridge has those 2 big bolts next to the G & E saddles. Older ones are different - the originals used 3 bolt neck joins, then the progressed to 4 then 6. The original bridge had mutes, then screws where the mutes would have been, then they went with the bridge that you see in the pic. Most, if not all fakes use a variation of the original bridge but without the mutes. The best place to check is on the EBMM forum - there's a link to a fantastic website that has catalogued all the changes over the years. Well worth a look if you're after a stingray
8. Nice - that one's really clean for its age. I've always wanted a TL5 for some strange reason
9. It may be the late hour but I read this as 'Saxophone Seedy Crack' Thought Pete Docherty had decided to delve into the world of jazz
10. I bought mine in the 90s from Musical Exchanges for £700 but I think they retailed for £1100 Mine was one of the more standard 5 string ones
11.
** have small baby but would like larger amp
That sounds like a serious case of GAS - I'd get help if i were you.
12. Wash your car, sir?
13.
What cab(s) were you running the shuttle through?
a Schroeder 1212L. I used this cab for both the GK 700RB II & the Shuttle so I was able to make a direct comparison
14. Yip - That's the one I want
15.
Every time i watch FNM vids i GAS for a Zon. Billy Gould has an incredible tone, even if he is looking more like Bill Oddie these days
Mike Patton looks like Robert Downey Jr in Ironman when they did Download
16. Dammit -tell me now You've found them all in John Entwistle's loft havent you?
17. a Zon Sonus 8 string is still on my list Just been listening to Faith No More from this year's download and I need a Zon like Billy Gould's - what a sound. It won't fit in with the sound of the wedding band but f@@k it
18. between 4 years ago and 2 years ago I bought & sold over 50 basses including about 6 stingrays, Warwick Thumb, 3 Rick 4003s & a 4000. More or less everything I had every wanted to try to find 'my' bass. Ended with having the gold warmoth built. Until recently - sold my Shuttle & Schroeder 1212L and replaced it with a Trace V-type combo & Trace 2103H. also bought a 80s E series MIJ Precision. I'm not finished yet - I will buy more - I don't need more - I can't help myself - I've got a fever and the only cure is more cowbell
19. There was a walnut P bass made in the early 80s around the time of the Elite series - might actually have been part of it, I can't remember. as far as I remember, it was made of walnut Really nice - on my "would like but will probably never find/be able to afford" list
20. The electrosocket is exactly what I've used in both my Warmoth basses for the same reason - the original fitting is very fiddly and difficult to make it stay where it should. Hold the jack from the inside, screw the socket onto it until its tight, then drill 2 small holes for the screws, screw them in and its tighter than a tight thing. Because the screws enter the body at a different angle to each other, they won't come loose
21. I've had a couple of GK heads - 700RB II & 800RB. Last Christmas I decided to selll the 700RB & buy a Shuttle 6.0 as it was light, small & had a tube in the pre-amp. It took a long time to get a good sound out of it and I did give it 8 months but in the end I missed the growly GK sound so I sold it - an bought a Trace Elliot V-type combo. My reasoning being that I liked having a valve pre-amp, the Trace Elliot sound & I feel that I belong to the bigger is better era where guys would have big stacks of 2 4x10"s or any combination that involves having to stand up on your toes to reach the controls. Not saying that its right but its right for me. Back to the question - it sounds like you like the GK2001 but it could be the cabs you were using that lacked the warmth & low end. They are capable of producing bowel stirring low end. You are highly unlikely to get a sound anywhere near the GK sound with the Shuttle cos I tried for 8 months and it wasn't there. The Shuttle will produce an overdriven tone if you fire the gain up far enough but it totally lked any grunt for me. also - the shuttle weighs about the same as a packet of cigarettes, the GK weighs the same as a small house. Unless you really need the power, the ability to drive 4 cabs or the built in distortion you'd be better off getting either a 700 or 1001 as they are a lot lighter in comparison.
22. My latest bargain: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWNX:IT Brand new speakers in it & a flight case with it - needs a bit of a clean up, some of the carpet covering replaced, new tuning port ring & a knob for the horn control
23. It might as well be England for you did I menton that I'm going to be going to Cromarty at the end of October?
24. 18 years ago I had a Peavey TNT160 = 150w 15 years ago Trace 7210H = 150w on its own? 14 years ago Trace 7210H & 1048H = 200w through 6 10" speakers 11 years ago Gallien Krueger 800RB, Peavey 410TVX & Trace 1153 = 300w 8 years ago Hartke Ha5500 & Behringer Ba410 = 4 million watts if Behringer are to be believed - realistically = 360w 6 years ago ashdown Evo something or other & 2x BM115s = 575w (I think - but so wooly that only fish at the bottom of the ocean could hear it) 2 years ago Gallien 700RB II & Schroeder 1212L = 480w 9 months go Genz Shuttle 6.0 & same Schroeder = 600w Now - Trace V-type combo = 180w as a monitor or 250w with a 2103H for use with no pa support
