I recently bought a Radial Tonebone Bassbone and am absolutely blown away by how good it is - 2 channel, 3 band EQ, HPF, effects loop with blend control, boost/mute facility and a fantastic DI

Massive outdoor Festivals? don't get it
Delberthot replied to PaulWarning's topic in General Discussion
I'd rather stuff wasps up my bum than go to an outdoor festival I like a calm, relaxed atmosphere so generally go for the seated part of a concert. The idea of rolling around a muddy field completely out of my gourd never appealed to me. I always remember going to see Madness a few years ago, again in the seated bit. At one point my wife turned to me and asked why they were throwing pints of lager up in the air at the standing section. I pointed out that a pint was about £7 so have another guess what it was 😁 -
I have decided to sell my Geddy Lee Jazz bass. I had put this up for sale a few months ago but ended up really enjoying it so started using it but I've found something else I like now ( you know how it is 😀 ) This is one of the Limited Edition Geddy Lee Jazz basses made between 1998 and 2004 before they became the artist series. the reason that the title shows 1998 and 2003 is because the neck plate dates the bass to 1998 (woohoo) but the stamp on the neck is dated 2003 ( Eh?) so in traditional Fender tradition the carpet don't match the drapes as it were. This one also apparently has real blocks as opposed to painted ones of the later models but without dissecting the neck it would be impossible to know for sure. Condition wise for a 21 or 16 year old bass it's looking pretty good. There are some dings and dongs on the body, a few wee marks on the binding on the neck that can't really be felt when playing and I'm not entirely sure what happened to the underside of the headstock as it's a bit rough but you can't see it when you play (unless you play with it over your head for some reason or you are a lefty and prefer righty instruments. The worst ding is on the body just below the bridge pickup and there are a few lighter ones elsewhere but nothing through to the wood. When I got it, it had a scratchy volume control and being terrible at soldering I bought a solderless prewired harness for it which uses wee screws to secure the pickup and earth wires (there are lots of earth wires as it has the brass plates under the pickups which are also earthed) This harness has split shafts and the original had solid shafts so I bought new knobs for it. The bad new, if it bothers you, is that my wife "tidied away" the original harness and knobs so they're probably in a landfill somewhere being circled by gulls, underneath a Mr Sparkle soap box. Anyway, the neck is the fantastic slim Geddy neck that you want (or you wouldn't be looking at this ad would you?), it also has the obligatory and no longer available Badass II bridge and the pickups are the original cloth wired jobbies. Sound wise, it does the great Geddy punchy bark but don't think that you're stuck playing YYZ or Roll the Bones all night, it's just a great Jazz bass in its own right. I've been using it with my wedding/function band and it sounds incredible. I don't have a bag for this but I have a lot of packaging thanks to a splurge at Thomann & BAX so have proper bass boxes and those wee air pillow paddy things to keep it secure in transit. Alternatively I can also meet up within reason or the buyer is welcome to come and collect it. Postage will be around £35 but I can get a proper quote for anyone interested. The weight is a reasonable 9.6lbs or 4.35kgs

Bought brand new in April 2016, this has been my main bass for the past 3 years. The reason I bought it was that I had been suffering from a dodgy shoulder and my Stingray 5 with Ceramic pickup was quite heavy so decided to change to the Sterling which shares the same ceramic pickup and electronics as the SR5 had. It's been a fantastic bass and has performed as you would expect a top US made bass to perform. Condition wise, this bass is in almost perfect condition. There are absolutely no chips or such like on the bass. The only marks I can find are scratches on the scratchplate (which means it's doing its job), a very light scratch on the body that can only be seen in the right light and a very small, and I mean tiny indentation on the back of the body. There might be other marks but they will be so small that I could not see them while looking at the bass. I have had Hipshot Ultralites fitted to this bass but the original Musicman tuners have been fitted back on. There will be 1 hole under each tuner should you take them off which may or may not come in handy if you want to fit a set yourself This bass also comes with it's Music Man branded hard case which, like the bass is in near perfect condition due to not having been taken out of the house since I bought it in April 2016. Also included is all of the case candy that came with the bass including EBMM string wipes and stickers in their original sealed packages plus the all important key for the case which is usually the first thing that gets lost. I have tried to take as many pictures as I can to capture the condition of the bass. It really is in almost new condition as I have always looked after my equipment and it has never been anywhere near the inside of a band van or truck, always transported by myself in my car and is the last thing to come out at a gig and first to get packed away. I'm not looking for any trades and am happy to post, meet up within reason or have the new buyer collect the bass. Postage will be around the £35 mark but I can get quotes for any interested buyers. I have lots of packaging thanks to a shopping spree at Thomann. The weight is coming in at a shoulder friendly 8.8lbs or 3.99kgs. I'm not in any hurry to sell and am open to reasonable offers.

