The Schroeder 1212r/1212l has one speaker angled away from the cab, i stand mine on it's side as in the photo above and it gives an even spread of sound all over the stage and plenty out front. I'm looking into getting a horizontal amp stand to raise it a bit if i need to: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/GIRAFFE-CLICK-SYSTEM...%3A1|240%3A1318
Those stands are the dogs sloblock. I've had one for a few years now. they'll take almost anything. I used to use an Ashdown ABM115 big beast of a thing as a monitor angled up at me on mine. I mainly just put the Schroeder on it but if space is tight I'll sit it horizontal and but my rack on top of it. really light, fold completely flat and tough as you like. As far as carrying cabs goes- The recessed, non moving ones (like the ones Schroeder uses) are more user friendly for carrying one handed rather than the hinged ones that Trace used. You don't say where you are from - you may be surprised to find a lightweight cab owner near you that may let you try.
2.
*WARNING* It was a cold day so you might need safety goggles before watching.
Boingoingoingoingoingoing :brow: She was one of my first crushes as a spotty teenager Anyway, back to the thread
3. Pete's Red Cortina? Prince's Red Corvette Perth Refuse Centre? I could go on...
4.
Back in the day, when they were installed below, they were referred to as the 'tugbar'.
Oooooohhhhhhhh matron Sorry I couldn't resist that
5. Something along the lines of mine? I have the building of it over in the build section (funnily enough) if you want to have a look at one being built
6. I sold my nearly mint vinyl 1153 with replacement Celestion 300w 4ohm driver and vinyl cover for about £200 a couple of years ago. You'll find out loads about lightweight cabs here. my tuppence worth is that I now run a single Schroeder 1212L which would easily replace your 2 cabs and come in at around your budget
7. broadsword calling danny boy - come in danny boy
8. Wait a minute - are both pickups the same size? Normally longer one for the bridge but then again they probably wouldn't fit in the routes very well if they were the wrong ones
9. Again, Kent's been making these for years so I would've assumed that they would align properly. Sorry, I'm not much help am I?
10. The rule I follow after receiving advice from a few manufacturers ( I'm sure Sterling Ball was one of them) is that if it is only going to be off for a few days then don't bother - if off for weeks then loosten it off.
11. cheers That's fantastic stuff. exactly what i was looking for
12. Its utterly amazing that they can offer all that for such a low price. Either that or it is utterly crap
13. How the hell does a 2 year old bass get so badly scratched? Maybe more understandable if it was a 1986 but 2006?
14. If has't been sold by the weekend then I will have to fire it on to ebay. Bit short of cash just now so it needs to go but will be offered on Ebay at a higher cost. I'm effectively charging friend's rate for it on here. I could split it if anyone's interested in buying any of the parts separately but the general rule is that it works out cheaper to buy the whole lot together. If anyone is interested in buying any of the parts then I will hold your request until the weekend - if no one has bought the entire bass by then I will let you buy the part that you asked for. If there is enough interest I will list prices for each part. I can't really go any lower than £500 & £10 postage for mainland UK. This includes all the parts listed previously
15. My gold Warmoth has the SD quarter pounder SCPB pickup installed. Now that's a spicy meatball Very powerful and clear. Will distort your preamp if you have your bass volume up full and the pickup too close to the strings. Wind it down a bit and it becomes a different animal. Very clear right across the board. the gold one has different woods to what you're using so will sound different. My Blonde Warmoth has a swamp ash body and maple neck but a Lollar vintage SCPB pickup - very old school, thicker, glowlier tone much more akin to the original
16. As far as i know they are direct replacements for Fenders. I have them on both my Wamoths. I don't think there would be as much of a market for them if they had different string spacing than standard.
17. I have a plain maple single screw one on my latest Warmoth below the strings purely to make it look more authentic. It never gets used
18. After having a butchers at my trusty fender Bass book it would appear that they moved from under to over during 74. Looks like around 1981-2 until they were gone except for certain reissues. If anyone's interested they only had one screw in the center until 1957 when they changed to a 2 screw plastic rest as opposed to the original wooden one
19. can anyone recommend software that does the same as a bass trainer does? ie enable you to loop a section of a song that you're trying to learn and also change the key without changing the tempo. I've thought about getting one of the Tascam style ones but if I have a song to learn then the music is generally on my PC anyway. the facility to burn the song in the new key would be fantastic as well but does such a beast exist?
20. Whenever it happened it is clearly stable now otherwise it would be in a dumpster by now
21. For me it has a lot to do with disliking active electronics and wanting something basic. I've been through the whole 5, 6, 8, 12 string, fretless thing with more controls than the Hubble space telescope and wanted to go for something that sounds good without all the gubbins attached. This is why I went down the route of getting the Warmoth basses. What i got were 2 basses First bass looks like one of the early precisions but is made with different woods to sound the way I wanted the bass to sound. The second one is identical to a 1957 pre-facelift precision, right down to the paper in oil cap. I'm happy as i have something that I like that is simple to operate and that I don't have to put a lot of work into making it sound good. In fact, if it didn't leave holes I would remove the controls completely on both of them. That, to me, is one of the reasons that people go for older instruments. Its the original, simple design. Used in so many recordings to great effect. There will always be a place for these instuments as reliable workhorse basses. One bass player's collection that i have always admired is Bob Daisley's. He has some cracking old Fenders.
22.
Like a great swing groove, its indefinable but, when you find it, its the BEST feeling. Its the 'magic' bit, the bit you can't buy, the bit that all the lessons you can every have and all the gear you can ever acquire won't make happen. Its the thing that some people have naturally, on the day they are born, and others spend their life making futile efforts trying to find. Its why Jeff Berlin isn't Aston 'Family Man' Barrett. Its why Steve Bailey isn't Steve Swallow. Its why Neils Henning Orsted Pederson isn't Ray Brown. Its soul. Its groove. Its the point where man and machine are operating in perfect harmony. Its why Michael Brecker and Bob Berg aren't Stan Getz and Paul Desmond. Its why Simon PHillips isn't John Bonham. Its why most people don't like jazz and why most jazz doesn't move most people. Its why Louis Armstrong is greater than Wynton Marsalis and why Slash is better than Yngwie J. Malmsteen. As Louis Armstrong once said 'if you have to ask..., you'll never know'
I'm sorry if I'm reading this wrongly but are you saying that if you don't like jazz then you don't have it? Like somone once said "Jazz isn't dead, it just smells funny"
23. Here's the bit from the website "7600000 ("76" in bold) = 1976-1977"
24. If you had the bass as well you could take loads of pictures showing the refinish being done :brow:
25. Hmmm. think I'll get my Bass Gremlin out for the next gig. Not used it in a while
