Best P pickups I've ever used were Lollars in both single coil '51 and split varieties and if I ever got myself another precision then It'd be the only choice for me to get another one

After last night's gig I was looking for a DI & eq pedal that had a midrange control and by sheer chance spotted a Radial Bassbone Tonebone for £151 being sold by Amazon. It was one of those anomalies that Amazon have in their pricing from time to time so I couldn't say no to that - should be here next week Went back in this morning and they're back up to £299

Is trying a bass with a thinner neck at a gig an option? Just in case you have the work done to your basses and they still give you grief

Where did we all start this journey from?
Delberthot replied to NancyJohnson's topic in General Discussion
I started accidentally in 1987 as me and my best mate at the time were going to enter a talent contest miming to The Springstein song Dancing in the Dark and another mate suggested that I borrow his acoustic to complete the look. I was really into Queen back then so tried to play bits just using open strings and found that I could pick up bits and pieces so for my 12th birthday was given a junior sized acoustic but realised that I loved the look of John Deacon's Red Precision that he used in the One Vision video. That Christmas I was given the choice of an electric guitar or bass. Everyone wanted me to get the guitar but me being incredibly stubborn decided to get the bass. Similar to one of the basses above, it was a Marlin Slammer, and for all intents and purposes was the double of said Precision used by John Deacon. £99 out of the Littlewoods catalogue. I had to get an amp so having completely no idea stumbled into my local music shop which would become my home for the next 10 years and my dad bought me a Squier 15w guitar amp with the finishing touch being a yellow curly cable like Brian May's This served me well until I saw the picture of John Deacon's maple fretless on the gatefold sleeve of Live Killers and took a large rough file to the fretboard. Needless to say the bass ended up in the skip a couple of months later to be replaced by a fantastic second hand Riverhead Jupiter for the princely sum of £199 in Sound Control in Glasgow -
Slap Happy Chappy? No, Cos I'm Crappy :(
Delberthot replied to DoubleOhStephan's topic in General Discussion
Save the slap for the Youtube videos 😅 Seriously though, I've never had any really reason to use it yet according to Youtube, everything has to and indeed must be slapped. I'm with Ped on this. A wee slap or pop here and there can add something new to a song but continuous slap sounds like someone pushing a drum kit down a flight of stairs -
At least it's in the UK so you won't get stung with import tacks

I've been playing in wedding bands since 1995. I've only just added in a Behringer BDI21 as I stopped using my Wireless which had its own DI out. I've gone back to a passive Jazz bass with two volume controls so started using my Korg DT10 to both mute the signal and tune. My Behringer BEQ700 is there to add some mids as I play with both volumes up full. I've been on the effects merry-go-round for years and eventually go back to using nothing. What I have is out of necessity rather than buying things for the sake of it. Start out using one effect/processor at a time. If you think that you need to add anything after this point then add another one. If you buy a whole pile of effects then you'll either go nuts trying to get them all working at the same time or sell them on again without using them.

Paul Raneri's metallic blue bass - anyone know
Delberthot replied to cattytown's topic in Bass Guitars
At least it shouldn't suffer from neck dive with about 3 feet of the body behind the bridge -
Mods: Could Bass For Sale threads be separated into 4 and 5+ strings?
Delberthot replied to Bass Culture's topic in Site News
Anything with "tort" shouldn't be allowed to be listed at all but instead burnt in some sort of ceremonial ceremony of some description. Seriously though, without keyboard spamming, you should use as many words as you can in the title. This encourages more people to look at the listing as they know exactly what it is. Brand, model, year (if possible), colour, number of strings, country of origin and fretted/fretless should be in the title -
I've only ever favoured 1 bass at a time so at the moment I am making sure that I have bonded properly with my Geddy Jazz before putting my Sterling up for sale. At one point years ago I owned 7 basses at one time but I will only ever play 1 at a gig so the other 6 were sold Maybe something to do with the 140 odd basses I've owned over the years making it easier to sell them every time

There's a bit in the Proclaimer's "500 Miles" where there is a stop for 2 bars before we go into the final choruses so I use it to add in whatever tunes I've been listening to or just for the hell of it. They range from Popeye to Enter Sandman but last night I decided to play a section of the big run on the Chili's "Johnny Kick a Hole in the Sky" The look on our singer's face was priceless. I don't think she knew what to make of it so I'll be having a think about next week's musical interlude. There was another band I used to dep with and part of a medley they did was Sex Machine by James Brown. One night the drummer came in with a slightly different pattern to normal so I ended up playing What is Hip