Hmmmm....Shell Pink Jazz, rosewood neck and headstock...?
Delberthot replied to lou24d53's topic in Bass Guitars
It's not a matching headstock, it's a neck made entirely from rosewood but I have to agree that it does look odd. I'd much prefer it with an all maple neck but then maybe that's why they've gone all rosewood cos there's a million all maple necked Fenders out there -
I really wanted to like the Rickenbacker that I bought at the tail end of last year. They look amazing but after replacing the pickup cover with a bezel, fitting Hipshot Ultralites to help balance it better and so on I had to admit that it was a piece of stinky poo and got shot of it.

Are Gibson classifieds going to be banned?
Delberthot replied to prowla's topic in General Discussion
Didn't sales of Les Pauls soar after Appetite for Destruction was released despite the fact that Slash used copies of Les Pauls complete with Gibson Logo'd headstocks? I don't think that Slash would have been able to afford the real thing at the time so surely it was good publicity for the Gibson brand despite not actually being a Gibson. Later on they did release a Gibson version of his copy which is, again, great for Gibson, despite them actually making a replica of a replica -
I've been tempted to try Elixirs but am still unsure. I generally get 8 gigs out of a set of D'addario EXLs - that's wedding/function length gigs. Strings Direct sell my current EXL165 choice at £22.99 and the equivalent Elixir strings are £42.99 so I would need to be getting 15 gigs from the Elixirs to break even as it were so I would be disappointed if they started going dull after 12. I don't use a plectrum, I don't really sweat and I make sure that my hands are always clean so should I expect more than this?

I always thought it was a reference to gay sex since the last line is "give me every inch of your love"
-
It's a guitar tuner rather than a bass one but I thought that it would still have been a licenced tuner at that price. The bass tuners start at £12 for the licenced ones. I've bought from this seller before and everything was as per the listing

Great bass lines you’ve forgotten about.

Another is Distant Sun by Crowded House. Simple but very melodic -

One I've recently rediscovered is Lovely Day by Bill Withers. One of those songs that instantly lift your mood and also a great bass line -
I love the Mustangs but always think that P & J pickups look out of proportion on such a small bass, as did those ones with the big mudbucker

SBL looking for new Director of Operations.

I have the contents of my cupboard alphabetised from Actimel all the way to zucchini although problems arise when I'm faced with whether to put the Pot Noodles under P or N. I still have no idea what a key performance indicator is -
I've had a couple of these including the older one that could be angled back and I remain dubious if they actually do anything or if they're just for psychological purposes to make you feel better about the big cab blowing air at the back of your knees

I use a Hercules stand for mine - one of the ones that grab the neck as you place it on

I'm with chris_b on this. I generally change my setup to suit the band I am playing with at the time. My last band was a loudish rock band so I had a Hartke LH1000 with Laney NX410 & NX115 cabs. The latest incarnation of my rig with the wedding band is a Radial Bassbone which also serves as my DI into a QSC K12.2 for my on stage sound. My advice would be to keep some money aside (if you can) and decide once you're in a band what the best rig for your circumstances would be - circumstances being type of band, pa or not, sizes of venue etc BTW a Ray34 is a hell of a bass to be learning on and to be honest I would happily gig that bass myself. Don't think that because it's not the full fat US version that it isn't a good bass

I decided to give the JB75 a try and got it yesterday. Neck was obviously a bit more clubby than the Geddy but I must have got one of the lighter ones. I can't see any joins so I reckon it's a 1 piece body as well. I weighed it and it came in at 9.8lbs, I then weighed my Geddy with much slimmer neck and Ultralites and guess what? 9.8lbs Someone mentioned the pickups not being able to be screwed down and I've found that as well but they are low enough not to cause any issue, although they make the bass appear louder than the Geddy because of their height. Worse case scenario I have a set of Fender pickups that I can fit. I bought it as a backup to the Geddy but I think I am going to gig it this weekend

I found screws that were about 30mm but with a head small enough to fit inside the schaller strap pins and I put superglue on the threads before I screw them in. I've never had one move yet

Been using D'addario EXL165 nickels for a few years now but have just bought myself a set of Prosteels to try for a change

The first blurry picture gives the impression that there are frets but I think the second one shows that it is a lined fretless, I think 🤔