A few years ago I received a 1979 Rickenbacker 4000 in a gig bag with a burst zip and a couple of bits of brown tape holding it in

My first thought when I saw the title was that this was going to be thread about this fellow

I always use channel B set at Hi-z whether direct in or via my BDI21 with both musicman and jazz basses

It was his listing that gave me an idea to check out online perspex companies. I liked the idea of the using the pickup screws to secure it so I have bought some black 5mm thick perspex cut to size and will drill the holes myself. I've bought a few pieces just in case I make a mess of it

After gigging this weekend I am finding that I am having trouble finding the best place to put my thumb when I am playing. On the Sterling, the pickup is right where I was to play but on the Jazz I want to be somewhere between the pickups. I had thought about a thumb rest of some kind but am thinking that a ramp might be the solution. Does anyone know where I could source one or have one made? It's a black Geddy Jazz and I'm not too bothered whether or not it follows the radius of the fretboard but would prefer it to be either black or clear. I understand that they can be home made but am completely hopeless when it comes to making anything

You Keep on Moving is still one of my favourite Purple tracks

check out some of the really supercheap pickups on Ebay from China etc. Most of the jazz ones I've seen have been ceramic so there's a chance they'll have P ones as well

That's everyone at the moment surely? 😀 There are some things that you are practically guaranteed: Hofner Violin bass - always played with a plectrum Fretless - weird chordy noise involving lots of harmonics rather than playing an actual tune or making a sound that the average bass player would make at a gig Fender Videos - Really crooked right hand wrist action Rickenbacker - either muffled and indistinct to sound like McCartney or a ton of overdrive and played with a plectrum to sound like Geddy, Chrirs Squire or Lemmy 99% percent of the rest - slap fest that sounds like someone pushing a drum kit down a flight of stairs. These are easy to spot as the thumbnail for the video has the player with his thumb hovering over the end of the fretboard and I know to steer clear Once you know this and accept this then you've less of a chance of getting annoyed.

QSC K12.2 DI Output Level high enough for passive bass?
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've been using channel B on the HI-Z setting. Channel C outputs at line level but there's no mention of whether it is balanced or not. I'm guessing that since it is a PA speaker then there wouldn't be a balanced output on it. I have decided to plug into my old Korg DT10 which also saves me turning down 2 volumes on the bass to tune silently between songs and it has a buffer built in. This then goes into my passive Art Z-Direct box with the balanced output going to the mixer. I might dig my BDI21 out for next week but I'll just use the DI this weekend -
QSC K12.2 DI Output Level high enough for passive bass?
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in Repairs and Technical
The block diagram on the instruction manual makes no reference to a buffer so I'm guessing that what goes in will be at exactly the same level coming back out again. DI time methinks 🤔 -
QSC K12.2 DI Output Level high enough for passive bass?
Delberthot replied to Delberthot's topic in Repairs and Technical
I read that as well but it doesn't state if it has a buffer like plugging into a tuner before going into the amp or if the signal is literally split between the amp and what goes to the through connector. I'd ideally like to get away from using anything else as I've already ditched my outboard preamp and like to keep it as simple as possible by plugging my bass directly into the amp -
I have decided to ditch the wireless and plug straight into my QSC K12.2. The receiver I was using had a DI output to take my signal to the desk but I was thinking about using the DI through on Channel B which according to QSC is an unaffected signal but doesn't state if there is any buffering going on. I would like to find out if I plug my Geddy Jazz directly into channel B and send a DI from the loop-through to the desk, will the output be great enough or do I need to get myself an active DI box? I can't find any specs online which say if there's anything going on or not to buffer the signal

My first gig at 17 was in a big band. I was the youngest by about 40 years but they were the guys who had been there at the time so to speak and had some amazing stories. It's a very different gig to playing in rock bands & doing weddings. Much more relaxed and usually a great laugh. The band leader was always telling me to turn down but the sax players would always turn round to me and tell me to turn back up I was in that band for a couple of years and learnt a great deal in that time.
